  1. Food is good but the staff is not concentrating.  First they forgot to give corresponding buzzers to people – I asked because I heard someone waiting forever.

When my turn came – I took the bag with me and when I reached my gate to eat – no cheese for the fries as discussed at that!

Am disappointed.  Get a better crew!

  2. Burgers here are STILL delicious (compared to other locations)! And surprisingly not too busy, at lease when I went mid week. Fried were a bit overdone. But the burger was perfect!

*Note: This location does not accept free shake vouchers from the 5th anniversary shake sale. The plus is that you at least donated to "No Kid Hungry," to receive the  voucher, the redeeming factor.

  3. Slow service but delicious burgers! Right across from B37, the gate which I was flying out of, so obviously I had to get a Shack Burger before my final destination. Ground beef on a potato bun with cheese, tomato, lettuce, and their special Shack sauce. If you go to NYC and don't go to Shake Shack, you are doing it all wrong.

  4. I was told by several people that I had to go here during my trip to New York because they are the best fast food burgers around! This ended up being the final thing that I did before boarding my plane to head back home and am happy I had a chance to do so.

Not sure if they do this at all locations but, at the airport, they use a pager system to let you know when your order is ready. This makes it real easy if you are in a hurry and need to take care of a couple last minute things before your flight without having  to waste time standing there waiting.

The burger was really good for a fast food burger although my favorite item was actually the chocolate milk shake. I ordered the SmokeShack which of course comes with bacon and it was pretty much what I expected. I would put the quality closer to a Red Robin burger (which I really like) than any other sort of fast food place so they are definitely one of the better options around.

They do offer beer, wine, breakfast items, and a few other unique items and everything is made with quality, fresh ingredients which is where you see the difference in taste. Service here was great and the staff was very friendly even as they worked through the endless line of people waiting to order. it's pretty easy to see why so many people would recommend Shake Shack as a place you don't want to miss.

  5. I know… I know…

Let me state the facts that may make me sound biased first, and then go on with my experience:
    1. I'm a LA, CA girl.
    2. I fell in love with In n' Out in high school and have often found myself craving some hot, fresh animal-style fries often.
    3. I think that In n' Out's animal-style burgers are simplistic beauties.
    4. I love In n' Out's strawberry shakes – I actually love all their shakes but strawberry is my favorite flavor.
    5. Shake Shack has been highly recommended by more than a few individuals who thought I was nuts to go to NY twice and never stop by the joint.
    6. This particular taste experience was at the JFK Airport.

    That being said…

I appreciated the beef patty – it was juicy and a decent thickness. The flavors were simple and to the point. It's a no-fuss burger. It just didn't have that "Oh, wow… I can't believe I haven't been to the LA location yet!!!" effect on me.

The fries were ok – they were very skimpy with the servings, and the way that it was stacked on top of each other… it just made the bottom fries get all smushed.

    I hate soft, smushy fries.

The shake was pretty good. Can't complain in this department.

All in all, I had to ask myself: "If it was a random day back home and I had to choose between In n' Out and Shake Shack for a meal, which would I choose?"

    In n' Out.

Well, actually, I'd choose the Standing Room, but that's for another review.

  6. This review is for the Shake Shack closest to security in Terminal 4 at JFK, although, since I go to both locations regularly, the review for the other Shake Shack in Terminal 4 would be very similar. If you take nothing more away from this review, take this: while Shake Shack seems like fast food, your food will come out very SLOWLY. My average wait time for a burger or sandwich (of the 10+ times I have been here), from the time I got in line to the time I got my food, has consistently been around 30 minutes.

I am emphasizing the lack of speed because this is an airport location, and most people passing through here have short connection times. I have seen many a person get out of line or go sprinting off toward their gate after waiting nervously for their food, probably because they did not anticipate such a long wait. The food quality here is higher than most fast food (better quality meat with no antibiotics or hormones, uncured bacon, cage-free eggs, etc), and it takes time to make things from scratch. I'm not necessarily faulting Shake Shack for taking so long, but hopefully people with close connections will take this into account before they get in line.

Besides the (lack of) speed, this place is great. I'm allergic to dairy, so I'll leave the shake reviews to other people. However, the breakfast sandwiches and burgers are amazing. Be sure to add the CHOPPED PEPPERS to your sandwich, you will not be disappointed. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They stock Stumptown coffee, and their microbrew selection is good and not expensive for an airport. For "fast" food, overall, the quality and taste here is amazing. If you have the time, this is one of your best options in Terminal 4 for a good meal.

  7. Had a bit of a layover so I decided to try the Shake Shack!  I got the Smokeshack burger, fries, and the Toffee Takeoff frozen custard concrete.  The line moved quickly, the staff was super friendly and enthusiastic, and my food was ready relatively quickly given the amount of orders that were taken in a short time.
The food itself was delicious.  The burger was cooked well and had a good flavor.  The bacon, well, can't go wrong with crispy applewood bacon.  And the concrete had plenty of chocolate toffee and caramel sauce.
    Great layover meal.

  8. Yet another burger from my trip to Belgium!  And another really good one…

I had the Shack Burger…a basic burger with lettuce, tomato and Shack sauce.  I had them add pickles and onion for me.  And it is a winner winner chicken dinner!

While this may not be as "high end" as it looks, it gives a very good burger and good veg for it as well.  I really did not taste the Shack sauce, so cannot comment.

Got the fries to go with…they are crinkle cut and done well.  A great burger and fry combination.  Was glad to try this…and look forward to trying the one in Atlanta!
