  1. So I was visiting Fort Tyron for a fun day of sledding after the recent snow storm and decided I wanted some Cuban food on the way home.  Yelp took me straight to El Floridita, a no frills restaurant which features cheap and tasty Cuban food.  There is a small bar in the back, a dine in bar on the side, and some tables in chairs set up inside as well.  This place is authentic.  You walk in and it is filled with local Cubanos that come here regularly sitting around the bar, having a great time.   This I knew was a good sign.

So, me and my friend ordered 2 Cuban sandwiches, rice with beans, and chicken.  All which came to a total of $22.  We ordered enough to feed a family of 5, but we wanted to try everything and it was hard to choose was to order.  After devouring as much as we could, our tummies were completely satisfied.  The Cuban sandwich is delicious.  Definitely one of the best Cuban sandwiches I have had while living in NYC.  The chicken and rice is also delicious.  I thoroughly enjoyed my meal here, and I highly suggest anyone to visit if you want to try some Cuban delicacies!

  2. This place is receiving 3 stars only because I had fun that night, besides the fact that the sangria and tequila shot was watered down, and the food was okay, not fab probably because I'm not a meat eater.  I did like the location (conveniently located on 125th street) and inside it looks nice too.  A nicer place in Harlem, for sure.

  3. Made a 3am visit here due to Tipico restaurant closing down the street (for good? I hope not). Average food but the place is full of energy and crowded, with merengue blasting from the speakers (which must have been right next to our table since my ears are still ringing 10 hours later). We were on a mission for good sopa de pollo and this was just mediocre, too watery and lacking that deep chicken taste. Tostones were fine as an appetizer but our sopa search continues.

  4. When I worked on 120th Street ( for 7 years) I literally ate here three times a week, at least.  Prices have steadily increased over the years, with regulars grumbling each time.  Food is consistently good, but if you're there on your lunch hour it's best to order from the daily specials.  Pick a meat, white or yellow rice (or moro, depending on what's been made), and black or red beans.  Lunch specials also come with maduros (sweet plantains) on the side.  One of my personal faves, ensalada de bacalao (codfish salad).  Breakfast here is pretty fantastic too if you're in the neighborhood.

  5. 4 stars is for the food. True Cuban, Dominican (fusion?)
The interior isn't the reason people come here. But there is a sense of comaraderie & the Latio music is lively. TVs were showing baseball games.
I will refrain from reviewing the interior/bathroom/decor. However, one needs to have an open mind & it would be helpful if you speak @ least Splanglish.
The food was fresh, tasty, authentic & very good.
The chicken soup is particularly rich & delicious. Black beans are amazing as was the Floridita chicken, luminous white rice. Portions are ample & served nicely.
The menu which is in both Spanish & English is extensive so take your time.
The service was pleasant & accommodating.
Full bar. Street parking. CASH only.

  6. When you are in the mood for some yellow rice, beans and chicken, this the spot!  They just obtained the corner spot that used to be a KFC and converted it into an upscale tapas/sports bar.  Next door to the tapas bar is a bakery and next to that is the casual diner where you can sit  and enjoy a tasty meal.  Prices are good and food is fresh.

  7. I took the extended walk from the Armory to hit this place up, due to it's great reviews.  I brought a few other track people with me, which in turn, converted the two not experienced with Cuban food, into fans.  I had the Cubano Especial, which was a large cuban sandwich.  It was better than any sandwich I had on my trip down to Miami last summer.  Let me say that again and in all caps, IT WAS BETTER THAN ANY SANDWICH I HAD ON MY TRIP DOWN TO MIAMI LAST SUMMER.  The ham and roasted pork they used were sliced fresh off the hock, juicy and tender.  I got a cuban sandwich, maduros, Jupina, and Cafe con Leche, all for $11.  Can't beat that price anywhere, much less NYC.  Definitely will be my go to, if I ever make it back up there.

  8. We came here for a really late dinner after a vegetarian event.

As a result we had Cuban sandwiches, steak plates and asopao de pollo. The asopao won. Meaning one persoon in a party of 6 was pleased. The four year old ad fries and that didn't disappoint him. My dream of death was fabulous but needed ice.

The Cubans didn't have pork… seriously? The bread was stale.
    The steak was super salty.

The service was what you get in a Dominican spot. Mediocre and uninspired. That reminds me. This is NOT a Cuban restaurant.

The worst part of this experience is how loud this place is. Our child diner was covering his ears and two of us had migraines. They could do with only one speaker, but had six.
