  1. Awesome new restaurant! Everything is incredibly – and genuinely fresh. First, it's very cozy inside, no frills which adds to the well done simplicity. Great service, the staff is very polite and friendly not to mention quick.

The most important part is ALL the food is really delicious! Did not try one thing I didn't like. For appetizers the chicken liver mousse is a MUST! The cheese plate is also very good and there are some fantastic spreads and bread that go along with the cheese. Entrees..the cheeseburger is very yummy and the spicy pickles give it a nice kick. The kale Caesar salad is fantastic (it was a special but ask it seems simple enough for them to create.) Try the steak – it was perfectly cooked and the portion was ideal not to mention the warm kale potato salad that came with it. YUM!

Definitely give this spot a try…. oh and they serve up some good cocktails too! Really nice dirty martinis and try their signature 'dark and stormy'.

  2. Tried the eggplant toast, trout and roast chicken. Prices on the dinner menu are not really in line with the neighborhood so be prepared for some sticker shock before you arrive. The space is lovely with lots of window seating and attentive service.  I appreciated some risks taken with flavor pairings – cherries were served alongside my coconut curry trout and it worked! Fish was cooked perfectly and all the vegetables were at peak freshness so this kitchen is on point.

In general the portions were quite small for the price but the two of us felt stuffed after sharing one appetizer and two entrees as the food was pretty heavy. While Midwinter Kitchen is charming, it felt like a splurge and I would personally choose a more exotic menu for special occasions. I would have made this 4 stars if prices were more in line with casual weeknight dining in this area.

  3. This place is trendy, adorable & super welcoming. I found this searching on Yelp and was excited a farm to table restaurant was 1) so close to my apartment; 2) had great reviews.

Firstly: cocktails. Holy moly that lavender gin cocktail (firefly) was incredible. They had an impressive cocktail and wine list.

Secondly: vibe & service. It wasn't overly crowded around 6:45 on a Tuesday, but quickly filled up. But, service was incredible. The bartender and waitress were both super attentive and receptive to questions. I was seeing an old friend and they let us sit and chat even after we paid the bill– we never felt rushed. The restaurant itself has wood seats, pillows along the bench seating & is really open. It's a little warm (temperature wise), but other than that super nice.

Thirdly: the food. I don't usually order chicken, but the chicken dish sounded amazing, and it really, really was. It was a perfectly cooked, juicy piece of chicken surrounded with kale & fancy mushrooms & sauce, over this gnocchi/polenta cake thing. It was so so so yummy.

I can't wait to come back here, and taste what they create with the seasonal foods & veggies! 🙂

  4. I enjoyed my brunch experience at Midwinter Kitchen. The restaurant is small, but cozy and quaint. It has a very eco-friendly, earthy look to it which goes along with the theme of the place since they have their own farm that they source most of their produce and meats from. The menu was small, but offered a good variety for all palates. The portions are not huge, but offer a reasonable amount. We had the cornmeal pancakes with fresh blueberries on top and they were very good. They had a different texture since they used cornmeal which added a nice differentiation to traditional pancakes. We also had the mushroom and kale omelette which wasn't huge but was stuffed with very fresh mushrooms and kale.  They definitely did not overlook quality here. We also had the Avocado toast which I seriously loved! The flavors of the avocado spread on top was delicious. It was a mix of sour/tangy from the lemon and a bit spicy from the chili combined with the creaminess of the ripe avocado. There were both very creamy and chunk pieces of avocado on it in layers, I would go back just for the Avocado toast! It's a must try! Overall, the service was great and we were lucky enough not to have to wait to be seated when we arrived!
