Kombit Bar & Restaurant
“For my main course, I had the legume militon (vegetarian legume) with diri djon djon (what many refer to as black rice) and plantains.”
“Especially the Griot (yummy) The waitress recommended a special drink for me since it was my birthday called Port-Au-Princess.”
“They also play kompa music on Thursday night but it is pretty loud, can't really have a conversation with some one right across the table from you when that music is on”

This place is wonderful! After telling my friend that I have never tried Haitian food, he suggested we meet in BK to try Kombit. Following his lead, I ordered the legume. It was excellent.
The meal comes with flavored rice with meat and cooked bananas on the side. The sauce is delicious. They are extremely generous with their portion and I had to take the rest home for a late night snack.
The service here is also very good, the ambiance is chill. There is bike parking nearby and the restaurant is located very close to the subway station. For drinks, I would recommend trying their Rum Sour – it meshed very well with the meal. Overall, I enjoyed my experience. The meal was really good and the ambiance/home made feels was a good way to finish up my week. My tummy is content, thank you!
Came here after the beyonce concert. It was pretty late around 11:30 but they still decided to take all 5 of us.
We ordered the kreyol wings for an appetizer and they were delicious.
For my main meal I ordered griot and diri jon jon (pork and black rice with mushroom). Two slices of plantain came on the side with some sauce. (I've had haitian sauce but it was still okay.) The rest of the food was delicious.
If you like spicy food make sure you ask for some picliz on the side.
The restaurant was small and nice and the people working there were very kind.
Will definitely try this place again when I'm in NY.
OK so I tasted the Griot – what happened??????? For those who do not know Griot is fried pork and is one of our national dishes…….. Kombit I was really disappointing with the Griot – now that i have tasted it.
I had to take away one star for that………….. The Griot did not have any of the Haitian spices that it is known for……………..
My review is solely based on their drinks and ambiance. That being said, the drinks are amazing and the ambiance is great! I came here with my coworkers for a happy hour on a Friday and had a great time. They had a live band and it was exceptional!
The restaurant seemed quite full and portions entrees seem to be of good portion size. Next time I go, I'm definitely trying their food!
Damn I can't believe my 4 stars is going down to a 2. I used to big this place up a lot! One night after attending my boyfriends show, we decided we wanted Haitian food. Since we were around the area we figured we stopped by kombit.
There were four of us, The wait wasn't bad. But that's not the worse part:
The food quality went down. I don't know if it's because we came late, but I was very disappointed. The griot tasted as though they had just warmed it up in the microwave and called it a day. It did not taste fresh. The rice was the long grain rice (not a fan) and was dry as hell.
I was embarrassed because I brought 2 of our good friends here. We could have went anywhere but we chose kombit. And for the food to taste that mediocre?! It lacked an exponential amount of luster.
What happened to the kombit that I knew to be great? What happened to the amazing griot you guys used to make — tender on the inside and crunchy on the outside? Please don't fall off guys. We need more successful/amazing Haitian or black owned restaurants in our community. I don't want to give up on this establishment because it has major potential!
DO BETTER.
Great drinks. They're very strong and delicious. The bartenders are nice and accommodating and the atmosphere is calm and relaxing. They have good Haitian music playing and you just might catch a live band if you go on the weekend.
I ate here years go, but I've certainly passed the statue of limitations for providing a good review on that. I came here for a drink on a night that the Knicks were on fire winning and every other bar was pretty crowded. My ousting and I stepped in to find lots of empty seats.
Definitely not a high end bar. Think very casual, but their drink prices were reasonable, the drinks were tasty, the staff was friendly and there were a few screens allowing me to easily watch the game. I saw others order food and it looked pretty good. I definitely won't to come back and heck out the food. I hear that they have a DJ some nights and other nights they have a band. That sounds awesome and I will definitely check it out.
I have never had Haitian food before so I don't have anything to compare it to however my dinner companion is Haitian and said the food was very authentic and good. That said lets talk about the food. I ordered the griot with plantains and rice & beans. It was fried pieces of pork that came with a creole sauce on the side, it was perfectly cooked and great flavor. I also got to try the beef legume (shredded beef in vegetable sauce) this was delicious.
Next time I come here I will order the bee legume since the flavors were really good.
I wasn't in the mood to drink therefore I ordered the passion fruit juice and it was good.
Everyone who worked there was nice however I wish they would have a t least some soft music since the only sound there was the basketball game on the tv.
