Richol Bakery
“My favorite spot for a snack and a coffee- such tasty little pastries, delicious iced coffee and a killer egg and cheese on a croissant.”
“I rambled on to Albert, the pastry chef, about being a teacher in the trenches and that I was aimin' to reward myself for taking shit from 12 year-olds.”
“The actual place isn't too fancy but they had some really nice looking pastries and other baked goods and it all smelled amazing!”

It's kind of a sad bakery. Perhaps I wouldn't feel this way if I had lower expectations, but the 4.5 stars from Yelp had me expecting a metaphysical transportation to Paris.
We had breakfast here. For $5, the Turkey & Egg Croissant sandwich is a good deal. I had the more expensive Croque Madame, which was okay, but they left it on the griddle too long because a quarter of it was burnt. Just because the burn is on the bottom doesn't mean I don't notice.
I also got the almost croissant because I was hoping the pastries would save it. The croissant was soggy and not fresh tasting. It tasted like it came from a box from Costco.
The interior of the bakery has seen better days. The photos on the website are either from a long time ago, or they got a really good and creative photographer.
Concurrence on the slow service. Quite honestly, it's not the server's fault, the kitchen can't seem to get it together. Don't come to sit down and eat breakfast if you are in a hurry. It took us at least an hour to get our food. The other customers seem to wait just as long for their food. Nonetheless, the food itself was pretty decent.
My croissants this morning were fresh and flaky, just the way I like them!
So the dining room is nothing to write home about, just some tables and chairs arranged semi haphazardly across the room, and there's hardly what I'd call table service, but it does the job. On my first visit, I had a Croque Monsieur–it was made a little differently than I know (copious amounts of some kind of soft cheese on the inside, but it was still good. It came with a generous heap of dry greens. Today, I just grabbed a couple croissants to go. In and out in less than 5 minutes.
The guys who work here are genuinely friendly. It's very reasonably priced and convenient for those on their way to the LIRR stop just around the corner or the Fulton A/C.
So if I lived in the area, this is a place I would stop by on my way to work–probably way too often, or a place that I would go for a quick breakfast.
It's quick, there is variety, and its so affordable.
That being said, what this place does lack is atmosphere. Seriously. Nothing about this place says "welcome" when you walk in. Its not a place that I would want to sit and enjoy dessert or a meal alone or with company for that matter. If atmosphere is important to you, skip this place.
I see all of the pretty desserts and pastries in the case, and they just look totally out of place due to the effortless physical surroundings. The person behind the counter–um, she tool my order, and that was about it.
I actually did end up staying to eat the turkey and egg croissant, which was only $5 and pretty good, but definitely didnt linger. I'd come here for a quick breakfast on the way somewhere if it was on the way, but I would not go out of my way to come here. Cant really recommend based on my experience.
Not too bad…it tasted like the cappuccino that I requested was from a machine (as in, way too sweet, like it was a mix). There are a lot of pastries. It's clearly the sign of gentrification in the neighborhood, as it's brand new, clean, wifi and a hipster or two in site. If you're there in the 'hood, then I'd go. Everything looks like it may be freshly baked there, so have at it!
Nice french style bistro on the border of crown heights and bedford stuyvesant. The cook must be French because this place has very tasty food. Staff has a friendly Brooklyn feeling. Price for value is very good here.
The Almond croissant was so good, it reminded me of a spanish corvata pastry you typically find in Asturias/Cantabria. Waffles Royal is a great Brooklyn take on eggs benny. The turkey panini with dijon mustard takes a lottle longer but well worth it.
I'd come hete often if I lived here. Well worth a stop if you're staying in the area.
Really friendly staff. Clean. I stopped in for a coffee and it was fresh and made right. I'll stop in for brunch at some point!
Came in for a simple croissant and coffee. There is zero ambiance in this place but the baked goods are buttery, the coffee is good, the service is friendly, and the prices are great. A solid place.
