Went here for the first time in about 15 years the other night. I have heard that they have some pretty awesome food but I have only been there for the bar. Now a little bird told me that the reason they have such great burgers is because they get their meat from The Swiss Pork Store across the street. And if you know Fair Lawn, you already know that it's the only place to buy your cold cuts or any meat for that matter! Well regardless it was Saturday night and busy. But we found seats and got a few drinks. Something smelled amazing! It was the smoked chicken wings. They were pretty awesome.. They reminded me of the big turkey legs you get at either Disney World or the Renaissance Faire. My burger was pretty great as well. The drinks I had were also huge and cheap. The porch was awesome outside and we were on and off of it the whole time we were there. Even though this place is considered a dive bar I'd def come back to hang on the porch.
I'm a fan. Dutch House is the perfect place around this area to enjoy the long summer nights. I love the porch! There are also game area where you can play pool and some arcade. Typical dive bar menu, the only pet peeve is parking situation. You can either street park in the front, or if all taken, drive through narrow alley next to it to the small lot they got in the back.
My husband and I were looking for somewhere to eat that had outdoors seating. After yelping a few places, we came across the Dutch House Tavern.
We ordered the nachos for appetizers, nice size for two people, super cheesy!!
For dinner, my husband got the Whirly Burger with a side of onion rings and I got the California Chicken sandwich with a side of fries (they were out of sweet potato fries). We asked for the burger medium but it came out well done. Not the end of the world. It was still good! My chicken sandwich was also very good. The chicken was well seasoned and not dry.
All in all it's your usual bar food. Small menu, sandwiches, burgers and some apps. Recommended if you're looking for somewhere quick and easy.
The Dutch House is a hidden suburban gem. A restaurant/bar located inside of a farmhouse that was built circa the American Revolution in northern New Jersey. What was probably a dirt road is now a busy main road and the Dutch House is surrounded by dry cleaners, nail salons, etc.
The decor is old wood, fireplace, Americana beer signs, Christmas lights, TVs, and several small rooms. In warmer weather, a farmhouse front porch opens up with tables.
The food is standard American fare, but they do make a pretty decent burger. The drinks are also standard… I did not spot a cocktail menu, nor is this the place to really need one.
This is a loved-by-locals type spot, precisely for its lack of pretension and casual vibe. There are sports playing on TV, and there is always music playing, typically from the 60's/70's. Everyone here knows and loves their bartenders, who in turn seem to take good care of everyone.
Come here to catch up with friends, have a few drinks, and relax.
The burger is good. Not bad. Not amazing, also. I was expecting a wider variety of beers indeed. Based on the reviews and for being considered one of the best burgers in the state, my expectations were really high.
It always cracks me up when people rate business as sub par when they are comparing them to other places that really have no basis of comparison. The Dutch House is, was and always will be a dive bar that happens to have really good food. I have been going there for years as it is the quintessential place in Fair Lawn to go get a drink. A few years back they added the front porch which is really quite nice, especially on warm nights. The food is actually kind of a shocker because I don't think the casual patron would expect anything of such high quality. It's really quite good. Ample parking, reasonable prices and a friendly staff all add up to a real local winner. Kudos.
2 star place with a good steak sandwich. Went inside once. Never will go again.
Somewhat quaint building (said to date from 1756). Pictures on the web site give you a good look. More of a dive bar in back. Approx ten taps. Bartenders are friendly and efficient. When I have a little time to wait for a train in Fair Lawn; this place is convenient. Have not tried the food.
