What is it with NY and their tiny burgers with humongous price tags. When you charge $10 for a burger, you're setting the expectations pretty high (even for NY), and this place definitely falls short. Their namesake burger was pretty bland, not sure what the two8two sauce was supposed to taste like. All I tasted was a cheeseburger with poblano chiles.
The feta on the Greek fries also lacked any tang and just served to mute the flavor of the fries. Most of it ended up left on the plate and not in the stomach =(.
I was looking for a place we could reserve for a large group (25-30 people) with an outdoor space, while not having to put money down up front. The fella suggested Two8Two, and we made the reservation for a Saturday night in late June.
Thank you, Two8Two, for a great evening. With a group that size we were able to reserve the entire backyard (four regular picnic tables) and it was nice being able to mingle and have the full space without having to share seats with other parties*. The evening started a little inauspiciously: the space wasn't yet ready at our 6PM reservation time; we got out there closer to 6:15PM. However, after staying until about 11:30, that 15 minutes seemed inconsequential!
Other than one instant in which the waitstaff brought out several burgers and weren't sure who had ordered them, the whole team handled our large group (and our copious orders of burgers, cocktails and beer) with aplomb. They stopped by often enough to take new drink orders and bus tables but didn't get in the way. We kept everything on one tab, and after 5 hours of 20+ people drinking, the tab all checked out (which, in my mind, was a minor miracle).
If you are looking for an outdoor space for a group, consider having your get-together here. The prices are reasonable, there is enough variety for everyone (as long as they like burgers, but who doesn't? Even as a vegetarian I get to enjoy their veg burger), and the drink menu is well-rounded.
*Other parties: I'm genuinely sorry we had the whole backyard if you had come to the restaurant to sit outside.
I love Two 8 Two burgers. If you were to take a Shake Shack burger, In and Out and combine it into something that tastes better and is more filling, this would be it. The menu here ranges from the classic Two 8 Two burger to veggie, chicken, lamb and breakfast styles. They also have hotdogs, salads and milkshakes, so there is really something for everyone. This place is classy but no frills. The service is solid and i've never had a bad meal. They also have a full bar, specialty cocktails and a ton of beers on draft. The burgers start around $8.50 and range-$13. Since they are not huge, I recommend ordering a side of fries with the burgers-a plate of fries is huge and big enough to split for two people. Make sure to get extra ketchup up front, we had trouble flagging someone down for more. The tiny containers they give aren't enough for fried for two. The sweet potato fries rock. My other favorites are the Two 8 Two burger & the lamb burger with tzatziki sauce. Two8two sauce is worth ordering on the side if it's not on your sandwich. That stuff is like crack. Aside from the back seating area, they also have a bar out front and a bark yard area with seating. Overall, this is a stellar spot when you get that burger craving!
I came in here from the good reviews on Yelp. It took the wait staff a couple of minutes to seat us, even though they weren't too full up. By the time we sat down and took a look at our menus, nearly all the tables filled up. Before we were seen for our drink order, two tables seated got drinks and their orders taken. When we were seen by the waiter, he apologized for the wait as he was alone. No worries, I get it when you're slammed with folks and you're on your own. Sucks. So we cut him some slack and ordered some food and waited. Then tables who were seated after us, got their food before us, which made us a little prickly, because we were hangry. And after that, my partner's burger which he ordered medium rare came our medium to well-done. When I flagged the waiter over to address it, since my partner said it really wasn't good and not what he wanted, the waiter argued with us about how that was medium not well-done, even though we had ordered it medium rare and told him that and the burger even came with a little M. RARE flag in it. Throughout the exchange, the waiter was passive aggressive and condescending to us. The onion rings were superb, but other than that the food was meh, especially with dealing with that waiter. I'm sure on another night he would have been fine, but the whole experience just seemed to snowball into a bad dinner.
Absolutely delicious burgers!
I had the billy burger (fried onions, cheddar, house sauce) and sweet potato fries. Husband had the breakfast burger and fries. We were blown away by how great the food is.
Very straightforward and inexpensive. If I wasn't pregnant I would have loved to sample some craft cocktails!
Service was fast and effective. Our waters were refilled multiple times! All in all a great dining experience!
I had heard there was a lovely outdoor space and that the burgers were pretty good, so my friends and I decided to come here for lunch on a Friday. It was surprisingly busy for a week day. We sat outside; it's small but nice. They have string lights up, which I imagine are lovely at night.
There are many different burger options on the menu. My friend settled on the half & half and really really enjoyed it. There were only 2 vegetarian options: a veggie burger that was soy based and a grilled cheese. I did not want to have the soy based veggie burger because of the soy, so I went with the grilled cheese with tomato. This was very boring and I could have easily made a better one at home. The fries were fine but truly nothing special.
I think this place probably does a good meat based burger but vegetarians should skip this place.
Really good burger here. The net/net is that it's cooked to order fairly perfectly and comes out looking good and not dilapidated and, really, what more could you ask of a burger place?
We ordered 2 Pub burgers – grilled onions, cheddar cheese, bacon on top, with their version of ketchup/mayo (2-8-2 sauce). Inhaled. Gone. Never to be seen again.
The menu is short and concise, which I appreciate. Get the onion rings, skip the regular fries. Outdoor seating with shade!
We didn't have cocktails, but everyone around us did and boy, they are small. Very small.
I heard this place calling my name from across the street…"hey Jason, Two 8 Two is just for YOU!" So I figured why not?!
Walk in and was greeted by a very friendly bartender manning the decent sized bar. Gave me a menu and was indecisive because all the burgers and sandwiches looked so good. Went with the Breakfast Burger. Delicious beyond Delicious! Burger was a nice size, steaming hot , juicy & so fresh. I want another one!
Though I took my food To-Go I can't really comment on the service or even the dining room but from what I saw beyond the bar is the small dining area but with an outdoor area beyond that.
Great uplifting music going to enjoy your meal!
Amazing burger for a decent price. Well worth the money – you'll definitely leave wanting more!
