Freakin awesome. Stopped in at the recommendation of my good buddy, Harry P. The guy running the shop was friendly, knew a bunch of people from the office by name.
I ordered sandwich number 25, The Soprano. Ham capacola, imported prosciutto, hard x-sharp provolone, jalapeno peppers and red wine vinegarette, served on a brick oven hero about a foot long, for the low price of $7.50.
That's really cheap. I've paid much more at other Italian delis for a similar quality sandwich. My only complaint is that the provolone was cut very thickly. Hot peppers probably would've been better than jalapenos too. Other than that, pretty perfect.
I also picked up a mac n cheese ball. It was perfectly cheesy and held it's form. The breading was good. It felt like I was eating a mozzarella stick. Easily the best mac n cheese ball I've had and a steal at $3.75. My co-worker picked up two stuffed meatballs bigger than my fists for another steal at $8. Gotta try one of em some time.
We order for Family Affair all of the time since our office moved to Broadway. We have never had a bad experience or a bad sandwich either. We used to be a Lucas on Saddle Rive only but since trying Family Affair we have a new and one of the best Italian delis in town.
The owner is very nice and even stayed open a few minutes later because my wife was craving a turkey sandwich. All good in my books.
This a great Italian Deli. I have yet to really find one that matches up to any in Hoboken, but this one comes very close. I had a number 17, Maple glazed turkey breast with sun-dried tomatoes, store-made fresh mozzarella and honey mustard dressing. The turkey was delicious and did not taste like the crap you get in a supermarket, the sun dried tomatoes were fresh, and I added hot peppers which were as advertised…HOT. The other great part was the bread, I got the sandwich on a hero. The bread was fresh baked, had a very nice crunchy texture, but it was not too hard where you can't even bite into it. I will be back to try more of their sandwiches.
