This is the most perfect, cozy coffee shop! This place is absolutely adorable, with plenty of tables to relax, do some work, or have your monthly book club meeting. I was surprised that on a Saturday morning around 11am that there were plenty of tables available – a refreshing change from the over-crowded, noisy Manahttan coffee shop culture these days.
The decor is classic and charming – you feel as though you were in someone's living room. The staff is friendly, and another plus is that the food and drink is absolutely delicious!
Loove the super calm vibe here. Perfect for a lazy brunch, coffee or tea. The decor reminded me of a weed coffee shop in Amsterdam! The dirty kitty was awesome, as was the chicken panini with salad! The girls working there were chill and helpful. Loved it!!
Location: it's at the lower east side neighborhood.. very hipster..
their decoration is very antique.. including some photographs on the wall, some old furnitures…
My suggest to fellow yelpers who enjoy a cup of joe for a coffee break, is that this is not a great place for coffee.. but their latte seems nice.
I did not try latte, only went for a cup of coffee.
Lousy coffee is my accurate description of their coffee characteristics.
And the people who work there are loud.. i am not say that's bad but it is definitely not an ideal place for study. Maybe bring your coworker and discuss some interesting stories is a perfect idea to come here.
One thing worth mentioned is that I think Black Cat L.E.S. is dope because while i was sitting there, I saw two movie producers discusss their new movies (something involved with Megan Fox) and two movie stars… what a day.
Overall: I might come back just because it's close to where my bootcamp is..
But if you are living far far away, this place is not your best choice.
There was a "Help Wanted" sign in the window… and it was clear how badly they needed it.
The main barista/cashier person was amazing. There was another girl there for support, but she was only taking on light orders. So, a bulk of the work was falling on one person on a busy Sunday morning. I'm a human being & I've been in customer service my whole life, so I understood that she was trying her absolute best for one barista. I could see her wanting to remain upbeat and focused, but one person can only do so much. (I always wonder why management never steps up to help in these situations…..anyway….)
So for that reason, I guess I have to share that my apple oatmeal was 15 minutes late, but when it did arrive it was SO GOOD. I also had a chocolate chai, equally to die for. I thought about ordering a Dirty Kitty while I was working & finished the chai, but, I didn't want to get back in the line. I also spilled a good amount of my drink because my table was uneven, but I wasn't about to ask for more or for help with assistance in cleaning it up.
The ambiance is so cozy that I stayed there for almost 3 hours. Oops. It's got this fun feel of your grandmother's living room – mismatched chairs, knickknacks all around. You can even sit at a piano. Very cool concept.
So I'm leaving this lackluster review because that was my experience. But, I'm actually looking forward to my second visit, with more staff to make that poor girl a little less stressed out. I'll probably leave a much higher rating…and try that Dirty Kitty that everyone's talking about!
Cute cafe and their coffee is always so fresh.
They have a table set up for you to add just what you like to your coffee ( from soy milk to half and half; Splenda, honey, or sugar).
Staff is friendly!
The decor is cute and it's such a chill place for anyone who might have a first date or would come to study (free wifi).
Black Cat has a grotty feel, suitable for the LES.
The dark cave cottage atmosphere can be a little stuffy but it still manages to have a homey charm.
At 730am around opening time the cafe still wasn't set up and service was slow. "I'm glad I'm not the only one who's sleepy." I humoured.
"Are you accusing us of not being awake?" The young manager backfired.
"Well, I wasn't complaining,"
"You guys got any food available now?"
"Bagels and quiche…" I was told.
"How much for the quiche?"
"$5." She stated. Ok. Spinach and goat cheese.
It's really hard to find breakfast or coffee for that matter early in LES.
"It's actually $6.50." she corrected.
For being prefrozen the quiche tasted good with a flaky buttery crust. However I had to wait awhile to get it. "Can I get my coffee now?" I had to ask as they were warming up the quiche.
I actually like the dark dingy basement feel of Black Cat. It's spooky in a good way. Quirky and clean enough. It's perhaps not a bargain, or the beat coffee around but it works.
A for atmosphere
B+ for buttery food
C+ for awkward client relations
= Moody wake up
Goes good with preplanning apocalypse conversations.
Good coffee spot with tons of seating. They offer WiFi for customers only. Feel free to sit as long as you like to get some work done and they have multiple wall outlets to charge your eletronics.
This is my new favorite ny coffee shop. I found it on yelp, while I was looking for one with good coffee and an atmosphere more cozy than your regular trendy minimalist style shops.
I'm convinced the guy at the counter got my order wrong and gave me a Turkish coffee (they call it a mud coffee) instead of the mocha I ordered, but either way it was very good. There was a Orange, citrus-y aftertaste. Even the friend I brought with me to try it said his plain black coffee was really good.
I see myself coming back to meet up with friends again and also doing my own thing there. I highly recommend it.
