  1. Many years ago there was a Comfort Diner by the subway at 86th and Lexington. Then when it closed I found it on 23 street somewhere! Then thank goodness I was walking by and looked East on 45th Street and saw the Comfort Diner sign. I couldn't wait to go in to see if the menu and service was as great as I remember. I was not disappointed.
Two of us had lunch. I had the Chicken Club. It had delicious bacon and lettuce with mayo. You can pick your bread so had had the delicious multi grain. It was so huge they really could have left off the third piece of bread. I gave half of the chicken breast to my daughter to take home. I also had my favorite, sweet potato fries. Sandwich was without the tomato due to allergy. It does come with tomato.
My daughter had the chicken wrap with fries. She took half home. It was huge. Comes with fries. We both got pickle also.
I remember their deserts used to be huge and delicious. I was so stuffed I couldn't even look at the desert selection.
Now I won't be happy until I go back for breakfast and for desert.
Our service was great. Dahlia is a true professional. I love to see someone that is great at their customer service. She reminded me of the diners I always love. Thank you Dahlia!
I'll be going back. My daughter gave going back a thumbs up too. Convenient location not far front buses and Grand Central. We walked. You need exercise after that big meal!
Everyone go check it out! Comfort Food in a Comfort Diner!

  2. I was in NYC for 3 days, and was looking for a place to eat on our first morning.  This place was a few blocks away from the hotel and damn were we ever happy that we found it.  We came back here every morning and bought a $10 mug to commemorate the trip.

You really get a diner feel with the décor, food and milkshakes – I love it.  They have funny (yet some can be crude) cartoons on the wall; give them a read.

There's a large variety of milkshakes, with a new special everyday.  They make them fresh, and are huge and filling (probably best to share one).

Their pancakes are literally the best home-made pancakes I have ever had.  They have a special pancake everyday (and other specials as well).  If there's something off the weekend menu that you are hoping to get during the week on another day – double check, b/c the menu isn't completely the same.

Their cheesy omelette is delicious and really cheesy!

Only complaint about the food was the toast.  It is often cold and slightly burnt.  That being said, the staff are accommodating and will make you fresh toast – though I would think that would be expected.

This place truly is worth coming back to next time I'm in NYC.

  3. Sat here for 30 + minutes without an order being taken. There were no customers and the server was busy with her phone and just hanging around.

Though the place is going with the "vintage" theme, it truly looks like this diner has been around for a while and just didn't update anything. I have seen vintage but it looks like the original.

So yeahhhh, never coming back here. I felt like I was in the 50's or 60's when some diners chose not to serve blacks. I am grateful because I would prefer they choose not to serve me, then mess over my food.

  4. I was very happy with the food at the Comfort Diner.  The whole wheat bread they serve is delicious! My omelette was cooked well done as I requested and the exact way I ordered it. The potatoes were seasoned well and cooked perfectly.

The pancakes of the day sounded so good, but I was really craving an omelette.

On a not so great note, my breakfast came with juice and I was never offered it. I wanted it to go or my soda substituted, that didn't happen.

I also asked for a both because I had several bags with me. There many that were open, I was told no. I ended up sandwiched between my bags while the booths remained empty during my whole visit.

  5. Oh the Comfort Diner! Could you not just be on my doorstep instead of hundreds of miles away!
We were visiting New York over the New Year from Ireland, wanted a diner that we could get a cup of coffee and possibly some pancakes and boy did this place tick all the boxes!
We were sat in a booth (a novelty to us all the same) and had our coffee cups refilled umteen times, the coffee in New York is still the only type that got my foot bouncing off the floor after 1 cup!
The lady that served is was lovely, really inviting and warm and we just wish we could visit this gem more often to refill our cups and have a chat.

  6. We walked in and were lucky to get one of the last two remaining tables at breakfast time. I had read about the lemon ricotta pancakes and they did not disappoint. The flavor was delicious. The coffee was good too. Hubby had an omelet and he seemed happy. This place is a friendly, cheerful, clean restaurant with staff that welcomes you and makes you feel like you are at home. The only downside is that for $15 per meal it is a little steep for the amount of food you get. I'm happy we went there once, but probably will not return.

  7. Really liked this place for breakfast! Very vintage with super friendly staff. I had the corned beef hash which was amazing and not like what you usually get. Was made with sweet potatoes, beets, potatoes, onions and delicious corned beef. Our neighbors had stuff challah French toast which looked and smelled sinful – in a good way! Definitely recommend if you're looking for a good breakfast.

  8. Great place was recommended and will go the same
Not flashy but made to feel welcome and on the next visit was treated like a local  a good selection of food and really happy to change menu to suit you
Will defiantly go there again when back in town
