When I walked around the park, most of the food stand sell the hot dog. This is different so I give it a try. The wafel would be a good choice when taking a rest.
Having enjoyed a 'Brussels Wafels' in Belgium it was super nice to be able to return to the experience here US. The carts offer a quirky experience to a number of great options for ordering a wafel. I have tried the belgian chocolate fudge, the nutella, and the spekuloos all as one single dinges on a wafel on different occasions and all of them were simply great.
If you follow them on Facebook (or Twitter I assume) they seem to have a daily challenge where you can get a free dinges upon ordering. The carts do not seem to be fully up to speed with the challenges but if you put in the effort and have fun they will know what you are trying to do.
On the edge of Central Park sits Wafels & Dinges. My husband LOVES waffles and ice cream, so as soon as I spotted the cart, I knew we would be stopping there. He ordered the basic with waffles and vanilla ice cream, which cost $6 (which I thought wasn't bad for NYC). The waffle and serving of ice cream were decently-sized. They have a lot of business, and it is a crowded area, so they make the waffles ahead of time and then heat them for the order. While I understand that this is a necessity, a reheated waffle is never as good as a fresh waffle- sorry.
The waffle had good flavor and was presented nicely. It probably would have knocked my socks off had it been made freshly instead of sitting out (for Lord only knows how long in the humid summer heat) and then being reheated.
This truck makes your sinful Belgian dreams come true. Needless to say, I was more than ecstatic upon learning there was a place to get real Belgian waffles in NYC. After having been separated from a good waffle since summer of 2008 when I visited Belgium, I had been searching ever since.
We walked over 20 blocks from the Gershwin Theater in a quest for something to satisfy our sweet tooth (and for me, that longstanding longing for just a damn Belgian waffle). After standing in line for a good while, I decided on the Liège waffle with a scoop of ice cream and some speculoos spread. I'm sure what I got still didn't qualify for an authentic Belgian waffle (and you can see the tools they use in the truck; it looks kind of like a regular waffle maker you can get in the US), but boy that was the closest thing I've ever gotten in this country. I think they may just add yeast to the waffle-making process to get that thick consistency and texture, unlike the other places that advertise Belgian waffles on the menus but don't deliver nearly the same thing.
I did not like the speculoos spread, though. It was my first time trying it so nothing to do with the truck; I just don't like that thing. But the gingerbread cookie ice cream was good, and the waffle was freshly scorching hot. Next time I'd definitely want chocolate or nutella instead. We took our little trophies to the benches in the park and devoured away. Perfect sweet ending to a day of strolling in Manhattan.
My first time trying Wafels & Dinges since I spotted them at the 59th street corner of Central Park at Grand Army Plaza.
It's a big cart but not truck and they are limited in what they have other than the waffles. They cook the waffles in batches and then re-heat them when you order so as to speed things up.
They have two main waffles the Brussels and the Liege the first is crispy and the later is chewy. You can top your waffles with bananas, strawberries, Belgian chocolate fudge, marshmallows, spekuloos, Nutella, whipped cream, and ice cream. Not all the waffles are for the sweet toothed since they also have de Bacon or Chilli con Corne. And they got more options for you if these don't get your taste buds excited.
I got the the WMD, Waffle of Massive Deliciousnesssince it comes with so many toppings like bananas, strawberries, fudge and whip cream so that I don't have to decide what to pick. My waffle girl Noor was hooking me up by slicing fresh bananas and strawberries for my waffle and at the same time flirting me into getting some of the smaller waffles to take home to make my own.
Well all I can say is my WMD was delicious, I was thinking of sharing some with my bird friends of late but it was just too good, sorry pigeons, But I do wish I would have added a scoop of ice cream and that would have put it over the top. Just don't count the calories of this thing so you can enjoy it.
Yummmmmmy! Perfect for if you have a sweet tooth. Make sure you pick it up and eat it fresh, preferably somewhere close to where you purchased it and somewhere you can sit and use utensils.
We got something off the menu (can't remember the name) with two waffles, strawberries and bananas, whipped cream, Nutella, and cookie crumbs. Absolutely delicious and filling. Enough to share with at least one other person!
First time at a waffle cart & I was immediately impressed by the high energy & customer service by the lady serving us. It was just about to start raining heavily & was freezing cold that day, but staff was still upbeat, helpful & friendly.
I wasn't sure what to order, so I asked her to make me whatever she recommends. I'm glad I gave all the power to her! The food was delicious. It was a waffle with chocolate & strawberry toppings. All the flavors and textures went quite well together. Nothing overpowered the other, taste-wise. I also had a latte to pair it with which totally unified the whole meal. I loved it! 🙂
I found this place on Yelp and knew I had to give it a try. I love waffles and ice cream so it was a no brainier. I chickened out and opted to not get ice cream (it was too early for my stomach). I got the "turtle" which is a Belgium waffle topped with chocolate fudge, dulce de leche and walnuts. It was sooo good but ultimately too rich. It wasn't drenched in the fudge sauce but honestly, I would have enjoyed it even more with a little less. I couldn't finish my waffle! Also, the truck didn't have bacon or turkey bacon available even though it was on the menu and we were the first customers of the day.
