This place is pretty good. My mom in law, boyfriend and I had lunch on a Sunday here. The food was great. I had shrimp and grits which were incredible. My mom had steak and (fried plantains) Tostones. Her steak was amazing, great texture and seasoning. My boyfriend had pulled steak which was also really good. I would definitely recommend this place. It's a cozy and cute place. Supposedly they will begin delivering next month… Can't wait !
The food was mediocre. The mac and cheese tasted like it came from a Kraft box. It wasn't the southern baked dish I expected.
The decor was lackluster at best. No portraits were hung. It was super minimal (not the pretty kind). It wasn't the Latin American decor you expected from a restaurant with a Spanish name.
Since the decor was so minimal, the acoustics were horrible. Sound bounced from everywhere, so I had to speak louder to my friend so she could hear me.
Considering that the restaurant was in Kingsbridge and the food was mediocre at best, it was expensive. I'm talking "Manhattan prices" expensive.
Went for brunch with Julie today about 12:30. The place was only about 1/4 full. We were seated quickly and Julie ordered a black coffee. They brought her coffee about 10 min later in a paper like to go cup. Strange but OK, best restaurant coffee ever. Maybe the cardboard cup added depth to the flavor. We ordered a shrimp in plantain cups appetizer to share. Fantastic. Julie had skirt a good sized marinated steak and I had a fruit smoothie and "healthy" omelet. The food service is slow. Virtually everything is made from scratch as ordered. They have an open kitchen and you can watch your food being prepared, if you want.
This is a good neighborhood place with an actual small parking lot in the front. Also it is very reasonable. Our bill was $44.00 before tip. Extra star for that.
Anyway, when we finished, about 1:45, the place was packed with no more open tables. We will be back.
I'm beyond excited that Leche y Miel calls Riverdale / Kingsbridge home, because that's MY home and it means I can go here whenever I want!!
Went for brunch last Sunday, around 11:30. Pretty empty, which surprised me. I ordered at the counter because I wasn't quite sure what to do & there was no staff on the floor.
Got the honey dipped French toast with a side of scrambled egg & bacon and the Elvis smoothie. Everything was very good. Smoothie came in a mason jar, which I love. You could probably serve me gasoline in a mason jar and I would love it.
French toast was yum, egg & bacon were average. Staff was friendly and attentive. Prices are great, take a look at my receipt for specifics. I cannot wait to come back & try lunch or dinner!
The office wanted something different for take out and we picked this little neighborhood spot in the Bronx. If you didn't know it was there you might easily miss it.
For those that know the neighborhood, this venue is on Broadway between the gym and the Carvel. This is around the corner from the Police Station and McD's.
A family run business, lunch time seemed a bit disorganized, the abuela knocking over the paprika spilling it all over the place and many of the items we ordered not available.
The vegetable chicken soup was full of big chunky veggies. Oxtails with yellow rice and red beans looked great but were sadly bland. The spiced garbanzos and mofongitos with shrimp were delicious. The bread pudding, epic. We'll be back for more, I'm sure.
Should have known when we entered and most tables are unclean. Dishes not cleared away and trash on at least 3 tables. Yikes!
I ordered the soup while he ordered the oxtail only to be told that they ran out of rice? Of rice? How can they run out of rice? So we order yucca fries. They're out of that too… guess we'll take what you do have. Mashed potatoes. Sigh.
Water took forever to come. When it did there were white specks in it. Asked for another one. More specks. Ended up just saying forget it. After all I did have water in the car….
Chicken and vegetable soup was very basic. It was pieces of chicken cutlets with many different types of vegetables in a thin broth. Not what I expected. Oxtail came with mashed potatoes and fried plantains. Also just ok.
Bread pudding was good. Though when we tried to use the free check-in for each of us only to be told it's one free dessert per table. This wasn't indicated on the check-in.
Another wait for the check to come. Can't tell you how disappointed we were with this experience.
Came here for brunch and was not disappointed. We had the pancakes, French toast and waffles and all were very good. Their smoothies were also very tasty. Service was great and the food served with care.
