Gee Whiz Diner

“I wouldn't normally give a diner four stars, but this is my favorite breakfast spot in TriBeCa.”

“great brunch selection, not your typical greek diner, has good variety of good food, fast service, and very clean.”

“For $14, moderately inexpensive for New York I got the Italian omelette with hash browns on the side.”

  1. Gee Whiz Diner
    NY Manhattan TriBeCa
    9pm Friday 4th March 2015
    Three Stars

After Crossfit Open Workout 16.2, we went to the Gee Whiz Diner. We squeezed into a booth and ate some nightly breakfast. I ordered two eggs over medium, bacon, toast, and french fries. My eggs were busted and more overeasy. The bacon was not pretty but plentiful and delicious. The fries were crispy and well seasoned. The bread was buttered to the edges which was impressive. The chocolate chip pancakes were fluffy and delicious.

  2. Passed by and decided to try em' out on a whim, and all I can say about it is that it is mediocre for both the service and food.

My husband and I both got omelettes (mexican & sausage/cheese) and while the portions are enormous the food is so-so, considering the hash browns were very soggy and the omelettes were very DULL tasting. Since it was both brunch, we were suppose to get both orange juice and coffee/tea with our meal, and while we both got our hot beverage the orange juices never came despite asking the waiter twice.

The food took around 15-20 min which was longer than expected of a diner, and overall there is nothing special about the place, and definitely not worth the 14.50 brunch price.

  3. I've eaten here a few times. It's the only diner within walking distance from my job. I feel like their breakfast is a lot better than the rest of their food.

I ordered chicken tenders and fries today for delivery. It came to $24 which is insane- anyway, I waited over an hour for delivery which is annoying especially when GrubHub gives you the estimated time of delivery and they arrive 30 minutes after. The fries were ok, the chicken tenders were not that great- and they should have been great for the price lol.

  4. What a treat and what service! I love diners and I love breakfast in a diner. The food was delicious and plentiful. The service was incredible, what team work.  Everyone who works here checks on all guests to make sure water glasses are full, coffee and tea cups are filled and could we possibly need anything else. The price was right too. Nothing fancy but a great diner experience.

  5. I always pass by and never realized it was a diner. It's a cute place and feels like a old school diner. Service is a bit slower. They don't rush you even though its crazy lunch time. I ordered eggs with bacon – a dish that truly can't go wrong. Loved that the eggs were fluffy and loads of bacon strips. I counted at least six strips. I wish it was a bit crunchier but it was good enough and not greasy. The homefries were okay. I like it when my toast comes with well spread, melted butter and this place got it right. Great spot if you're looking for diner food in the neighborhood.

  6. One of the best diners in Manhattan!  They're expensive but you get huge portions. Their vast menu includes delicious paninis done right, elaborate pasta dishes and a fantastic spicy meat egg wrap.  And delivery is fast too!

  7. I come here often for brunch, and I must say their omelettes with homefries are always on point. My favorite is the Mykonos which comes with a free small OJ or coffee.

Sometimes I'd stop by during later hours and have a burger or pasta but they're pretty average. The wait staff are friendly, food comes out pretty fast and i've never really had a problem with this place.

  8. I used to go here quite often when I lived in Battery Park City.  I hadn't been here in many months.  It's a very standard diner with plenty of seats and a small counter.  It's definitely a breakfast / brunch / hamburger place.  Ordering anything else should be done at your own risk.

I went recently for breakfast and was disappointed with the hashbrowns.  They were raw and had a strong onion taste.  All other times it's been fine.

The service is always quick and friendly.  Weekends mid morning can be crowded, so I try to go early.
