This is one of the first places in the Bensonhurst area dedicated to skewers and fried foods. 8th Avenue is fully stocked with places like these such as Chi Ken, Simon's BBQ, Mr. Grill's and much more.
All the food was laid out fresh and raw for you to choose from. I like that I was able to see what the food was before ordering and plus there were some things on the menu that I didn't know what it was and seeing it helped clarify.
When you make your order, you fill out a form of what you want and in how many quantities and then hand it to the cashier.
They currently don't accept credit card. There's not much seating, about 10 seats along the wall. They also have a drinks section if you want some tea and juices.
I ended up getting 4 skewers which came out to $10. I found this to be really overpriced, most places sell skewers for no more than $2 each. They even sold a cauliflower skewer for $2.50..
Asparagus beef roll – The beef was burnt and it was a bit bland
Asparagus pork roll – way too salty
Enoki mushroom pork roll – I've had way better ones at Mr.Grill's
Scallion pork roll – this was the worst one out of the bunch, it smelled like sewers! Yuck!!
Overall, I'm really disappointed with the skewers, not only was it overpriced it was really mediocre.
I'm curious to see how long this place will last since businesses seem to come and go within 6 – 12 months in the Bensonhurst area.
P.S. You can get way better skewers from carts in Chinatown, Flushing and 8th Avenue.
Brand new skewer place in Bensonhurst! I paid this place a visit on their opening day a few days ago since they offered free samples outside but it was too crowded so I just left lol. Came back again today and things were much more organized. Once you go in, you are handed a slip where you can check off the items that you want. You then give it to the cashier, pay, and they prepare your order. It takes a while but I'd rather them make it to order than have pre-made food lying around.
Popcorn chicken- Comes with basil! It wasn't too salty and the chicken was cooked nicely. I'll have these over McNuggets any day.
Chicken omelet- It's a chicken wing that has been deboned and stuffed with sticky rice. The chicken was crispy and the sticky rice was great as well.
Chicken skewer with pepper- Not my favorite since the chicken was kind of dry and flavorless and the peppers were kind of bland.
Asparagus pork roll- Yum!! This was my favorite! The bacon was flavored nicely and added a nice savoriness to the asparagus!
I'm glad this place opened up in the area cause now I no longer have to travel all the way to 8th ave for skewers! Food was good and prices aren't bad. I'll be back!
Came in for a quick lunch and was not disappointed. Their popcorn chicken is really good – although I like it a tad more crunchy it was breaded lightly and seasoned well. We also tried the cabbage which was nice and tasty. The skewers were a-ok – depends on your mood but I really came here for their chicken. We also tried the lemon jasmine tea which was interestingly refreshing. Will def come back for more!
I was iffy when this place opened, the intense smell of fried oil mixed with the goodness of street food scent! (like the fried chicken leg in a Chinatown cart! Mmm…).
Chicken V is more of a take-out fast food joint. There are a few limited bar stools… I wouldn't recommend eating in… (See below! *wink*) plus, I think it's for patrons waiting for their food to be prepared. They have both Chinese & English menu, check your crave, pay and wait for your gym worthy munchies!
So I finally decided to sacrifice my work outfit (cuz we all know you're going home with that intense fried oil smell like a cheap perfume clinging onto you for dear life! Don't fret, laundry & shower! LOL
My kids really really really loved their 1) Taiwanese Popcorn chicken, 2) Salt & pepper squid legs and the 3) fried chicken wings… I think it was pretty good, the popcorn chicken were good bite size and full of flavor (not MSG.. Wow!). My fav is the salt & pepper squid legs! Enjoy that with a nice cold bottle of Stella! (Or your beer of choice, you're welcome – junk food buddies!). Their chicken wings were crispy, flavorful and can withstand taking it to go!
I wasn't sure about this whole Taiwanese popcorn chicken craze… But NOW I'm lovin' it! I've been here 3x… And Chicken V has made my weekend snack rotation!
Happy junk food feasting!
