Wild Ginger – a long time favorite of Williamsburg residents – are feeling the sting of rising rents just like the rest of us. But instead of throwing in the towel and calling it quits on Bedford, I'm happy to report they've found a new home on N 10th street between Bedford and Driggs.
If you loved their vegan fare before, rest assured the quality is still there. But this time around, their digs are far more fancy.
I opted for a light lunch of pumpkin soup and fresh summer rolls. The summer rolls were vibrant and came with a nice peanut sauce that hit the spot. Their pumpkin soup was just the thing to battle the frigid conditions as well. More of a brothy version with chunks of soft pumpkin than a creamy type, but equally rewarding.
If you've missed them on Bedford, pay them a visit!
Yay I found you Wild Ginger! I almost forgot about you but walking down Bedford makes me remember that there is a vegan Asian place I actually think is delicious.
Yes it is kind of out of the way now but more spacious, more colorful, and still serving delicious veggie options. I'm a omnivore but I enjoy myself a good veggie dish. I always enjoy everything I order here. I usually order a noodle dish but I'm a fan of tofu and I enjoy the seitan protein they offer up in a lot of the dishes.
A vegan/vegetarian restaurant with a huge menu and surprising combinations (there is something for everyone – don't worry carnivores!). The peanut noodles were so tasty and the pineapple rice was a filling, tasty meal. The passion tea and passion lemonade are refreshing and, if you feel like being naughty, you can get rock candy in it.
The server was friendly although not overly attentive.
A great place for take-out or stop and enjoy the quiet atmosphere.
The decor looks great and the food is tasty. The presentation of the food gets an A+ and the food quantity comes in an an abundance. I absolutely love the area of this location in Billy Burg. There are always people walking around the neighborhood and the diversity cannot be challenged. I suggest everyone from Queens and bellow 96th steet of Manhattan come become a patron of wild ginger to make it even more wild.
Just wanted to say that I very much enjoyed the food here. My friend is a vegan so this was an opportune moment for me to experience a true vegan restaurant.
My friends and I ordered the Scallion Pancakes and Avocado tartar as starters. I personally enjoyed the pancakes very much. They were light and came with a nice mango salsa on top. The avocado tartar was mediocre and the sauce tasted more like pure soy sauce than a lime-wasabi sauce.
For the main entree, I ordered the Mango Soy Protein which was quite excellent and the "meat" specifically was very delicious. It was sauteed in onions, zucchini, bell peppers, and mangos in a nice plum sauce and came with brown rice.
Overall, food was deserving of 4 stars. The reason I bumped it down to 3 was for the service. Our waitress was very cold, rude, and short with us for no reason. At first, we thought that we had arrived right at closing, but the restaurant didn't close for another 2 hours. But aside from the service the food was excellent and I'm excited to try out the other meat-free dishes this place has to offer.
