Good soul food, served in a CLEAN buffet restaurant. Awesome!
Most people who walked into Sweet Mama's got their food to go, but I had to sit down and enjoy my food after an hour-long drive from Connecticut. My boyfriend had driven past this restaurant a few times, so he suggested we made the trip just to try it out. The appeal was that it was good food served in a buffet for only $5.30 per pound. As far as I know, we don't have that in Connecticut. You can get as much collared greens, mac and cheese, or fried chicken as your heart desires…for $5.30 per pound. My gluttony kicked in, so I piled on the food. The collared greens were the best I had ever had; it wasn't cooked with too much vinegar, and it tasted delicious. The jerk chicken was good, but I couldn't eat anymore of it because it was very spicy. I love that they serve whole fried tilapia. Their sweet tea and lemonade are like crack in a cup…so addictively good!
There aren't many tables available because the place is small, but as I have previously mentioned, most of their customers take their food to go. However, Sweet Mama's is immaculately clean. The restaurant provides hand sanitizer from automated machines by the serving stations, the cooks wear clean uniforms, and the bathroom looks like it belongs in a 5-star hotel in New York City. I was impressed!
delicious soul food for a cheap price. buffet-pay-by-weight style
The best soul food buffet in Harlem! Hands down!! No not manna's or jacob's or anyone else. Sweet Mama's is reasonably priced and the food is soooo delicious. It is always fresh. I was impressed to see that even almost at closing time the chef was bringing out all fresh batches of food. No pork served (a plus for me). The salmon is good, mac and cheese, collards, and yams are ALL delicious. The rice and beans are addictive. The vegetable rice is yummy. Fresh fruit galore and the peach cobbler is mediocre. The tea and lemonade are sweet and tasty, whether combined or individually. They're very clean and friendly. I love it!! And I go often. Kudos & well deserving of 5 stars!!
