Go-to diner on upper east side. exactly what you are looking for if you have no idea what you are in the mood to eat. The menu is never ending and will certainly leave you changing your mind up until the last moment. A monte kristo! No wait, tuna melt. Wait maybe pancakes. Ahhhh all of them? Iced coffees are large and refillable which was a nice touch. The matzah ball soup was very hearty during the winter time, and the Egg dishes are very good. Big portions. Our waitress was a bit on the cranky side but also felt very diner-esque. They do try to rush you out but hey, it's a diner.
Still have endless love for The Mansion but really hope they can adjust some of their price points moving forward. Last night I ordered a chicken cutlet sandwich on rye bread with sweet potato fries and it was $19.00. Yes the food is delicious, and a step above local diner and American fare, but that's a totally outrageous price for such a small amount of food. Love you guys, help me out here so I can continue to patronize your establishment!
I really don't understand all the negativity that the Mansion is getting here. It is a fantastic diner. Probably the best or one of the best in New York.
It is spotless. The service is attentive.
Let's be real here, this is a diner. You already know what is on their menu. It is the same as every other diner.
However, the mansion pulls it off as good or better than anyone.
Very average diner. HUGE menu which was nice but almost overwhelming. The prices seemed a bit high for a diner, and the food was only decent.
I would suggest it if you're nearby and only looking for a basic diner, but just know that there are a thousand other places to get a better meal in NYC.
I am embarrassed to say this was my first time eating here living a block away for 2 years. I went in at 8:30 on a Saturday morning and we got a booth in the back. Looking around there appeared to be a lot of neighborhood people having there morning coffee and exchanging stories. A pair of cops were in break having a coffee at the main counter, it felt like a Rockwell painting. Both the food and service were excellent, especially the corned beef hash! Great atmosphere, food and service… What more is there? A new favorite for us in York.
Came here for lunch while staying with a dear friend who lives a few blocks away. We were both slightly hungover and not quite sure if we were in the mood for breakfast or lunch. Fortunately, this place offered no shortage of both.
The menu is HUGE. I think it took me 20 minutes to get through it and I'm a non meat eater so most things at most restaurants get automatically eliminated for me yet I STILL needed tons o'time to peruse. It seemed to have EVERYTHING. Like seriously, it was insane. The vegetarian options were numerous.
I eventually decided on what would traditionally be considered "lunch" and went with the chicken caesar wrap, sans the chicken. The waittress kind of gave me a look and said "You do realize it's only going to be lettuce and salad dressing, right?" Um, yeah.
If I'm not mistaken, the menu also said we could order as many pickles as we wanted, which is good to know. Who doesn't love an unlimited supply of pickles, upon request of course.
There was also some miscommuncation about whether or not they had mimosas, and whether or not I wanted one. I thought I ordered one, but I'm not sure. I never got it, so I guess I didn't and it was likely for the best. I'd consumed so much wine at their place the night before that by the time we were out at a bar, I was actually ordering WATER. I'm surprised I knew enough to do that or this would be a VERY different review. It actually probably wouldn't exist at all.
I totally can't remember what my friend ordered but it must've looked good because the guy at the table next to us leaned over and asked him what it was.
it's old faithful. you can always depend on the mansion being friendly, available and delivering good service (of course food too). it's where you want to come on a sunday morning, or any morning for that matter. everyone is a familiar face in those sharp blue coats. diners in nyc can sometimes feel dirty, not this one. big fan of their delivery service too.
update:
i came for a late night nosh and ordered a chocolate shake. $7.00. really, guys? i could've bought 2 pints of haagen dazs at c-town. i should've! still love you though.
Above average diner food with great service and a warm friendly feel to the restaurant. We shared a turkey sandwich with coleslaw, pickles and fries. Everything tasted good, actually the fries were cooked to perfection and brought to us burn you mouth hot (which is how I love them). Drinks were refilled promptly too.
