  1. Fresh off my Miami trip, I headed into this Miamiesque spot for dinner. A big fan of some of their Brazilian food, the seafood chowder was good enough. I ordered the chicken, for my main. What they brought- smoked, smelly and inedible I had to send it back. The roast chicken with its beans and sweet plantains (see pic below) was pure Latin comfort. They no longer serve the roast chicken- too much prep. Sure it was the highest quality item on the menu.  Now that the food has nosedived., so far South, everything is shabby. The tiny 80's throwback bathrooms are gross and not cute and the food in 2016 needs a reboot no matter how many caprinhas you've had.

  2. I've been in for one breakfast, countless lunches and most recently one dinner.

My conclusion is that Coffee Shop's menu offerings and atmosphere make it the best option for lunch. My office used to be right around the corner, and this was a nice pick for when you wanted to take someone out for a lunch that was a little more special than chipotle, but didn't want to break the bank at one of Union Square's swankier lunch spots. There are plenty of light and refreshing salads and burger and sandwich options. I almost always go with a turkey burger here and am never dissatisfied.

Don't get me wrong – this place is open 23 hours out of the day and is fine for mostly any meal- but I just think that the menu options seem a bit more lunch-esque. It was also super crowded during my most recent dinner here, and it felt like our waitress was trying to rush us out which was a bit frustrating. Lunch here is usually way less hectic, and if you can snag a table outside that overlooks the park on a nice day it's actually incredibly relaxing.

Coffee Shop isn't standout, but I'd definitely come back again. Easy to please eats, decent prices and a convenient location make it worth the trip

  3. Just reviewing for drinks….sat at the bar with friends on a Saturday night and had mojitos.  They were really good.  The bartender was excellent and extremely friendly.

I haven't been here in years but I had a great time.

  4. The well known trendy retro diner coffee shop holds a special place of nostalgia for me as thee very first place I went on my first time in NYC just visiting a friend who lived near here… Bright lights big city and I was mesmerized by it all; my friend said the servers here were models or aspiring models …

I am biased as It's hard to find negative in the first place you visited first time ever in NYC.  But the few times I've been here for a drink – since that time years ago –  drinks were good and the place did then and still does carry the same vibe of a trendy, cool spot with beautiful servers; some with semi 'tude but that is dealable and softenable once you chat w them a bit.

Had a few minutes to spare before an event in the area yesterday so passing by decided to stop in for a coffee … Their coffee making set up is impressive with newspapers on the nearby counter I didn't notice before. Opted for a sangria instead per the friendly hostesses happy hour recommendation which was very good.

Bartender was beautiful and could def fit the model role- only taking particular notice of this here as that's the reputation from long ago. She had the amusing demeanor of beauty – tude as she somewhat indifferently waited on people at the bar — a 'tude which softened a bit after ordering and especially when I said the drink she made was pretty.  Hearing the word pretty she seemed to do a little 'hmmm ? What was that?' double take… I said "the drink… It's very pretty… I mean, you are too… But I was talking about the drink."  Ha And there you have it — after reading  some negative service reviews about this place I recommend being amused not offended by any model-esque aloofness and — perhaps telling servers they're pretty as a key to boost the ego and lose some 'tude.

I can't speak to the food but I like the vibe, decor and drinks – and when we've come it's never over the top crowded.   I recommend at least for drinks and the vibe if you're in the Union square area.

  5. I was surprised that for such a dull sounding dish (Vegetarian Cheese Omelet), it was actually very good.  The flavors were fresh, especially the individual flavors from each vegetable.  The texture was also very good.

I'd always been under the impression that this was a place to be seen and socialize rather than for the actual food, but the food was very good!  I'd go back!

  6. I love the other people who described this place as a diner with a bar run by wannabe models. It's pretty spot on. It was an okay brunch place. Large place but crowded and a bit squeezes. Service was fine. Food was okay. Nothing memorable and nothing particularly stood out on the menu. My wife liked the pancakes and was given enough to take home. It's pricey but it's in union square so I can't complain. Interestingly there is a bar in the back as well as a lounge and now a taco place.

Probably wouldn't come back. Too many places to try!

  7. This place is very much a typical American diner, except for the Brazilian items on the menu.

For a Sunday brunch after church, this place was perfect. We sat at the bar to avoid the 20 minute wait for a table. The decor is typical diner so nothing special. I had the juevos rancheros which were pretty good.

I would go again if I was nearby.

  8. On my recent trip to NYC to visit my daughter, I went for a long walk starting on the lower west side cutting over in Union Square to finish my walk on the lower east side. I came upon this restaurant and enjoyed a wonderful lunch. The special today was pastrami tacos.  They were delicious! I also enjoyed a cappuccino.  Nice, attentive staff, great for people watching.
