Sauvage

“I went during their first week open and really enjoyed the food:
-Leek Terrine was amazing.”

“We were too late for the already famous squid ink garganelli (our reservation was for 9:15) but still we had the chance to try the unbelievably good ricotta dumplings.”

“OMG please save us from the pretentiousness) Had the hake, and my partner had the sea bass, both were carefully prepared, subtle and tasted amazing.”

  1. Sauvage scores big points for ambiance – their wrap around sidewalk spot on the corner was perfect for a dreamy summer night. Overall I would rate it as a solid – if not expensive – dinner spot, good for a special evening.

    Pros:
    – Very cute atmosphere – little touches like the brightly colored menus were fun
    – Very good reasonable 9 dollar glass of rosé
    – waitress was quick to answer on GF options and everything we were interested in was gluten free
    – the food was pretty scrumptious (hake in a seafood broth and steak with potatoes were solid entrees)

    Cons:
    – As previous posters mentioned, the price and portions left something to be desired – especially for the vegetable we ordered (the asparagus) and the queen crab (half order)
    – The service was also a bit on the slow side – which I don't mind so much, but we were very close to the table next to us and they were a bit boisterous and vocally miffed

So yes, I liked Sauvage, and would visit again, but not my favorite spot ever.

  2. Cool new place from the team that runs Maison Premier.  I went during their first week open and really enjoyed the food:
-Leek Terrine was amazing.  Great combination of flavors, and everything on it, including the clams, was perfectly cooked.  Yes, clams.  Unusually dish, but quite good.
-Lettuce Soup was also delicious.  It too had seafood, some uni if I remember correctly.  Actually, a generous amount.  Another great dish,
-I also had a pea salad.  I love spring peas, favas, and snap peas.  It was an outstanding salad.

Not sure why I was eating so healthy this night, but I left pretty full.  Also had a couple drinks, of course.  A good beer and a very nice glass of wine, which was unusual, also in a good way, and a good value.

The atmosphere was great too.  There is something I didn't love about the service, but it isn't as bad as Maison Premier, which makes me crazy.  Still, I felt a little bit of phoniness and like I might not be cool enough to be there.  That wasn't from everyone though.
