AMBIANCE: rustic, dim, booths and/or tables, clean.
LOCATION: easy access, by a subway line. Looked to be street parking
SERVICE: good service, friendly, not as efficient as it could have been but we were not in any rush
FOOD: I came for bbq so I tried their brisket, sausage, wings, mac&cheese, fried rice, and deviled eggs. They were all delicious. For NYC I was impressed. Not the best bbq I've ever had, but decent and would be a good craving choice. Deviled eggs were interesting and I would get them again since that was a unique item for a bbq place. The fried rice used bits of BBQ and was also good and interesting.
PRICING: overall, the price matched the quality and service you receive. It was not overpriced and looks to be at a good field for all come and goers.
Pretty good barbecue! I had the "Memphis chop" brisket sandwitch and found it tasty, and my dining companions enjoyed the pulled pork and ribs. Sides were good, but nothing to write home about. There was a good beer list, which made the long wait at the bar more bearable. The service was reasonably good.
The bathrooms were pretty bad, though.
A very solid BBQ option, everything done well but nothing exceptional.
Tres Ninos: great deal with a sample of the 3 must haves at any bbq joint: ribs, brisket, pulled pork, includes two side and cornbread. Again, I'll reiterate, for a bbq joint everything was solid and acceptable but I can't say anything stood out.
Wing: I usually don't get them, but I'm quite glad I got these and for $3 extra, you get two side and cornbread….a steal. I only go the chipotle-garlic and by were some of the best wings I've had lately, burstin' with flavor and SPICY.
Sides: I tried the bbq fried rice, syracuse fried potatoes, beans, mac and cheese. And like the meats, all sides were solid but no standouts.
OVERALL: best bbq option up north. everything good and less pricey than the downtown/bk joints.
We came on a weekday around 7:30 and were seated right away. The music was too loud for us to catch up with each other, but the food was really excellent.
My husband and I split the 'Sweet heart deal,' which is a full rack of ribs, four sides, and cornbread. The ribs were good, the sides were excellent. Thinking about them makes my mouth water. We got the salt potatoes (amazing), mac and cheese (super cheesy, super yummy), baked beans (I couldn't stop eating them), and potato salad (I would probably not get this again, but it was still good, just not as shockingly delicious as the others).
Our service was pretty slow, which is why I'm only giving it four stars. We only got our water filled twice the entire time we were there and our check took ages and ages to come.
I will drive all the way to Harlem from Jersey City just for the garlic chipotle wings, corn bread, and the potato balls. oh my god! This particular location is way better than the one in Newark, NJ.
The one thing I do not like about this place is the wait. Although it's a pretty big place with plenty of tables, I've always had an average of about an hour wait. Make sure you come when you're mildly hungry because you will be "hangry" by the time you get seated. They do not take reservations as well. The other thing I don't like about this location is the parking. It's located in a rather weird intersection right by the Westside highway so you'll have to find parking further away from the establishment.
The food however compensates for the cons above. The chicken is meaty, flavorful, and juicy. The sauce is slathered on and just incase that's not enough, they have a bottle on the table for you as well. I contemplated on stealing this bottle plenty of times. I've tried the ribs, briskets, and Mac and cheese as well and those did not disappoint. However, the chicken and the potatoes are a must. I ordered the rum punch as my cocktail and they served it in a nice mason jar. That was really good too.
I highly recommend this place. It's worth the wait. The staff is attentive and friendly. It's super clean. The kitchen is an open space so you'll see and smell all of the goodness. It's also a diverse crowd of people which I love.
We ordered catering and the food arrived right on time. The bbq chicken is flavorful, smokey and tender. The pulled chicken is tender and juicy with just the right amount of sauce. The brisket is super tender and juicy and literally melts in your mouth with smokey flavor. The roasted veggie orzo is also solid and the Mac and cheese is creamy and cheesy. Portions are generous. We ordered the 3 meats option for 10 and it easily fed 15 with plenty of leftovers. Definitely a must try.
My main issue with this place was that for some reason, I forced myself to finish my meal which exceeded the capacity of my stomach.
Otherwise, it was a great experience.
We made reservations and arrived early. We went to the bar for a few drinks and were seated promptly at our reservation time.
We ordered a few appetizers including garlic chipotle chicken wings, deviled eggs, and grilled shrimp. The wings in particularly were quite good.
For my main, I had the 3 item combo, including the brisket, pulled pork and ribs. For sides, I had the mac and cheese and potato balls. The BBQ was solid and I had no complaints about them. The potato balls, however, weren't anything to write home about. Everyone else seemed to enjoy them, though.
Our server was friendly and the food came out at a reasonable pace.
Overall, it was a solid meal. I would definitely come back in the future.
This place is the best bbq joint in all of NYC no matter what anyone says believe the hype. Be prepared to wait especially in the evening time for dinner. The wait is about 45 minutes to an hour and the place is big. They have a great food selection and while you wait to be seated you can go to the bar and enjoy some great drinks. I really enjoyed their sampler dish loved the ribs must come back here for sure
