I have Xi'an on my Instagram, and almost everyday I think, "I need to go to New York just to order something from Xian!". Last April, my husband and I did make it a point to eat here on a visit, and we loved it. The only thing I would not get again is the Rice Cake, simply because it's not my thing.
– N1 – Spicy Cumin Lamb Noodles $8.75 – my husband ordered this. It's right up his alley – cumiin, lamb, spicy – it's like it was designed for him. If you love cumin and heat, definitely give this a try. Of course the noodles were great.
– NS10 – Stewed Oxtail Noodles in Soup $10.50 – also delicious. The meat was great, and not too fat (I am picky about oxtail because it can be too gelatinous sometimes, but it was good here).
– Rice Cake with Honey $4.00
– Chrysanthemum Tea $1.75
– Jasmine Tea $1.75 – both teas were good – cold and refreshing, and not too sweet. They go well with the spicy dishes they serve up here.
I am not sure what I can say about this place that hasn't been said before, but you absolutely must eat here. As an out of town visitor, this is what its all about for an authentic New York experience. Get some phenomenal Chinese noodles, immediately slurp them down while standing in the corner of this hole in the wall restuarant and thank me later.
After going to the St. Marks location, this is absolutely not the store I would visit if you're craving the food. The turnaround time from when you order your meal to when you receive it is unbearably long. The food is worth trying, but I'd suggest visiting one where you can eat your food before the hangry-ness kicks in.
Coworker recommended this spot, not the biggest fan of Chinese food. I has NS5, vegetarian soup + spicy. Being Indian, it wasn't spicy at all. I'm told to order the noodles next time as the spices won't be as diluted. The line is out the door, very small amount of seating in the back. A spot to pick up and go.
Xi'an is a fantastic place for a quick lunch/dinner for a party of one.
Originally my coworkers and I dropped by for some authentic Chinese food for a group, but we didn't realize the seating is completely on a first come basis.
Nevertheless, the food was fabulous. We got a little bit of everything…the beef noodles, the cold clear (liang pi) noodles and some dessert patties. It definitely tasted like something that came out of the village restaurants of Xi'an.
As a Chinese person who's spent a great deal of time in Xi'an, I absolutely approve!
Hands down my favourite place to eat in New York. I would fly back just to have me some NS1.
Came here during a food crawl with friends. Cumin lamb noodles were good in the first few bites, but after you realize how oily and gross it is hahha. Needed to grab a chrysanthemum tea to cool off the spice because they don't serve tap water. The noodles were also very slippery to handle, so be careful if you are wearing light colored clothing!
Not too bad, came here for a quick snack when it wasn't too busy. The spicy cumin noodles were awesome but VERY spicy (at least to me)!! This is very casual Chinese junk food, can't go wrong there. I hope to come back and try some other stuff and update my review.
