  1. I came to this tiny deli to taste their famous PHO Real sandwich.

Frankly, I'm not sure why so many yelpers rave about it. It's ok, but nothing to get excited about.

Maybe they were in a bad mood, but I wasn't given much meat, and the bread was soggy.

With so many good sandwich options in the neighborhood, this would not be one of my top choices.

  2. Think all delis all the same? Think again. The people behind Sunny and Annie's definitely do not consider themselves your average deli with their array of sandwiches – their Pho #1 being their most popular. With this extremely warm winter that we've had, if you think it's too warm outside for pho, you have to come out to Alphabet City to experience this soupless pho. Their Pho #1 is literally a bowl of pho as it consists of the beef, the cilantro, the hoisin sauce, the sriracha sauce, and the bean sprouts.

The only addition that this sandwich has that the real pho doesn't have is the addition of avocado. Beware – they do add quite the amount of sriracha, so if you can't handle too much heat, either ask for less, ask for the sriracha on the side, or ask for extra napkins because you will be sweating and/or have a runny nose.

There's absolutely no seating available, so take this sandwich to the nearby park and bring out your inner monster – this sandwich is a messy one.

  3. Minimum $10 for credit cards! It's a typical deli/bodega. But they have phenomenal sandwiches! So many options and so many people came for the same thing while I was there: THE PHO#1 SANDWICH. Just try it and you'll know why. The cilantro, basil, hoisin, sriracha and how can i forget the roast beef?! The list goes on. Tasted as if I was really eating a hot bowl of pho! $8 for the sandwich.

  4. That pho #1 on a roll… love deli sandwiches.  They're always generous in portion so you can split the sandwich with a friend.

  5. I can only review the one sandwich I've had repeatedly there – the Pho #1 sandwich. This thing is amazing. It truly encompasses all the flavors – sure brings back childhood memories of all the pho I ate as a kid.

Word to the wise, eat it as soon as you can or your bread will get soggy from the ingredients. (I tried buying this a few hours before going to the airport and didn't eat it well onto the plane.)

  6. A bit of walk but definitely worth it.

The deli is inside the supermarket and yes…its crammed…but shut up and go order!

They have a gazillion choices (okay…maybe like 20) but you're here for the Pho Real..get that one…the other pho ones…theyre weird…they have fruits…who wants fruits in their sandwiches?

With the choice of hot or cold…I opted for the hot and im glad I did.  After finding a place to sit (I went to a café).  The roast beef is thinly sliced…and yes it does remind me of the thin sliced beef for pho.  You got the bean sprouts on the bottom and onions and the mounts of hosin sauce and hot sauce….the only thing that was out of place for me was the avocado but it worked…everything worked!

Open wide!  This sandwich isn't small but the soft roll help makes eating much easier! and yes it is messy so grab your napkins.

I have to say tho…I wish they didn't lather all that sauce…the hosin sauce got a little overbearing…i'll ask for light next time.

Other than that…its a delicious sandwich…done well and fine…and no need for glamour

  7. One of the best deli sandwiches in New York lives at this humble grocer in Alphabet City. The Pho Real is UNREAL. Freshly sliced medium rare roast beef with Vietnamese toppings…hits both the traditional sandwich and Asian flavor cravings all at once. All of the ingredients are incredibly fresh and unique unlike most places of it's kind around Manhattan. The sandwich also comes topped with basil, cilantro, sprouts, avocado, and a significant helping of spicy Asian sauces (not for the faint of spice, but they are okay with substitutions). To boot, the price point is actually in line with the amount of food your receiving, at just $8 you'll feel satisfied and know for sure you haven't been ripped off. Can't wait to return to find out if they are a one trick pony and if they are, damn, I am okay with that!

  8. Been coming here occassionally for five years but it was my regular, late night deli go-to when I lived in the LES. Pho sandwich is real and more hyped than ever since Vietnamese food has been the "it" cuisine for the last few years. It's good – a bit messy. Friendly people though; I like to support them.
