Elbow Room Brooklyn

“I had small bites of the Old School Mac and the Mushroom Mac as well (both of which were very good), but I'd highly recommend trying the vegan mac if you want something a little different!”

“It's just a few blocks away from the Barclays Center.”

“Some of the combos are better than others, but it's a tough scale since some are just so good.”

  1. Different location, but still some great Mac & Cheese.

This location is just a booth with very limited seating outside. Probably because it is getting cold out. It's just a few blocks away from the Barclays Center.

I love eating Mac & Cheese!!!

My favorite Mac & Cheese to order from Elbow Room is the Mushroom Mac- Crimini mushroom, spinach, Vermont Gruyere, and Crispy shallots. I think this is the best Mac & Cheese that Elbow Room has. Everything in it goes well in the Mushroom Mac. Good amount of spinach and mushroom, but it doesn't overpower the mac. Just the right amount of cheese. Crispy shallots on top really makes the mushroom Mac really good. Let's just say I downed that pretty quickly.

Elbow Room only serves in one size now. I think they retain the medium size cup.

Elbow Room has added some new Mac & Cheese to the menu. They added the Meatball Mac and a Jamaican Jerk Mac. Their Mac of the day was a vegan Mac. Maybe I'll try them one day.

  2. After over a year of living a short walk from here, I finally seized the moment and gave their delicious sounding Mac and cheese a taste. I ordered their old school mac (closest to a traditional Mac and cheese) to go and picked up 15 minutes later. Yum yum yum.  Very delicious and creamy and included bechamel–a favorite of mine! At first glance the portion seemed small for the cost ($8ish) but I was full and satisfied when done. It's a shared space/restaurant with Morgan's BBQ so next yum I'll probably give the meats a taste!

Definitely a must try for Mac n cheese lovers!

  3. I love the idea of the joint mac and cheese/BBQ restaurants, but they still need to work out some kinks. Both restaurants tried to serve us and take our orders, which got a little awkward.

I was already a fan of Elbow Room in Newark, so the food wasn't a big shock for me. The Vegan Queso, as always, was brilliant. Try it!

  4. I've wanted to try this place forever but am never in Newark or the Barclays Center, so I was very excited to see that there is now a new walk-up counter location right next to Morgan's Barbecue in Prospect Heights.

I was going for some barbecue at Morgan's, so when I spotted this, it helped me easily make my decision on a side for the delicious food there: the mac & cheese from here.

They have a choice of 8 different types of Mac & Cheese, ranging from the simple, classic kind, to the insanely overwhelming (e.g. Poutine Mac, which consists of short rib gravy, yukon french fries and cheese curds).

I went somewhere toward the latter category and tried the Cheeseburger Mac, which, just like it sounds, consists of the ingredients for a cheeseburger mixed in with mac & cheese: grass-fed beef, dill pickles and American cheese. This is a really delicious combo. There is a bunch of unnecessary and healthy lettuce on top, to continue with the cheeseburger conceit, so once you get rid of that, the real fun begins – there is a ton of great ground beef under the thick top layer of American cheese. It's piping hot and cheesy and delicious.

They have one size only for $7, which is a pretty massive tub of mac & cheese. It's very overwhelming as a side, but is probably satisfying enough for a small meal. Still, the location of the counter is perfect, and it has shared seating with the benches outside of Morgan's right next door. This is a great combo, and it makes me wonder if anybody every actually gets the mac & cheese from Morgan's since the specialty flavors here are so much more interesting.

Given that I thoroughly enjoyed the excellent barbecue next door (yelp.com/biz/morgans-bro…), I would definitely return and get a way too large side of another one of the great varieties of mac & cheese here to complement/overwhelm my meal.

  5. Mushroom Mac & cheese- amazing! This made our meal when dining at Morgans BBQ, that this is a part of. The flavours really work. I would order just a pot of Mac & cheese to go!

  6. The bright spot in a mediocre meal at Morgan's.

I had the Chicken tinga mac and cheese. The flavors and textures worked very well together. It was a small container though. Decent, but not anything to go out of your way for.

  7. Grrrrrrrls, let's talk about this macmac right here at this joint. Super scrumptious. Decently portioned, the two times I've been here, I've taken half home with me. The last time I came here I got the chili-cheese fries app. ORDER THIS. ORDER IT NOW. It's Texan-style chili people and they don't fuck it up. Seriously, the best chili-cheese fries I've had in years. The cheeseburger mac is fantastic, as is the chicken tinga. Good for meat eaters and veggies alike. Not sure about you vegans tho–considering the rampant cheese mounds on everything and the butter you know is lurking in every elbow noodle crevice.
