Wow, this has to be the worst shake shack I have been to in New York City. After a long day at work, I decided to have dinner here. I ordered the smoke shack without the bun but with everything on it along with cheese fries and a single dip chocolate custurd. The cashier repeated the order correct but when I looked at my receipt she didn't order my burger but instead ordered an extra cheese fry. I approach her about this and it took her 10 minutes just to figure out how to refund my money and add the burger. The manager, Ray, came out to help her and offered no apologies whatsoever. After 45 minutes, yes 45 minutes I get my burger and it is missing the bacon. Finally after another 5 minutes I get my order. The chocolate custurd tasted disgusting. I have been a loyal customer of shake shack but this has ruined it for me. This isn't the first time they have messed up my order. In other locations, they have messed up my order but this is the worst.
Update:
The manager Matt spoke to me and not only apologized but took the time to hear me out. Solely because of that encounter i would go back here.. He went out of his way to take care of my concerns.
Many Forest Hills peepers — peeped opinion's, verbalized their displeasure with Austin Streets newest burger addition –The Double 'S'.
"Too pricey, its not worth the money, wah-wah-wah." Call a Wahmbulance.
So I countered with my prior experiences in the city at other locations….Couldn't convince 'em, not trying to convince 'em anymore, just ready for a baked ham although clearly grilled and made of beef, by myself -thank you very much-. (Simpsons reference)
I'd assume a shack looks little like what I experienced as to sort of aged gray wood panels, which I suppose is city shackish.
The rafters were filled to the brim with people and not hay — they looked upon me from 20 feet above as if they wanted to sling pickle slices down upon the anxious lined up patrons. It was spitballs through the straws in my day.
The Smokehouse burger was delicious, heart attack in wax paper to be sure but its my body —- and it's no temple, it's more of an amusement park.
Fries were horribly dull and inconsequential to the meal as was the cheesy topping, really nothing unique which I recall from my Manhattan meals. It kinda brought the experience down a star.
Food and beverage wise, not much to mention. We already know it's all top notch fare. Franchise royalties are paid for a reason, consumers expect consistency across the board.
Will give a special mention to service though. Cleared our trays as we sat and talked. Was really surprised at that. This was the first time i sat at any shake shack longer than 7 minutes though, so this may be standard operating procedure and i have no idea. Had no intention of leaving yet, but employees didn't hassle us out or even hint at us to get up. When we finally left and was by the door, I changed my mind to throw out the soda and not bring it with me. Turned around and employee immediately asked if I was throwing out cup and offered to take it from me. Again, surprised.
Who on the East Coast doesn't love Shake Shack? This SS location, formerly a Strawberry clothing store, is a welcome addition to a rapidly changing neighborhood that at times, gets a few gems for every "old school" shop it loses. The line for SS is usually out the door and it pays homage to the community with several FH/Queens-themed shakes. My meal consists of a single ShackBurger, small fries, and weekly special shake. Good alternatives are the surprisingly juicy and generous size Chick'n Shack, and Shack-cago Dog. The bi-level seating with high-ceilings makes it much more spacious than its Manhattan brethren.
Visited last Friday night around 9pm. A tad late for dinner so I'm glad we missed the long lines that can build at this location. We ordered the food & had to wait around 10 minutes for it to be done. The staff is young but friendly enough. The space is large & has two floors as it used to be a Strawberry's. I really appreciated being able to watch the Mets game while waiting & dining.
I really enjoyed Shake Shack. Mushroom veggie burger was very yummy, cheesy & deelish. Fries were quiet unremarkable in comparison to the burger. Either way, I'd give it a second shot & explore the menu a bit more.
When is shake shack ever bad? Never. If you ever crave a simple burger that's not over hyped or so talked up then shake shack is the place to go. Simple burgers done real well. Nothing wrong with great ground beef and American cheese between potatoe buns. Flavor is always on point here and I never just get one burger.
Tip: get the Chick N shack!!! I didn't expect it to be that good. Chicken is juicy and the matter is fried to perfection. That butter milk herb mayo was awesome. Highly recommend the combo of the shack burger and the Chick n shack!
Very large space with a ton of seating.
I like the layout of this place a lot. I know there isn't much space to wait in line but they really did put in a lot of sitting space. They did a great job with the design of the place as well.
– smoke shack
As usual very good. 5/5
– chick n shack
I've had it before and it was slightly greasy but not this one. Perfect
– Fries
Crinkle cut are simply great. No doubt glad they switched back!
– Hill of beans
It was very good but the bits of coffee beans added a little too much crunch. It would have been better with fewer coffee beans.
Great addition to the neighborhood!
Don't let the line intimidate you! It was out the door and I waited 5 minutes to get to the register. We ordered Shackburger, SmokeShack Burger, fries, and malted salted caramel shake. Even though the restaurant was packed, we managed to find clean tables upstairs. Shake Shack provides babywipes by the trash can for customers to clean tables and hands.
The burgers had a chewy consistency, delicious with every bite, ragging with flavor and texture, but disappeared in less than 5 bites, and my mouth isn't all that big. I found the milkshake to be the highlight of the meal.
Dip the fries and burger in the milkshake. You will not be disappointed!
