So growing up, I was obsessed with Maggie Moo's. Seriously.. I mean OBSESSED. It was super close to my middle school best friend's house–that was our spot! Of course, I didn't trust my 12 year old opinion, and didn't even bother giving it another chance in years.
Ridgewood also has Ben & Jerry's, which is more conveniently located downtown and much cuter. In my eyes, I didn't even see a reason to bother going to Maggie Moo's. Today my boyfriend and I had a later night than usual in Ridgewood, and Ben & Jerry's closed 30 minutes before Maggie Moo's. So we pretty much felt forced to go… Obviously, we NEEDED ice cream to end our night 😉
Apparently my 12 year old self was right; we both LOOOOVED it. Usually when I order ice cream somewhere it's pretty good, but I always feel guilty and wish I didn't eat so much ice cream. I actually wished I ordered MORE at Maggie Moo's. My boyfriend and I shared a cake batter cookie dough fudge cup— it was a perfect soft, semi-melty texture. I was dying for more, but felt bad for getting another ice cream from the employees with just 1 minute to close.
If you haven't been to Maggie Moo's before, it's definitely a unique experience. It's all about the toppings here! You order a base ice cream, they'll lay it out on a prepping board and actually fold in your toppings to the ice cream rather than just throw them on top. I seriously love this because it's as if you're able to create your own ice cream flavor! They also have a list of popular ice cream/topping combos as examples– so don't fret, you don't have to think too hard if you don't want to.
The shop is located in a strip mall in Ridgewood. You won't have to worry about parking. Although the exterior isn't the cutest, the shop isn't bad.
I'm torn between a 4 and 5 star, but I'll wait until I give it another try to truly know if it deserves a 5.
I was SO pleasantly impressed when I decided to eat ice cream here the other day. My girlfriend and I generally go to friendlys or Ben and jerrys after we eat in ridgewood but we decided to give Maggie moos a try for a change. Boy were we wonderfully surprised.
When we first walked in we kind of were turned off by the way the ice cream looked- kind of plain with nothing in it- but we then realized you had to pick some toppings to mix in. So we picked a cookie dough, fudge, Oreo combo.
That first bite, wow. I was expecting a Baskin Robinesque, chain tasting, unoriginal ice cream; I was thankfully very wrong. It was the perfect amount of creamy and hard, tasted very homemade and spectacular, and had large, delicious chunks of cookie dough!
I really recommend coming here for a good scoop with delicious toppings on any day!

If you're in town, you gotta give it a try!!
Prefer Ben and Jerry's/Van Dycks a lot more. Service was OK.
Though take it from someone who —doesn't— like coldstone
