  1. My past deliveries have been so disappointing I'm unclear what's going on but I'm done!  Not returning.

  2. They actually have happy hour here. None of the bars along Stone Street offer happy hour prices because its usually paid by ahem… someone else's tab. I believe drinks were about $6? They have a good selection of beers and wine. Again, the drinks were on someone else's tab so I don't recall too well how much they were.

  3. I wanted to like this place more. I always try and give BBQ joints the benefit of the doubt before I step in or write a review. Being a backyard BBQ pitmaster myself, I know what to look for when I go to a place that touts "BBQ" or "Smokehouse".

Things to look out for that should make you wary:
    Firewood out on display
Zero to no smell of smoke lingering in the air
    Kitschy or extravagant menu

And that's on looks alone. But what about the food?

Well… Brisket should rarely by chopped, but instead be sliced about 1/8th of an inch. Yeah. I know. "Wtf how is anyone suppose to know something like that, you sound pompous as hell!" I promise you! I am not!

But back to the brisket, it was chopped and sliced way to thin. And then absolutely drenched in BBQ sauce. Which tells me that the brisket was either overcooked, or it was undercooked and therefore dry. Dry. Dry. Dry.

The sausage was able to redeem itself by being full of flavor and juicy goodness, the fries were alright and the service was adequate.

  4. Atmosphere: So much outside seating! Very popular spot. It was jam packed on a Tuesday night. Service was good, bussing was attentive, and the inside was spacious enough for us to get a little table even when it was busy. Don't want to see what this place is like on a TH/F/S night though!

Food: We got the greens salad, fried tomatoes, and deviled eggs. All of which were very tasty. I really wanted to get the smoked wings, as I have heard good things about them, but will save it for next time.

Drinks: We had cider and wine, and they weren't overly expensive. My wine was good, and my coworkers cider was served in a cute mason jar.

    Overall, would recommend again!

  5. Stumbeld upon this place after the restaurant we were looking for had apparently closed for good. Smokehouse is on a great block with a stretch of about 6 other restaurants in a cute little ally and the all have outdoor seating over pebbled streets. Its cute in appearance and ideal for after work drinks, which most of the crowd seemed to be there for.

For appetizers we ordered the wings. Very meh. Not the worse I've had but for a Smokehouse I expected kick ass hickory style wings with explosive flavor. Tjia wasn't it. We ordered lemonades because we both have been sick ans on meds so no liquor. Man, worse lemonade ever!! Like they legit made thia with the cheapest lemonade straight from the bottle. We had to have them returned, no exaggeration.

Because we apparently hadn't picked up on the disappointing trend and were either too lazy to move or just slow….we placed yet another order. I had the veggie burger, he ordered some pulled meat version. I had sweet potatoe fries, him regular.

Needless to say he took 2 bites and was done and try as I might I couldn't forge ahead. Overall the worse $56 bucks spent. Again we weren't even in the mood after a long to day to reorder only to be disappointed again.

If you're in the area, opt for a food truck or McDonald's instead of this place. Fyi, I don't do food trucks or McDonald's so you get the point.

  6. Love Stone Street and all it has to offer, especially Route 66. Came by here for HH with some friends on Friday evening and sure glad I did. HH has $6 well drinks and fireball shots are $6 all night I believe as well. Also, excellent whiskey selection. And the bar food doesn't disappoint either.

Two words: chicken wings. Get them. Not sure what they're seasoned with, but they are so damn good. Mac n cheese is legit but pretty creamy/heavy, and the nachos are delicious! If you're vegetarian, you can get it without chili or they'll just put that on the side. The only disappointing thing were the fried green tomatoes– super standard and only came with 4- what?! We felt a little jipped there, but all in all, Route 66 is solid.

  7. I came here for lunch with a co-worker who likes the veggie burgers. Not wanting a veggie burger, I decided on trying their Fried Oyster Po' Boy 16 sandwich with sweet potato fries.

A good choice because the sandwich was awesomely good!

We ate our meals in their outdoor dining street area under canopies. The atmosphere was very open air trendy. The price of the meals were very reasonable and the service was decent (considering it was during the lunch rush).

I will definitely make a return visit and try out their other menu items and will give Route 66 four yelp stars…

BTW…go early or the outdoor seating will get crowded.

  8. I was all set to have a big pulled pork sammy and a beer for lunch.

I'm walking to Stone St, what a fun spot! Restaurants and bars on both sides of the alley all with one objective, to have a good time outside in a unique setting.

I peek inside and it looks like a fun & inviting spot. A big bar with TVs, kinda dark and mysterious. What sold me was the music. It's party time up in here! I grab a stool and sit at the bar.

I know, I know, Pork Clouds to start. I was all set to place that order but on the special list I noticed there was a Shishito pepper appetizer? I started with the peppers and was all set to order a Sliced Brisket sammy, maybe the Black Angus Burger? Fried Oyster Po' Boy? Shrimp and grits? Man, this menu seems off the chain. What I decided on was the soft shelled crab sandwich. Mmmm mm! This sandwich was a crabby delight, meaty and fresh tasting makes this a home run lunch hit. The Shishito peppers, they give you a bunch which is nice to share with friends. To have them solo, its a bit much. Pork clouds should have been ordered.

This is a great spot in the FiDi to kick back, drink a few beers and have some good BBQ.

Get your kicks, to the route 66 Smokehouse
