One of the few cafes with enough seats and space to feel roomy and welcome with plenty of time to enjoy your meal and not feel rushed out the door. It's also open earlier than other breakfast/brunch spots nearby.
The classical music plays at a volume that still allows for easy conversation or contemplation if you happen to be writing or need to work a little during your meal… or writing a postcard thank you note provided and stamped by LPQ. The tables are all waitstaff- so you're either in for the whole service and having enough time to relax, or grabbing your selection from the counter up front to go.
The frittata selection is almost always one of the best meals. If you have a few friends with you and you just want to do coffee drinks- get a pastry basket to nibble on together and sit at the big table where you can easily sample the different jams and spreads available.
This was my first time visiting Le Pain Quotidien and I have to say, I enjoyed every aspect of my meal. I had the Tomato & Mozzarella Panzanella salad and the Mint Iced Tea. The salad was well portioned and delicious from start to finish. Fresh greens, sweet tomatoes, smooth mozzarella, and really tasty fresh croutons. The Mint Iced Tea reminded me of a Mojoit with it's generously infused fresh mint leaves.
The waitress was very upbeat and friendly and the atmosphere was great. Brightly lit and airy. The vaulted ceilings give the place a loud acoustic, but it wasn't so loud that I couldn't hear the other party at my table. Great place for a business lunch. We didn't feel rushed at all like in some places.
Would definitely return. 🙂
Got the wheat sourdough very quickly. I'm impressed by the prices, too. The woman helping me was all smiles, a nice touch.
I have such a love-hate relationship with LPQ…
I love that their food is mostly organic. I love that the restaurants are peaceful and airy. I love that for the most part their food is tasty.
I don't love their usually horrific service (especially here in the US – it's not terrible abroad). I don't love their prices. I don't love their often dirty restaurants.
So it was with much trepidation that I joined my brother for breakfast at this particular LPQ location for the first time. But I'm happy to report that this location is great!
Ambiance – This location is much larger than it seems from the outside though, and the tables are CLEAN, which is nice. The restaurant was fairly empty on a Thursday morning at 8:30 am.
Service – Great. Our server was friendly and food came out quickly. She even checked up on us, which is a novel concept for LPQ.
Food – My oatmeal was nicely presented and delicious. My brother had the avocado toast and had no negative comments about it so I think he enjoyed it.
Overall – I'm not sure how my experience would differ if I came at a busier time…hopefully it'll still be as great. We'll see!
You feel cool and less of a plebeian when you come in here – Checked.
You find the food to be quite nice, fresh and delicious for a chain – Checked..
You find yourself waiting for the people infront of you to order but only to find out that they are not in line, many wasted minutes later, because you thought you knew better and cashier didn't bother to ask you – Checked.
You find the service to be good once you are attended – Checked
You didn't expect to pay this much for the items you just ordered. -Checked.
You didn't expect to pay this fair price for the items you just ordered. -Checked.
You did find bathroom here. Of course, there is a line for it. -Checked.
Probably the most architecturally interesting of the PQs I've seen. Spacious, high-ceilinged, with an oversized communal table.
Plus, a glass-enclosed bakery, where they offer bread baking classes for $75. Sign up early, as the max enrollment is 10 people. This might make a fun birthday present for an aspiring baker.
The food is the standard, and the service is friendly and accommodating. It can feel a bit lonely if you come at an off hour, and they close early, at 7:30pm.
I do not understand the hate. I thought this place was aaaaaamazing. The hummus was so delicious but the choice was bread was the only strange part. I would have liked some pita or thinner cut pieces. Get pita, get five stars. We also had the cheese plate which had a good selection and different breads.
Dessert was also great, with a very airy almond meringue, the tartlet quartet, and a raspberry tart. The meringue was the winner even though our waiter dropped the first one on the ground (he came back with a second instantly). It was late in the afternoon but they were only out of one thing we wanted so that was also good.
Our waiter was friendly and funny without the annoying in your face-ness of some places. The bathroom and dining area were also super clean.
my boyfriend gifted me their Bread Baking Basics class for my birthday & we LOVED it!!! (ONLY offered at this location in NYC & the fashion island location)
SIGN UP ONLINE EARLY !! each class only consists of about 8 people & the spots fill up quickly
upon arrival we signed in & were given aprons and hats to wear throughout the 3 hour class! they prepared dough for us so that we'd have less downtime waiting for them to rise, BUT we also got to mix our own dough as well!
—SUPER HANDS ON, they let us perform every step of the way & you got to practice each technique multiple times
—FRIENDLY, WELCOMING, KNOWLEDGEABLE teacher!
—TONS OF BREAD TO TAKE HOME & a yummy pizza to eat inside the bakery at the end of the 3 hour course, & you walk away knowing you guys baked it!!
—the epi's, chocolate rolls, baguettes, & pizza dough were all delicious, i just wish my oven was nice enough at home that I could actually achieve their crusty texture!
would definitely recommend this class!
