  1. The Delaney brand carries quite a bit of weight.

Its first restaurant, the incomparable Brisketown, broke the traditional deli's dominance over the New York brisket scene.

A couple of pop-up places and event-only locations later, here is an entirely new concept, this time a take on the suddenly hot chicken sandwich. Here Delaney is following rather than pioneering, coming after a year when Fuku, Shake Shack and even the arrival of Chik Fil A have generated hundreds of conversations about the best way to place a piece of fried chicken on a bun.

Delaney has two basic variations – one with spicy mayo and cheese, the other with hot sauce and a pickle. I appreciated that they let me make my own version with cheese and hot sauce, avoiding both the pickle and mayo which I hate.

The crunch on the chicken is nice, although the sauce is a bit one note. Overall quite a nice sandwich – I would probably get this once a week if I was in the area. Unfortunately though this is not quite at city-best level. For that Fuku remains king.

  2. I've been a big supporter of Dan Delaney since before he was even in Brooklyn (via his BrisketLab experiments), so I was of course excited to try out his take on fried chicken. And it was damn good!

I remember when they first opened, there were lots of complaints about wait times and food temperature, but they seem to have solved all of that.

$8 gets you the Original Chicken Sandwich, and $10 gets you the Spicier Chicken Sandwich, which comes with Havarti cheese and spicy mayo. Weird that you can't do non-spicy with cheese, but whatever. No complaints from me. I love both spicy and cheese.

So the sandwich is served on a regular sized bun (no mini buns), and the chicken still peeks out the side. Sure, it's not a comically oversized as Fuku, but it's more than enough food for one regular sized person. True to the name, it had a kick to it. Luckily, they also serve Abita beer.

Wouldn't say it's the best fried chicken sandwich, but it's definitely in my top 10 in NYC. Then again, I've had a LOT of fried chicken…

  3. I liked the chicken sandwich. It was spicy and awesome though it has little shades of chicfila.

Usually during lunch, they have a long queue.

  4. Everything was perfect about the Spicier Chicken Sandwich except for their bun:chicken ratio.

Chicken : perfectly crispy, moist, delicious.

Bun : soft, pillowy, fresh, though I would have preferred mine slightly toasted.

The sandwich came with havarti cheese and spicy pickles. Excellent pairing of flavors!

Chicken:bun ratio – One of my biggest pet peeves about sandwiches is having leftover bread with no meat. I noticed there was a "gap" before I even took a bite. The remaining bread could have been 2 more bites.

  5. The sandwiches are pretty tasty but not satiating—temporarily fills you up but you'll find yourself hungry again. Customer service is so-so. For the price, I am not particularly interested in returning, as there are better options in Vanderbilt.

  6. I had the original chicken sandwich which was HUGE. 2 juicy pieces of chicken on a roll. Only $8. You could easily share.

The location is great also and the line moved quick.

  7. The chicken sandwich they offer here is downright phenomenal. I find that I am a bit of a contrarian when it comes to chicken sandwiches. Fuku was very disappointing for me, I don't like Chik-Fli-A and for whatever reason I love myself a McChicken.

So needless to say, I didn't know what to expect when I stopped by here with a couple of my friends. It was beyond great. Easily the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. I've only gotten the original chicken sandwich. It was so good to first time I had it, I would have gotten another one right there if it weren't for a line (which actually moves quite quickly).

I think urbanspace as a whole is a really good idea, but maybe that is just because every time I've ever gone there was for Delaney Chicken, more specifically their original chicken sandwich.

I cannot recommend coming here enough. Can't speak to the other options, but I have a hard time believing they're not great as well.

  8. one time I was at Urbanspace Vanderbilt walking around but I need to go back to the office quick because I got a message from número uno.

I saw this retro joint called Delaney Chicken with a simple menu that had for $8 gets you the Original Chicken Sandwich, and $10 gets you the Spicier Chicken Sandwich, which comes with Havarti cheese and spicy mayo.

I ask for the spicy to go noting else, service is quick and pretty straight forward and its designed to cater for clientele on the go, perfect.

Well I open the wrapper on my chicken sandwich and I really and I can't eat it, I'm just staring at it in a trance.

It was a thing of beauty and it made my body tingle and when I closed my eyes I envision a playboy chicken centerfold. But the bad boy side of me said take her, and I took one bite with out chewing and left it in my mouth for minutes just taking in the flavors and crispiness of the skin and the juicy tender white meat while the with the melted cheese coated the bun like  fondue the spicy mayo worked my tongue over. I can't remember finishing it or talking to the boss but I must have.

I have been back hoping to have that same encounter again but noting compares, like they say their is nothing like your first time.
