  1. Lapin and I came to this build-your-own-burger place for his birthday.  We ordered the buffalo tater tots ($9) were tasty but definitely overpriced. Lapin ordered the regular beef burger with bacon, cheese, and couple other fixings. He said the burger was just average and it was a bit watery and cold in the middle. The bacon wasn't strips but in crumbles and every bite he took, his beloved bacon fell everywhere. I ordered the grilled chicken breast with a couple of fixings and sauce ($1.50). The chicken was seasoned nicely but it was a bit dry. I feel that the sauces should have came with the burgers since they were a bit dry. Side note, the sodas are $3 and come with free refills. The staff at this restaurant though was truly on point and very nice and attentive even with a new trainee on staff.

  2. Prepare yourself for one of the most unique, delicious burgers you have ever had.

I purchased a groupon for here a while back and finally got around to checking it out.  My only regret is I didn't try it sooner.  The advertisement they have on yelp is a picture of a doughnut bunned burger. Obviously needed to try this.

When were seated I noticed that the doughnut bun was not on the menu…..my heart sank.  I called over the waiter who informed me they do have it but it is not listed on the menu and unfortunately they had sold out today…..BUT! He asked if I would like them to send there driver to go picked some up. My speechless wanting stare was enough for him.  About10-15 minutes later the doughnuts arrived and we were graces with this salty delectable masterpiece.   I ordered mine with a beef patty, cheese and bacon lettuce and tomatoe.   I would not suggest putting too many toppings on this burger because the doughnut is not really sturdy enough to withstand the immense force of more heavy duty topics such as an egg or avocado for example. Stick with the basics here are you will be rewarded graciously.

I know what you might be thinking.  But this this was awesome the sweetness of the doughnut coupled with the saltiness of the burger and bacon was unlike anything I had before.   Believe it or not the burger doesn't come off as too greasy as you might expect.  The beef is fairly lean which balances the burger out perfectly.

I recommend the sweet potatoe fries which are deserving of there own in depth review. They are double battered to create this perfect crunchy exterior that's a must try.

To top everything off, if you check in you can get a free icecream sandwich.   At this point you may have already hit your weekly calorie limit but why the heck not.

I enjoyed this more because I had a groupon but could see it beeing a tad too expensive if you paid full price but the atmosphere and staff are well above average.

    Try it!!

  3. This is a review for lunch.   3.5 for the burger / 4 for service and price

After walking by this place for years now, and seeing their "Zagat best burger" sign, finally gave in and went with the $11 lunch special (side, burger, and extra topping) with some coworkers.

What made the experience was the server.  Very friendly and patient as we navigated the many configuration options (they have plastic coated menus that you use a marker on to select every single possible option).

I went with the beef burger with blue cheese, crunchy onions (that was my free topping) and then all the always free toppings (onion, etc) and for my side got the salad.  The portions size was excellent, and while the burger was good, it certainly wasn't the best I have had (Minetta, Keens, and the Piggy at DBGB).  Still, for $11 I wasn't complaining and would probably go back for lunch. My friends opted for the $4 upcharge for the Kobe beef and said it was very good.

They also gain points for actually having a Yelp check in offer (been about a year since I have found a place offering anything more than a "high five from barista" which is what Brooklyn Kolache Company does).  Free ice cream sandwich (typ$7) if you check in.  Not too shabby.

  4. I've been to the Burger Bistro twice. Once with a friend for dinner and once for a solo late lunch. They offer a luck special from 11-4pm. The offer includes a burger with one topping, one cheese, and a side for $11. During my most recent visit I was greeted by an awesome server. He was super friendly and speedy. It wasn't very crowded when I arrived but it started to fill up as the hour went on. I ordered a simple burger with a side of tots. I also got a side of chipotle mayo for dipping. The chipotle mayo was super super spicy but still tasty. Since I checked in on Yelp I was able to finish my meal with a complimentary ice cream sandwich. I chose the oatmeal cookie with vanilla ice cream. The manager stopped over to check on me while I was eating which I know is not uncommon but he just seemed super genuine. His smile alone made me want to come back in the future.

  5. Stopped in for a late meal.  We shared bistro chips, which had a slightly burnt, carbon taste, but were otherwise good, topped with bleu cheese and crispy bacon crumbles, and fries, which were crispy, hot, and salted.  Neither of us could have finished the starter or side by ourselves and we have big appetites, so sharing is advisable.  As for the burger, it was okay.  It was exactly as ordered but there was nothing special about it.  My partner, who piled on more toppings than I did, said the same.  One thing: I didn't expect to have either a $1.50 topping/sauce or no sauce at all — I expected there would be some sort of default, and there wasn't.  Some alcoholic drinks or adding one of the toppings/sauces might have pushed it over the edge to a good burger for me.  We also shared an ice cream sandwich – free with the Yelp check-in – the Snickerdoodle/cinnamon ice cream.  It was okay.  We will probably try other burger places before we come back to this one.

  6. Four stars just because of the snicker doodle ice cream sandwich.  This has been the highlight of my NYC trip thus far.  I wish I could take a dozen of these back home with me.  I also had a beef burger with smoked Gouda, grilled onions and candied bacon.  The bacon wasn't candied in my opinion. It was just a basic thick circular cut.  The tots were spot on with the perfect amount of crispiness.

  7. I haven't come back for a while, and was so sad to see that they took away some of the things that I love about this place. Like, YOU CAN'T TAKE AWAY SOMETHING GOOD ONCE YOU'VE GIVEN IT TO US!! 🙁

So there used to be a free ice cream sandwich for this location when you checked in on Yelp. NO MORE! There used to be the option of getting a portobello mushroom for your topping. NO MORE! Now it's just measly, regular sized mushrooms. They used to offer seasoned fries as a side for the lunch special. NO MORE! It's now regular fries or no fries 🙁

However, I think they added a whole lot more options for the burger. I don't remember what they are though, because I usually just get beef or veggie.

This time I got a beef burger (medium well) with gouda, mushrooms, lettuce, and tomato with tots. My boyfriend got a beef burger (medium rare) with pepper jack, bacon, lettuce, and tomato with frizzled onions. My genius idea was that one of us should get the frizzled onions so we could use that to put in our burgers so we got TWO toppings! Frizzled onions is actually one of their topping options.

Anyway, the burgers were delicious! Juicy and just the right amount of fat. So satisfying.

  8. Great burger spot in Brooklyn! It's a little tight on space, but manageable. Server was super fast and attentive. They don't have a full bar, but good beer and wine options. I had the tuna steak burger with bluecheese. It was amazing and cooked perfectly. You must try the Buffalo tots! I randomly crave those. I wish I lived closer!
