Amazing staff and amazing cats! The hour goes by very fast while trying to get these cats to play. Most of them are sleeping but it's still worth all the petting you can do with the sleepy kitties. We also got a glass of wine and okonomiyaki which were both great. The cats are all adoptable and it's great to see that something like this exists so that the cats get exposure for potential new homes.
Koneko was the first cat café I've ever gone to and I definitely recommend it to others! My friend and I came here on a weekday afternoon so it wasn't very busy. It costs $15 per person to hang out with the cats for an hour. A bunch of coffee/tea and light dish options were available for purchase too. The entire place was very clean and I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. One of the staff, Alex, was really great and explained the rules to us (slippers only, don't pick up the cats, etc). I'm a crazy cat lady so I was in heaven as I had the opportunity to pet each of the cute kitties. Plenty of small cat toys were available too for us to use. Overall, I had an awesome time here and other cat cafés will have to compete with Koneko.
This place truly is a gem, I can't wait to come back one day!
To start off, the café has a very casual, relaxed feel to it, the prices are pretty decent (especially considering tax is included in the price) and the staff was wonderful. The decor is very modern and minimalistic.
I originally came in for the cats, for $15 (which may seem steep but you get unlimited time with 14 cute kitties) you get access to two indoor rooms and an outdoor area with cozy chairs and several adorable cats. The cats are all friendly and food and drinks are allowed into the rooms as well. On the bottom floor there is a screen that gives information like the names and ages of each cat. To top it all off, if you bond with a special cat you're able to adopt it if you would like!
Not to mention, this place was also very sanitary, when you enter the cat room you must sanitize your hands and take off your shoes and exchange them for slippers. When you're done, the slippers are placed in a bin presumably to be washed or disposed of.
Now for the food, all I had were there were the gyoza which were absolutely amazing. They weren't overly greasy at all and they were packed with flavor, good presentation was an additional plus.
I can't wait to come back here, not only for the food, but also for the adorable cats and wonderful staff!
This is only for the cats- feeding time is 3, so they close for that time. I got there at 2:30 and they gave me a half-price rate to spend 30 minutes with the cats! Normally it's $30/hr. There are 3 levels with funky seating and cat toys. I saw about a dozen or so cats, who were all so friendly and sociable. What a great afternoon mood-booster. All the cats are up to date with shots and ready for adoption.
What you need to know:
– $15 for an hour of "catnap" = playtime with kitties
– They have 2 floors for you to explore, connected so kitties can come and go
– You can purchase desserts and tea to bring into the cattery's top floor. Just remove the plastic covers when you eat and put them back on when cats approach…
– You must use their hand sanitizers if you want to pet cats
– Make reservations on their website ahead of time
This was my first experience with a cat cafe ever and I'm happy to say it was a good one. The cafe part and the rooms with the cats are separated from each other, however you are allowed to bring your food and drink in with you (just don't feed it to the cats).
While you can make a reservation ahead of time, my friend and I just did a walk in. It was $15 for one hour of time with the cats. We had to take our shoes off and put on some slippers before entering the cat areas. There are three floors of cats, two indoor and one out (called the "catio"). The cats are used to human interaction so they're all very chill for the most part. A couple rules at Koneko are to not pick the cats up, and if they don't feel like being petted to just let them be. Definitely good advice if you have a child with you or somebody not used to being around cats. There are plenty of toys to have the cats play with, so you shouldn't be using your hands as play things for them. Overall I enjoyed my experience with Koneko and would definitely recommend it for those who love cats like myself. Even if you're just okay with cats, I'd say to just try it for the unique experience of it.
Extremely impressed by this cat cafe! I have gone to Meow Parlour multiple times and surprised by how much more this cattery, Koneko, has to offer!
Though, I noticed the prices are steeper here. $15 for 1 hour (per person) for a "cat nap"/play.
First off, when you walk in, there's a Starbucks-like setting, where you can read books, bring your laptop, etc. while enjoying a cup of coffee or tea. They have table seating and also available space at the bar. The mini cafe also serves sake, beer, wine, and also a variety of snacks/appetizers!
The food was beautifully created and tasted delicious; it compliments the Japanese setting and imitates the authentic cuisine very well (though there's no sushi or ramen available). We tried the Japanese pickled vegetables and the tofu dish. They were both very flavorful and tasty. We also had sake which was a nice touch.
The staff are very clean, attentive and informative. After our snack, we checked-in at the iPad by the bar just in time for our reservation (made online prior to our arrival). We were brought to the back and took off our shoes and given white slippers. I hung my jacket and walked in to greet and play with the kitties!
I was very impressed how clean it was and they have two levels (plus a "catio") that has about 12 cats roaming around, playing or taking a cat nap! There's absolutely no cat smell (or litter box smell) and I did not see any fur (since they constantly use lint remover to keep the furniture clean). The cats were very friendly and playful (those who were not taking a nap). There are plenty of toys plus very neat, modern furniture/decor, cat books and even a journal where you can write a message or draw a picture (guestbook for customers)!
They even have creative events when you go on their website, where you can make a reservation for cool activities such as a cat movie screening, Japanese arts and crafts, sake tasting, Japanese tea tasting, "My Cat From Hell" screening and more! Plus, the staff with the cats are very affectionate and talk about the personalities of each cat. They are very helpful if you have questions about your cat(s) at home. No wonder their adoption rate is successful! Very fun place to play and hangout with cats and wonderful people!
We didn't realize this was a cat cafe until we walked in and noticed the cat sanctuary in the back! We were in the area wandering around waiting for Clinton St Baking Co to text us about our table, and decided to grab coffees here while we waited. I love that the cafe is bright and minimally decorated. I can definitely see myself spending hours here hanging out with friends or studying over a latte.
It costs $20 to go into the cat sanctuary, so we mostly spent our time at the big windows watching the cats watch us. However, I would gladly 'donate' the $20 to helping these cats find a furever home! 🙂
