DECOR
What a beautiful restaurant! Its like East meets urban scape as murals of Southeastern themes were painted on the brick walls.
CLEANLINESS
The tables and chairs were clean. I found the chairs hard and uncomfortable to sit on for a lengthy dinner. The bathroom was very clean. The mirror was spotless and the floor was not littered with paper towels.
SERVICE
My friends and I received the food pretty quickly. We got all of the food and drinks we ordered. I even got my soup first as requested even though it was a side.
FOOD
In this restaurant, the US meets Southeast Asia. There's the Elvis roti. Quite unique! I ordered the Indonesian style ginger ice tea and the grilled shrimp healthy meal. For $13, it seemed to be one of the biggest bargains. The portions were adequate for the price. The ice tea was sweet like the waiter described
This was now my second timing having dinner at Laut, and I found the second time more disappointing than the first.
I listened to fellow Yelpers and ordered some of the simpler things on the menu… We shared a bottle of wine (Sauvignon Blanc), the vegetable spring rolls & soup dumplings, and I had beef pad Thai for dinner.
The vegetable spring rolls were light & fresh, but the "soup" dumplings were horrible. There was absolutely no soup in any of the dumplings, they lacked flavor and were really misshapen & overall not good.
The beef pad thai was good, but really nothing special & there wasn't that much beef. It was a good portion of noodles, but the flavors weren't memorable or any better than some of the cheap takeout Thai places in the area.
The service was good, the restaurant is super cute, intimate & dimly lit, but the food really is sub-par, especially for the prices.
It's a good date spot, but I likely will not be coming back to Laut (and am very open to other recommendations ).
Ugh, this place comes SO CLOSE to really being fantastic. The food is still great, service was fine throughout my birthday dinner. Then following our meal, as my two friends and I were visiting, the server told us to leave because other people were waiting. I have never, ever encountered such a thing anywhere, let alone in New York City, and especially not when I had a reservation. Even worse, the restaurant knew that it was my birthday (I noted this when making the reservation).
If the food weren't so good, I'd give it zero stars, I'm so astounded by the rudeness.
Came here after a workout and friend was in the mood for some Asian fusion

Curry Puff – Fried goodness! Always enjoy
Roti Telur – Wanted to change it up instead of the standard (but always delectable Roti Canai). It wasnt what I was expecting, kind of more like a Scallion Pancake but without as much flavor on it's own. Needed to dip into a sauce to get more flavor. I think I rather get the originals instead.

Drunken Noodles – Chicken – I enjoyed the dish, a bit salty, but overall good.
This place is good, but it isnt anything special. If you want a good meal and reasonable prices, not a bad spot.
I would probably give 3 1/2 stars if I could. We were looking for some good Thai food one Saturday evening so I looked on Yelp and food Laut. I read they did have a Michelin star at one point so I was curious to try it. You definitely don't come here for the service or the atmosphere. When we walked in rather early on a Saturday evening the place was about 1/2 full but that quickly changed, all at the expense of you dining comfort! They literally tried to squeeze a chair between our table and the next that the person sitting in it would have had to been about 2 inches wide. We started with some pretty decent Lychee martinis and some vegetable dumplings which were just ok, I've had better. Next we ordered a small bites appetizer that is their specialty. It has a little bit of everything and it was very good, I would come back for that. We ordered the chili crab dish which had a nice flavor but not a lot of crab meat. My other gripe was I ordered a singha draft and it was on the small size and I think close to $9, for a less than 12 oz draft?
Went here for a birthday party. We were a large group and the servers were attentive and accommodating, though they did rush us towards the end. We were celebrating two birthdays and they got the birthday cakes when most of us were still having our entrees.
The food has really declined in quality over the last couple of years. We had come here a couple of years ago too and I remember the food being a lot better. There are better Malaysian places in the city that you could go to.
Finally tried the green curry and it was fantastic. Spicy and crazy with a good balance of savory and sweet coconut flavors. Plenty of chicken too! The night market noodles and basil chicken were also hits! I loved the noodles which were slightly crispy and very savory. Definitely worth a visit! Prices are fantastic. We paid $75 including tax and tip for 4 entrees and the portions were perfect for 4 very hungry girls!
I really liked this spot…I had the following:
Drunk Man Noodles – flavorful noodles with chicken, this was very savory with a hint of sweetness.
Pineapple Chicken – a great dish of tender chicken pieces in a flavorful sauce that although had pineapple, it wasn't overdone with the pineapple flavor.
I'd definitely visit this spot again…they have a big menu so it's a bit hard to choose since so many things sound great, which is a good problem to have!
