Oceana

“Going there, I had the salmon and oysters (not together) which were both fantastic, and their wine list is great also.”

“The Michelin star is well deserved but I'll dock Oceana one star for the somewhat rushed service which felt a tad mechanical at times.”

“Food: We ordered one of the RAW SEAFOOD TOWER called the Rock (see pic), which was a good deal, fresh and tasty-love the sauces btw.”

  1. I have been there twice for business lunches, never impressed. Food is good but for the price you expect something exceptional. Lunch entrees run @ 30-40$ each plus sides. Upscale atmosphere of you want to impress customers or a date but else not worth the price.

  2. Absolutely AMAZING lobster roll for lunch! At $23, I would hope so too.

The lobster salad was not overly creamy and the mixture is just very light and fresh. Over a square ciabatta bread, which gave the sandwich a slightly sweet taste. The portion size is just perfect for a light lunch, but probably not enough for those that eat slightly more.

  3. Dined here with a large group on a Friday night. We had the private room in the back right reserved. We were lead to our room as soon as we arrived where the bar staff was ready to go with drinks and appetizers. Passed sushi lobster rolls, Peruvian style ceviche and prosciutto arancini were spot on! There was ample seating for our group, our first course were the jumbo lump crab cakes that were outstanding! They were shaped more like egg rolls and lightly breaded, but they were so good! They came with a wasabi lime sauce for dipping that everyone enjoyed. For the main course I had the filet mignon with seared polenta cake and a red wine morel jus, it says the steak was served medium but mine was over, I didn't send it back however, as I mentioned I was with a large group and didn't want to make a fuss about it. I did notice two people in our group send their steaks back as their steaks were over cooked as well. Everyone who ordered the roasted cod with black bean vinaigrette said it was delicious, people enjoyed the salmon as well. The dessert was the cheesecake with gingerbread, the cheesecake was pretty good, but probably not something I would order again though.

Overall the service was great, Stephanie, the event coordinator was excellent. She was always available to answer any of my questions during the planning process and was so helpful.

Service during our event was spot on, the bartenders were attentive and constantly refilling wine tableside, the appetizers were passed around thoroughly and the atmosphere was so enjoyable. The room we had was gorgeous, there was a large decorated Christmas tree in it and the white tablecloths made it really elegant.

  4. I came here with a work group for the first for happy hour and it was way better then I expected. I work across the street so it is one of those places that I always thought, eh I'll make it there I work across the street let me try somewhere else. Sure enough it took a few years but I made it! The selection of appetizers and drinks were great and everything came out hot and fresh. They do get busy during after work hours as well as lunch from what I can see through the windows, but it is a great, classy spot to gather with work colleagues. It is expensive but tasty all the same. I would recommend the shishito peppers, oyster selection, pork buns, fish tacos, pretty much everything!

  5. I dine here every few weeks and always order The Rock seafood tower for two. It has oysters, clams, mussels, escargot, shrimp and 3 tartars. I love the sauces that accompany the tower especially the passionfruit infusion.  It is on my list of best seafood towers in the city and never disappoints.

In terms of wine, the Sancerre and Chablis are my favorite whites.   The souffles are made fresh and the Chocolate Layer Trifecta is delicious.  It is a pretty dessert with chocolate cake, toffee crunch and chocolate crémeux.  Order gelato on the side to make it a dream come true.  I recommend the vanilla chai and praline flavors which come with shortbread bites.  Attentive service, nice managers and classy decor.

  6. Arriving for an early pre-theater dinner through the revolving doors I felt like I was transported to the set of American Psycho. I swear I saw a group of high finance types comparing and contrasting business cards while sitting at a table near the bar. Luckily the rest of the evening didn't go that way as the hostess seated us promptly in the large dining room away from the den of the Wolves of Wall Street.

Our server Lana provided excellent service and advice all night long. The menu can be daunting especially with the various unfamiliar oyster names from around the country. She suggested three contrasting types with the Kahreen Passage ones from Alaska being our faves, The local Naked Cowboy (where do they get these names?) and the Standish from MA being the largest I've ever seen! The Vaucheron Sancerre complimented these nicely. At $8 a pop the colossal shrimp were tasty, but out shined by the oysters so probably not worth the price of admission.

Lana also suggested an order for our dishes which we shared – we went with the heirloom tomato app, which the kitchen split the portions for us (no need to fight over the last piece). I thought the tomatoes could have been served a little more towards room temp instead of chilled to bring out the flavors more, but perhaps that's just me. Very good overall.

We shared scallops a la plancha which were impeccably browned – simple and straight forward how I prefer my seafood. The romanesco sauce served on the side was interesting and worked with the sweetness of the scallop, but a bit overpowering. I preferred the scallops straight – with a hit of lemon. The house made cavetelli was served with baby octopus, oven-dried tomato pesto, parmigiano reggiano – all very good, but I felt the octopus while tender was overpowered by the tomato pesto.

We went for 2 desserts because we couldn't decide – the caramel chocolate tart edged out the Milk Chocolate Chai Tea Parfait for a delicious end to a fantastic summer meal.

Yes, it can be pricey, but that raw bar! Damn! Some of the best oysters we had all year and perhaps ever. Stick with straight forward preparations of the seafood and a good wine to make for a great night and experience!

  7. Came here for a sponsored dinner. The food was good, but honestly I've had better seafood at stands by the ocean in Maine (obvi!).

It's an upscale place, good for the after-work or work lunch crowd. Not really my scene, but who can say no to a free dinner?!

  8. Yum…we stopped in here for lunch in between business meetings!  I enjoyed the simple grilled salmon with a side of vegetables – fresh, healthy and really good.  The restaurant is sleek and bright, the service is professional and the food is high quality.  Definitely worth stopping in for lunch or dinner.
