  1. Great outdoor space that is full of "fun"

Came here on a nice sunny day and was remarkably surprised that this place existed in Brooklyn. I cannot comment on the food, because I consumed all of my calories in liquid form. The place has about 3-4 different frozen drunk slushies ($9). You can even request all of the flavors mixed together; I loved my mojito/piña colada/margarita mix.

There is a huge outdoor area, which is pretty kid-friendly. I kind of resembles a carnival of sorts.

The only annoying thing (a star deduction) is this place is Cash only. Cash only!!! What is this, 1983? There should be no reason that a restaurant with booze is cash only.

  2. Honestly Habana has high ratings because of the ambiance and crowd that frequently visits. The food is subpar and the drinks are watered down. I wish the food was a bit more authentic.

  3. I got pulled in by all the bright colors, Habana has such a fun set up! Ample outdoor seating, lights, bright colors, friendly staff, funky semi-outdoor bathrooms, a nice beer selection, Spanish music playing in the background. I felt like I had taken a turn somewhere and ended up in Miami. You order inside, then wait for your number to show up on a screen outside and collect your food.

The food was a little tame for me, I was expecting more bold flavors, more spice. The catfish sandwich is made with quality ingredients and is very filling, but the flavor is very mild. The pork and fish tacos were also similarly mild and calm in flavor. The pork was a little on the dry side, it needed some kind of sauce or just more salsa. But they did load the tacos up with onions which I love.

BUT- the shrimp tacos? Oh my god the shrimp tacos. These are five stars on their own and worth making the trip out for. The shrimp had to be some of the freshest I ever had, seasoned and grilled perfectly, tender, flavorful, spiced, oompf. I should have just ordered three of these. Wow.

  4. Who doesn't like Habana Outpost? Like, for real?

Whenever i'm in town, i'm all too happy to stuff myself with their rice and beans. Wrap it up nicely with a few cups of their spiked lemonade, and i'm good for an evening of shenanigans.

Their outdoor space is nice if you're looking to be social and loud; and their indoor space is good if you want a mellow space for a date or a nice chat with a friend.

Why not 5 stars? Cuz the germophobe in me won't let me live. The straw dispenser releases straws that are not wrapped, and no shade to the lovely young ladies manning the bar, but if you're handling money and whatever else, i don't need your albeit beautifully manicured but germy hands touching the top of my straw. Not exactly sanitary. In addition, while i realize that they're going for the whole cantina vibe, containers where all the patrons on the planet must stick their hands in to get their preferred forks and spoons just makes me think of all the superbugs that emerge like once a year and they're often traced back to some place where too many people are sharing too many germs.

So, if you can get past some of these aforementioned reservations and you're craving some Latin-inspired food in a jovial setting, Habana Outpost just might be the spot for you.

  5. Love the concept and idea. Fun and easy, low key. Nothing pretentious. You can bring your kids too. And of course the food is great.

  6. Such a fun, busy, vibrant place. Perfect for a hot summer day/night hangout. They have plenty of space both indoors and outdoors. Colorful decor and loud music makes, and most importantly, great frozen drinks make you feel like you're on a mini vacation.

Atmosphere: very casual and fun. Good for big groups.

    Drinks:
Frozen Margarita – fresh, fresh and fresh! Delightfully sour and quite sweet.
Frozen Mojito – minty taste is well infused. I liked it more than margarita.

    Food:
Grilled corn – it came out like warm, but the flavor was there. Not that impressive.
Chicken and Waffle on Stick – so good!! Well seasoned chicken wrapped in crispy waffle, drizzled with maple syrup. I could have six of these!

  7. This is a fun outdoor spot to sit outside and drink with friends.  You can chill and people watch to your hearts content. Also great for groups.

However, I have to say I feel like this place is coasting on its past glory, if it was ever considered glorious, when it comes to the actual food and drink.

    Guacamole – meh
Margarita – meh (especially for what tastes like a Walmart frozen mix)
Tacos – meh to decent, depending on what you order. I'm partial to the shrimp tacos.
    Corn – don't bother

I usually come here because someone else has invited me to a group outing – like a birthday. It's festive and cool for that.

  8. Great spot to have a frozen drink outside in the summer time. Their frozen margs, mojitos, pina coladas go for $9 a pop. I came here on a sunny Tuesday afternoon and it was half crowded. They serve food as well, which you order inside and wait for your number to show up on the board outside. Their battered fish taco was tasty but soggy – $3.25/each taco.
