The best part of this restaurant was the view. You had a great view of east side of NYC. I'm not much of a suishi person but the chicken teriyaki was good.
The reservations increased as the week went on and Shi accommodated our large group of 8.
Nice waiting area inside with a small bar, bartenders were friendly.
The waitstaff at Shi is outstanding, very attentive. Everything we ordered came very quickly and was fantastic.
Not a big restaurant so make sure you make reservations at least a week in advance to secure a time.
The food was fantastic, everything was tasty, sushi was great.
None of us had any complaints with our orders, we will be back soon!!!
3.5 Stars.
The view from my dinner table was absolutely stunning at night. Along with the beautiful chandeliers that hung above me and the cocktails that I had already consumed pre-arrival, this place was amazingly beautiful to me. The indoor ambiance is dark, romantic, and trendy (but simplistically so). The lychee martini that I ordered was so so so good! (And I've had a boatload of different lychee martinis here and there.) It actually might be the best lychee martini I've ever had compared to TAO.
The service was very friendly, and the waiters seemed to know how to serve but also not be too clingy (which I enjoy).
If it was based on these two things alone, my rating would be a definite 5 stars. However, the food is mediocre for the price. Although I wouldn't say this place is extremely pricey, I think the quality of the food is just subpar. I had the salmon tartare, chicken satay, chirashi, raw octopus in wasabi, the green curry prawns, and the fried asian noodles. Nothing amazingly impressed me food-wise. Everything tasted as it should taste, but not better.
If you ever come here (and I say do come at 9-10ish for the stunning view outside), drink some deliciously shaken lychee martinis, eat some of the appetizers, and soak in the view.
Great food, tentative service, good vibes and an amazing view. This place is affordable, yet trendy with tables for dining and couches for lounging. The couches and sofas are great for getting drinks with the crew, while the tables are great for dining. The big windows will give you a perfect view of the NYC skyline. On warmer days you can sit outside in the back along the waterfront. Inside decorate include dark wood, chandeliers, Asian decor, and music.
My fav apps here are the cold sesame noodles, the crab Rangoon, and the pork pot stickers. I would recommend getting a couple of sushi rolls to share, the gantry, and maybe a few regular rolls. As a party of three we ordered pineapple fried rice, orange chicken, and mango shrimp and chicken. We shared all the dishes and had some to take home. Molten lava cake for dessert was a great choice! The staff sang happy birthday to my sister and made a really presentation on the dish saying "happy birthday."
Make a reservation and give yourself time to find parking.
Spicy Tuna wrapped in white and regular tuna!! And Tomago for my sweet tooth. Also everything fried rice is excellent!!
Came here on a Saturday night with the guys, on Jan. 3. It's become somewhat of a tradition after NYE for the past three years, one such tradition we informed the owner, SHI. A guys night out on a cold, windy New York Night. SHI was the perfect spot. Mike, Leo and I sat on the sofas like kings and ordered away. The drinks selected were the Whiskey Smash for the 2 and Lychee Martini for myself. Lychee martini is a must try!!! Great drink. Amongst the revelry and the laughs, the gracious owner decided to have a shot with us and the drink of choice was none other than Jack Honey. Perfect choice of alcohol and sweetness. Goes down smoothly, thanks SHI!. The rest of the night was accompanied by the great food. The regulars of the calamari and fried cauliflower. Tuna tartare , Pineapple fried rice and steak cubes. If it ain't broken, don't fix it. The tradition shall go on.
Sat outside for the incredible city views.. Ordered a Kani salad to start which was very good but I have had their bacon wrapped shrimp in prior dinners which is superb and definitely a must have at this place.. Ordered the chicken hot pepper sauce and peanuts and was short of licking the plate.. I recommend putting the peppers to the side.. Great atmosphere and service as well
My sweetheart surprised me for our date night and brought me here. He tried making reservations earlier in the day, but they didn't have anything available until 10:30pm. That's way too late for anyone, so he politely declined. They told him that he could take a chance by coming in to see if there's any openings.
We arrived around 8pm. The hostess asked if we made reservations. She advised us that there would be a 40 minute wait. She suggested either sitting at the bar or waiting area. We opted for the bar where we were greeted with a huge smile and their drink selections.
We started off with the Banging Martini which was way too citrusy. It overpowered the Peach Ciroc and Guava Nectar. Ten minutes passed by and the hostess walks up to the bartender to tell her that our table was ready.
Tables are awfully close in proximity. We overheard an entire conversation throughout our meal. It probably didn't help that the girl was coughing up a storm and speaking rather loudly on her phone.
We started with the Kani Salad and Crab Rangoon as our apps. I didn't enjoy either dish. The salad was drenched in mayo and the Rangoon tasted like it came out of a Traders Joe freezer. We switched our drinks to the Lychee and Pear Martini, both rather tasty, but lacked the potency I was looking for.
Entrees included the pineapple fried rice and beef with asparagus. He enjoyed his rice. My entree came out wrong. I called over the waitress to let her know. She examined my dish and tried to convince me that the dish in front of me was correct. I cook with asparagus all of the time. There's no way zucchini and asparagus look similar.
Besides I wasn't interested in the mushrooms, chestnuts, and carrots they used for garnish. I just wanted my beef and asparagus. Eventually my dish was replaced with apologies for the mixup. It was delicious with the right amount of heat I was looking for.
We ended our night with Chocolate Lava Cake which was simply diving, but rather small. I will be back for the ambiance and the beautiful view overlooking Manhattan.
