Morgan’s Barbecue

“The star of the show however for me was without a doubt the brisket, particularly the fatty, which was astonishingly good.”

“Right before I saw Beyonce' perform at the Barclays center, I ate BBQ.”

“I got the pulled pork- it was so tender and smoky, but the taste wasn't overwhelming.”

  1. I want to come back here and eat. This is a local institution and Sunday brunch is crowded. Try the brisket, the turkey, and the pulled pork, and the wings. I will build this into my itinerary when I come back up to New York before October. The food is savory, and flavorful, and the portions are large. The bar stools are steel and there isn't much comfort in that area, but the food is unmatched.

  2. Pretty solid but not unbelievable barbecue.  Great atmosphere, plenty of kids/families/couples/people who brought books and ate alone.  I can imagine that this place would be amazing over the weekend too.  I shared a brisket sandwich, buffalo chicken mac and cheese and fries with some friends.  The fries and mac and cheese were amazing – brisket sandwich was good but I've had better.  It was slightly dry and a little less flavorful than I've had at other place.  Next time I would get mac and cheese as my main meal, they have so many flavors to try (although the buffalo chicken was worth eating many times more).

  3. I've been reluctant to review this place for a while, as the first handful of times I've been here it's been a disappointment…but was very, very impressed on my most recent trip.

Was intrigued when I heard John Avila, former Franklin pit-master, used to run the show here (although he's been gone for years). The first several times I came here after moving to the neighborhood, I was a bit underwhelmed. However I'm glad I gave it another go, because the last time the brisket was quite good. I ordered a half pound of moist and it was sliced to the perfect thickness; nice smokey flavor, moist, and fatty. Good texture: very tender, but knife still needed. Sauce is a nice mixture of spicy and sweet. I'd say the meat is better than BrisketTown, but not as good as Hometown. The space itself is nice. Bar area with a couple of TVs if you want to catch the game. Sweet outdoor space that spills out onto the street facing Flatbush which is fun place to hangout when the weather is agreeable.

Chill spot to hang out, grab a drink, and enjoy some great BBQ. Would definitely recommend!

  4. 4 stars for the waitress! she was fantastic at accommodating our requests even though a bunch of their items were not available due to the long weekend (MDW). we had jamaican jerk mac n cheese, smoked pork belly tacos, chili cheese fries, brisket, and loaded potato with brisket on top.

the loaded potato was delectable and the portion was huge! the jamaican jerk mac n cheese was good. it wasn't as spicy as we hoped to be but did hit the spot. the brisket and pork belly tacos were had just the right amount of seasoning. the only not so great part was that the place was out of brisket so we had brisket from the sandwich portion and it was a big too saucy. other than that we were satisfied with our dinner.

  5. Came here on a Thursday around 7:00 PM and were pretty much seated immediately. Anyone that knows me knows that I love mac and cheese. And if there's any mac and cheese I could have…it's definitely the buffalo chicken kind. So I was seeing stars when I saw it on the menu. And I was also feeling the stars as I ate it. We also ordered chili fries, brisket sandwich, and collard greens.

The sandwich was quite good, the chili fries were amazing (because fries with cheese are practically almost always amazing), and the collard greens was kind of picklely. Not sure I loved that.

Ambiance wise, it was family and pet friendly. Really good place to be on a nice day. You can also people watch. I would definitely come here again.

  6. I've been here twice (so far… I'll be back).
I'm a big fan of the bourbon sweet tea. The pork belly and pulled pork were amazing, greasy with great smoked flavor. The collard greens melt in your mouth. I tried the regular, Jamaican jerk, and mushroom mac'n'cheese and all were delicious. The Jamaican jerk may be my favorite – it was a pleasant mix of savory, sweet, spice, and cheese. The cornbread is some of the best I've ever had. I'm less enthusiastic about the catfish tacos and wings. While the catfish tacos were tasty, they were on the small side. And the wings were a bit overcooked and dry.
While I had a good experience both times, my second visit was a little disappointing because (1) they ran out of pork belly and (2) happy hour ended an hour earlier, ending at 6pm.
This place is good for big groups. Staff is extremely friendly and accommodating.

  7. Stumbled upon this place while looking for a nice place to hang out with friends and grab some food. We were seated at a nice long table outside. Service was great and fairly quick!

I ordered the brisket sandwich. Flavor was great, but it was a bit small. I also split the chilli cheese fries and buffelo chicken mac and cheese. The fries were bomb! Great flavor, and the meat was so savory. Highly recommend the fries!

The mac and cheese was also pretty solid. Very cheesy and good flavor.

  8. Outdoor seating is always a win.  Went here and had the fatty brisket – good- and the collard greens which were good and spicy.

    The cocktail was good.
