Zutto Japanese American Pub
“The pork belly was BULGING out of the soft white pillowy buns and were redonks amazing.”
“I'm not a pork bun connoisseur and probably get them once every few months, but honestly they were just as tasty as Ippudo's buns.”
“-They do honor the free Asahi draft with your Yelp check in (and cheerfully so) so don't forget!”

Ya'll tripping if you guys think this spot is better than Ippudo. I have no idea how this place claims to be better than Ippudo so I had to try it myself. I refused to believe that there's a spot that has better ramen and pork buns than Ippudo.
I honestly thought this spot was overrated. Ramen, sushi, and pork buns all in one menu? Sounds good right? Blah…. All of us ordered ramen and their pork buns and thought it wasn't anything special. The flavor was very bland and we spent over $120+ between 4 people and I personally thought it was a waste.
One thing that pissed me off the most was when we all ordered Jameson all around but when we got the drinks, we felt like it was super old because you can literally taste it.
I'd pass on this joint. Ippudo all day!
Very good selection of ramen here. But that's not just what I love about this place! It has a good hype too – bar food type of appetizers, good drinks, some sushi/sashimi, ramen, fried rice and buns. All of them are pretty solid!
Appetizers:
buffalo cauliflower wings, and buns are my favorite! Fried cauliflower dipped in one of the best buffalo sauce I have had…. one bite! It is amazing with a sip of sake/cocktail.
Sushi/sashimi: fresh and yummy
Main dishes:
Fried rice is delicious, and all ramens have great flavors, thick soup but weak noodles.
I came here with my aunt and cousin, expecting to taste good food due to the reviews. My hometown is LA and I thought that LA and NY were pretty equal in terms of food. I am not the type to give 2 stars on Yelp but I felt like I wasted my money coming here. We got their duck ramen, pork buns, and one of their salads. To summarize all of the dishes, they were meh. Nothing special. I've definitely tasted better, especially for the price. It was a bummer because it was my last dinner out before flying back home.
Zutto fancies itself a "Japanese American Pub". Not really sure what that means. I suppose it's kind of a bar. But didn't really get an American vibe from it. That said, the food was still great.
They have all of the classic Japanese food you'll find in NY – ramen, pork buns, sushi, and some other raw dishes.
For starters, we did the buns – pork belly and panko miso cod. I liked the pork belly more just because I'm a sucker for pork belly, but the fish was good too for you pescatarians out there.
For my main, I did the spicy miso ramen with an egg add-on. Noodles were springy. The broth was thick-ish and spicy. I was a fan.
I'm not a big dessert person, but their bread pudding wasn't bad. And it was served a la mode, which is never a mistake.
Love the decor and the atmosphere. Staff was super friendly. Service was quick.
Oh and yes, they also have Japanese whiskeys. And they are delicious.
3.5 I'm generally quite skeptical of asian fusion cuisine, but Zutto is a super solid restaurant in TriBeCa with pretty decent food and cozy + trendy ambiance. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here unless I'm already in the neighborhood as there are too many other Asian restaurants that have left a deeper impression on me.
IMPORTANT: get your free Sapporo beer with a check-in.
My friend and I shared 4 small dishes and 1 sushi (total ~$30/person)
Shishito peppers – Delicious. They don't seem very spicy initially but believe me, the spice will escalate after a couple of bites.
Zutto pork belly buns – 2 very large buns. The flavors were decent, nothing mind-blowing, just pretty much what you would expect from a standard pork belly bun.
Soy garlic chicken wings – Who can say no to wings? I do wished the flavor was stronger though.
Silken tofu served with shiitake mushrooms – I loved this dish! The tofu was fried on the outside and silky on the inside.
Tempura sushi – Nothing special, typical westernized sushi.
This portion of food left us comfortably full. If you don't know how much to order, just order as you go because the food comes out very quickly.
And as a final note, I avoided the ramen because after being spoiled by all the other AMAZING specialty ramen shops in the city, I didn't have faith in an Asian fusion restaurant with an extensive menu to do ramen right. Stick with the apps and shareable dishes, and you will likely avoid disappointment as well.
This was quite a trendy ramen place. We came here at 7pm on a Saturday night, and there was no wait. Service was great, and food was delicious. I got the duck ramen. The meat was not as lean as I expected, but overall it was really good. Also, you get a free beer for checking in. =]
The steamed buns were a hit with our group of 3. I ordered the pork buns with kimchi. SO GOOD. I could have ordered another plate. The buns themselves were fluffy and fresh too.
The fried rock shrimp plate was also a pretty good deal. For $9 you get a shareable bowl of perfectly fried shrimp coated in a sweet and savory sauce.
As for the lento sake….it was gross. I couldn't even finish it. I generally enjoy sake but this particular one tasted like rubbing alcohol. Avoid this $8 drink.
Other than that. The service was polite, the food was delicious, and there was no wait to get seated!
Ordered take out and was pleasantly surprised. Order came within 30 minutes and the sushi was really fresh and good quality.
Maryland roll, salmon crunch roll, spicy salmon/avo/cucumber, and yellowtail jalapeño are all recommended. The rock shrimp was soggy but the sushi was so good that it made up for it!
