  1. I came here for a birthday party. Was upstairs and I would say that space probably fits about 40+ people. The main floor was pretty happening as well. Cocktails are about $13 so can't say they're cheap. Overall thought it was your standard LES bar. Didn't blow me away.

  2. Norman's Cay is new in the old Interstate spot with a focus on Bahamian and Caribbean seafood. It's from the owners of The Grey Lady, the Nantucket seafood 'shack' a couple blocks away. They have a fun cocktail list; the Rum Dum was well, rummy, and probably more worth the $13 price tag than a Dark and Stormy. I tried the conch fritters which were denser than the ones I ate in The Bahamas (but still good) and served with some tasty sauces. They had a swordfish kebab special which was served like most of their Mains menu, with roti bread and pico de gallo and other sauces. This and the chicken were moist and well-marinated. I could see myself trying the whole snapper next time.

I would definitely come here for a full dinner again but might also just get small bites and cocktails at the bar and marvel at the Cessna hanging overhead. I'm excited to see how their menu evolves and try some of the ceviche selections next time.

  3. This review is only for the bar portion: it's narrow so I only recommend for a smaller group. The inside is a cute nautical type theme and seems like it attracts a good crowd.

  4. The portion sizes here were atrociously small, but I'll give it to Norman's Cay for the atmosphere and drinks.

All the cocktails had a tropical flair! My favorites were:

    – Dark and Stormy: admittedly it's hard to mess up these up
    – Bourbon Smuggler: bourbon and ginger beer – my two favorite things!
    – Sky Juice: I generally avoid gin drinks but the coconut juice made it bearable

The only food stand-out was the guac – which was served with plantain and yuca chips (for all the gluten-free peeps).  I also split fish and beef tacos with my friend (two tacos per order). The beef tacos were just bad; the fish had a great, spicy sauce.
The lion fish dish was slight appalling – just white matter on a plate (not poor tasting but still…). Ironically, one person in our group ordered a salad which ended up being too large to finish.

I'm so coming back here in the summer for those drinks!

  5. I went there yesterday with 2 other friends.  The cocktails were fine, (we got the watermelon mojito) the food and service? Meh not so much.  We ordered the app sampler to share. It took FOREVER (and they weren't busy) by the time we got our apps they were an odd mix of ice cold and burn your mouth hot. It also came with an assortment of sauces, no explanation of what the sauces were or what they were for.   The wait staff was overly attentive, it was really almost like stalking. I don't know if they were training someone—if that was case they should have just said so–but they came in pairs every time.  We also ordered the "Summer Special" as our meal. The ribs and wings were tasty and hot, but the rice and peas were  bland and tasteless. Not good. Worst part was they asked us to leave because they wanted the table. Are you serious? Not the worst place I've ever been, but not worth going back to. Our feeling is exactly what rating says. "Meh. I've experienced better."

  6. Airplane on the ceiling, good music, hot girls, actually a friendly bartender (even if he looked like a hipster and had an "edge").  I enjoyed this place when I went…not sure I could ever find it again though…sort of one of those "buried on a side street downtown" type places.
