  1. After a long 6 mile hike, 5 hungry friends happened to find a highly rated place in Hackensack since we all were craving Indian food. We ordered 3 appetizers… Drums of heaven (horrible), ginger chicken (bland to no seasoning) and Paneer Chilly (best compared to the rest).

For entrées we ordered, Chicken Kadhai, Chicken Biryani, Saag Chicken and Butter Chicken. That made our review simple. This isn't an appetizer place but scores all 3 stars for it's entrées. Absolutely delicious with a lot of flavor.

We ordered all with regular spice level so they weren't too spicy at all. Definitely recommend the Biryani and Butter Chicken.

  2. I have been to this restaurant a handful of times and each experience has consistently been amazing. Affordable, authentic, delicious food & a friendly staff. I also ate here once recently during a very bad snow storm when no one else was open & they were happy to serve us.

  3. I ordered takeout from here. It definitely came out to be a pretty expensive meal for the amount of food we actually got but it was actually really tasty! I got the chicken tikka masala and my mother got one of the shrimp and spinach dishes. The naan was really good (love, love naan!). I'd definitely Visit the restaurant in the future to try it out.

  4. Outstanding place to satisfy my cravings for Indian cuisine!  My favorite is the Chicken Tikka Masala!

I have eaten here twice, 1st time thru online ordering and 2nd time as a sit down during lunch. Both times I left very satisfied- fresh and authentic!
Our waiter was lovely and our online order was on time. The art on the wall really symbolizes Indian food, culture and beauty. Got to appreciate that – right?!

I applaud anyone who comes to try tandoori chef.

P.S. – I do have to point out; I would prefer ordering online because my coworker and I agree the portions are bigger. WE love big portions!

  5. *FREE DESSERT WHEN YOU CHECK IN *

Service wasnt terrible, but SLOW. My date and i kinda just waited and sat around with our thumbs up our bums for awhile. We didnt get the memo that we pay at the registar and the food took awhile to come over.

The vegetarian samosas were amazing, large and crispy but filled with amazing-ness.

The Nan was cooked perfectly, not too fluffy but not burnt. The garlic Nan had th perfect amount of garlic too.

My date was happy with her $10 vegeatrian platter which came with a samosa, some fritters, another veggie fried thing and some type of bread.

Prices are great, food tasted okay for what i had.

  6. OK so we decided to go and get food to go. I am a chicken tikka masala fanatic, if i do say so my self. Living in NYC has given me insight to many ethnic dishes, and this is one I am quite fond of.. That is, in other restaurants… To be honest with you, Tandoori Chef was extremely chincy with the chicken in this dish. I literally counted 8 cubed peices of chicken in mostly a soup-esqe type of sauce… It was very watery. Don't get me wrong there was a great, intense flavor, definetly had a nice spice to it. But the conssitency of the sauce was just way too watery. Tikka Masala, (a cream based tomato sauce) is supposed to have thickness to it, this did not. The basmati rice was great, but how could it not be? I was really looking forward to the Naan bread, but sadly was dissapointed. It was burnt, and floppy. A good Naan it supposed to be nice thick and fluffy, and be well, unfloppy… All in all my bf and I were dissapointed. For $43  for two orders of Chicken tikka masala and 2 sides of Naan, it def. wasn't worth what we got. We plan on trying Bhoj next time, for their buffet… A fellow YELPER has told me its pretty good. Sorry Tandoori chef, but I think I am gonna have to pass next time. Get your Naan in check, and maybe I can reconsider.

  7. Never had a bad meal here. Friendly staff, clean kitchen, and busy dining room make for a great experience. Go with the classics or sample something more exotic; I promise you won't be upset. I overdo ally love the chicken saag. Yums!

  8. *veg sample platter (the samosa was pretty good, filling could have been better and have more kick to it; the pakoras were alright, I felt that it was dry for some reason; the paneer was so firm, I'm used to softer consistencies)
*garlic naan (yes please!!! so perfect and thankfully not oily like how some places prepare theirs)
*paneer makhani (paneer in rich, buttercream sauce; I liked the sauce but the paneer is just too firm for me; if the cheese was softer then I would give this dish a 10)

This restaurant is cozy with very simple decor. The red walls look like indented red lipstick; not sure what they were going for. Service is good and they're attentive. Food isn't bad but I've had better.
