Just had brunch here earlier today – what a surprise! I wasn't expecting much from this diner, to be honest, but my meal and the superb service were beyond my expectations.
This place is actually decently busy, but not crazy during brunch hours on Sunday. We were seated at a booth immediately. Their menu is ridiculously long and it took me quite a while to figure out what I wanted to eat from their vast menu, ranging from burgers to salads to breakfast foods to dinner foods.
Eventually, I decided to get a Belgian waffle with sausage and after it was put in front of my face, I knew I had made a good decision. The waffle was freshly made and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It came with syrup and butter, of course. The sausage, though it looked a little weird, was actually tasty. It was really crispy on the outside and went well with the maple syrup and waffle. You can also choose ham or bacon instead.
The SO got a brunch special, which came with tea or coffee, OJ or mimosa, fruit salad, and an entree on the list for $14.95.
Satisfying brunch!
This place was 3 star for me from the jump but with the latest service I just got- It's definitely a 1 star.
I don't think I've ever felt a server be so hostile with me– he started off being very playful with our table and somewhere in the middle he became really aggressive saying some offensive remarks.
I will never come back here, do yourself a favor and walk one more avenue up– there are plenty other diners to dine at better than this place.
An OK diner but don't expect high. The service is fast but the servers are on the rude side and leave little time for you to read the big menu. Food is not bad: big portion, filling, yet is sort of bland.
Friday 10:30am; the place is hopping and good morning greetings as we enter. Loads of plates with eggs, blueberry pancakes, potatoes, oh my. Hard to choose what to eat. I had an excellent multigrain waffle, low-fat yogurt, strawberries and blueberries. Wow. Companions had similar breakfast orders. So good. Lots of regulars come here based on the greetings being given all around. I'm glad I returned. Olympic Flame is still a great spot.
Takes me back. Lived and went to school nearby so the Olympic Flame is solid go-to for a quick bite when in the Columbus Circle area. The staff has always been friendly (the waiter kindly helped charge my iPhone bc I was out of juice) and obviously the menu can be overwhelming (what diner menu isn't though, really?) but if you know what you want you're in luck.
Recently went for a quick late bite and the food was quick and hot. I ordered a turkey bacon wrap with french fries and my friend ordered a new mediterranean chicken sandwich with bacon and pesto. We were definitely full…and yet still went for ice cream. Solid food experience.
Just because the Olympic Flame is in the name of this diner doesn't mean they are affiliated with the Olympic Comittee. We came in on a Tuesday since we were hungry. Since we didn't want to walk far solely for the purpose of finding some place to eat, we decided to give this place a try. Here we go.
We came in on a Tuesday afternoon. We were immediately seated in the sun-dining room. Then our waitress came by and gave us their menus and glasses of iced water. After 6 more minutes, she came back to take our orders. After a 10-11 minute wait, our food arrived.
We ordered from their "lunch special" menu. Each item came with French Fries and a choice of either a complimentary soda (no free refills) or soup. Not a bad deal! We chose soda. Our items arrived HOT!!
I ordered the Reuben Sandwich. This consisted of pastrami slices and sauerkraut, topped with melted Swiss cheese, and served on the rye bread. Everything tasted fresh, and the melted cheese was gooey with perfection. I dipped my sandwich into ketchup for some great, extra flavor.
My old man ordered the Philly Cheese Steak. This consisted of a slice of steak with grilled onions, lettuce, tomato & American yellow cheese, served on a hero roll. He enjoyed it. Nothing more to say here.
The French fries appeared to be cooked well, and had a crispy taste. These were great. We ate some, and then took the rest home since we were mostly filled up from our sandwiches. The portions we received were quite generous.
The prices were reasonable, especially based on the fact that our sandwiches came with extras. Additional seating areas (including bar stools at the counter) were available in the diner. Everyone had to pay at the register. Restrooms were in the back, which were OK.
They had cake available for dessert. You could see their flavors on display towards the back of the diner. We didn't order any since we were full. Our waitress was excellent. Overall, a flawless experience. We may come back here again if we're in the area.
This is a solid Greek diner in the vicinity of Lincoln Center. If you are looking for a super-quick, tasty, and surprisingly inexpensive meal pre-show, this is probably your best option. Luckily, Olympic Flame is a good one! There are plenty of good dining options near Lincoln Center, but sometimes you need a meal on the fly after work and before the opera.
I usually come to this diner with my SO for brunch. The service is good, fast and consistent. Also, for a diner in this area, the price point is exceptional!
