This is a great dinner spot for large and small parties. There is ton of foot traffic on Friday nights which makes it a loud venue. So don't plan a romantic date here during the happy hours.
We ordered the empanadas which were good starters. However it isnt anything spectacular. I ordered the shredded beef stew for my main and my date ordered the skirt steak. Both dishes were filling but not really significant to write home to. We had tres leches cake which was delicious.
Servers were attentive. There was one clumsy young who server spilled a entire drink all over the floor. They cleaned it up right away though.
I have ordered delivery from this place and I am not sure it is worth it overall. The portions look a lot smaller when in take out containers and the beef stew comes without the fried plantains like cup and cooked plantains – FYI.
Perhaps for lunch, you can order the Cuban sandwich as the best bang for your buck!
Second time here, and still very delicious. Staff seemed a bit overwhelmed given the brunch crowd, so service was a bit slow this time, but the food was still great. For apps, we had the Cuban-style grilled shrimp (seasoned excellently), the Grilled sugarcane-skewered shrimp with rum glaze (pretty decent, sauce was a little sweet for my taste), and the fried calamari (not to breaded, good-sized calamari). For mains, I had the coffee-marinated skirt steak special which came with mashed sweet potatoes and asparagus. The steak was fantastic. My mother got the Mariscada seafood stew – a sampled quite a bit, plenty of seafood and the sauce was amazing. My dad had the chilean seabass, delicate and perfectly cooked. We tried to order the guava breadpudding with vanilla ice cream, but apparently they weren't ready yet. We opted for the tres leches and fried ice cream (healthy alternatives) – the fried ice cream was great, not too much batter, but loved the added cinnamon. the tres leches was super sweet, but still tasty.
All in all, good eats.
Though I had a wonderful time, I don't want to misalign an incredibly, high mark rating, with what was really an above average experience.
Upon arrival, my sisters, mom and I were seated immediately. We began with a Tropical Salad to share, that I didn't want to pass up with papaya, mango and sliced almonds. Though the salad called for a vinaigrette, I didn't want to risk it having mustard, and kindly asked our server, to pour in a separate dish. (Without inquiring, there was mustard). Which leads me to mention that, I'm a little tossed, since mustard is not a condiment that Spanish-speaking Caribbean countries use. But no biggie, we worked with the salad undressed and used some of the mojito from
the yuca fries. Our cocktails, were nicely made and my Passion Fruit cocktail was sweet and strong.
My family's dishes appeared nicely done. Two of my sisters and my mom, had a chicken and beef dishes and claim they were tasty. My salmon on the other hand, was good, to say the most. Throughout our early dinner, service was friendly, organized and atmosphere was nice.
Overall, food at Madera is freshly prepared, except…..for the Tres Leche cake that we also shared for my Pre-Birthday celebration. Though the cake was tasty with the '3 milks', it was rock hard, I didn't want to loose a tooth, it was low quality and had way-y-y too much frosting— it's supposed to be velvety! But, I'm sure, that there may be better Tres Leche alternatives elsewhere.
All in all, like I said, I had a good experience with my family, but it didn't give me an impact and I can't go past the 3 and-a-half stars.
This place is amazing! I stopped by yesterday for happy hour and might have had one too many mojitos..oops! One of the best mojitos I've had, and only $5 or $6 during happy hour! After a few drinks, my friend and I decided to get empanadas. Holy f*ck, they were awesome. He also got the tres leches cake which was incredible. Bartender was super friendly and never left us with an empty glass! Can't wait to go back for dinner! Restaurant is super cute inside too!
Madera Cuban Grill & Steakhouse boasts a wonderful and fresh atmosphere that's perfect for dining. Located in Long Island City, this restaurant can be found alongside a slew of other wonderful pubs, restaurants and bars. Our friends suggested this place, and I basically can't say no to Cuban food!
Each of us ordered different dishes, but I have to say that I was a fan of their Madera style chicken which was breaded and seasoned with paprika and herbs. It was unique and I can honestly say that I've never had chicken done like this before. They are also popular for their skirt steak, which is very delicious depending on how you order it. Seafood options are also healthy and taste amazing. Be sure to order your entrees with the rice and beans!
Definitely would recommend this place to anyone that is in LIC that is in the mood for great Cuban cuisine.
Live music, great food, I felt like I was back in Europe! It was a group of 4 and we had the Lechon asado con mojo criollo, Grandma's porkchops, and Madera Style Steak. I absolutely loved all of em. It went well with our red sangria. Parking was a bit tricky but, well worth to trip over here for some good food and environment. This would be the summers hangout. Mainly cause there's bars all around.
I need to review this place before I forget…
Man we were starving- we didn't eat dinner we ran out directly from work to go hear Bernie Sanders speak at Hunters Point park south (which was WOW) and so we were really hungry after running from blocks away to the park. Man I was so happy to see this place it was like a mirage from 2 blocks down.
When you walk in there are friendly faces, a low key local vibe and nice clean cozy urban design that seems to have made really good use of the space. It was not loud either I had no problem hearing myself think.
My husband and I both ordered the grilled skirt steak with white rice and beans. I also got a salad and an order of fried yuca.
It took some time to come out but everything was really good. Their chimichurri was on point too. I loved the entire meal. My daughter got a grilled chicken sandwich with avocado on it and that also looked great. My husband had about 3 coronas and the bill came to about $90 for the three of us.
We met some other people there at the bar who were ordering all kinds of cool looking libations. Looks like a good bar for drinks and conversation if you live in the area.
All in all this was a perfect spot for a meal to end a great evening for sure. I love the neighborhood too…will be back to explore and review more. NY is the best place on earth to eat. Glad we found this place.
I think the other reviews were fair on this place…..
good atmosphere
good service
good drinks and food
Pricing structure was for GREAT not good. But in their defense….if you wanted to eat cheaper you could with less expensive items on the menu. I would go back.
