  1. There was a steady flow of customers lining up at this cart, so that was reason enough for me to try it out. I also noticed they had a doner kebab set up inside the cart, which is usually my reasoning to check out these carts by the hundreds. Upon closer inspection, I did notice a big stack of the lamb shavings were sitting on a tray just below the doner kebab to prevent overcharring of the meat. I was slightly hesitant to get the lamb since it was just sitting there, so I opted for Chicken over Rice ($5.00). A couple scoops of yellow rice, some fresh chopped lettuce, a couple slices of tomato, chicken thrown on top, and the usual white sauce and hot sauce. Portions and appearances did not look the most grandeur. Most could come to expect their standard looking halal cart.

But when I took my first bite, my first immediate impression was that this halal cart was pretty darn good. The first thing that hit me was the hot sauce which had some good heat. Nothing unbearable, but I guess I got used to the typical not too spicy, hot sauce that most generic halal carts serve. Their white sauce on the other hand, was pretty standard. The tandoori-style orange-colored chicken was tender, flavorful and I only had good things to say about it. But what really shined was the yellow rice which I'd venture to say was buttery and full of flavor from the cardamom. Mmmm, it was very good and I found myself enjoying every bite of it until the very last one.

So Times Halal Cart: Keep on doing what you're doing!! You're a solid cart and you can expect me as a return visitor. Just keep the lamb on the doner kebab until ready to be thrown on the grill and not sitting on the grease tray.

  2. OKAY so I might be a bit late in this review, actually over 2 years late 🙂
But back when I worked around times-sq area, I used to frequent this place. Now they are no Halal Guys or Uncle Gussy's, but they good for $5.
The best part of their meat (read chicken) is that its flavorful on its own, unlike many other places that relie on their sauces. All in all its a good option give the price.
Word of caution, there is one guy who can be a bit rude at times, but you can overlook that.
