Been a few times since the opening a few weeks ago. The cooks are nice, and work hard from opening until closing; I just wish they brought more supplies so they could stay open longer, because they are really only open during peak hours so there is always a line. But it's definitely worth waiting a few minutes for this large-portion always-fresh fairly-authentic steamed rice steamed vegetables teriyaki chicken, for a mere $6.50 including tax.
I'm actually sad to write this because I typically love these "mall-food-court-type-chicken-teriyaki" dishes, however, this one was just…not good.
We happened on this place after the Yelp Burstday event and seeing as it was a little later in the night, there were not too many places to get some food. It looked good so we (and another couple) got an order each. I didn't ask what they thought, but I found the chicken to be dried or overcooked – like thin chicken that's overcooked. The chicken just wasn't soft or tender. The rice was clumpy and cooked probably with too much water (i'm Asian so rice is important =P).
Overall it was fine to hold me over, but it would not be a stop I consciously decide to go to again.. unless i'm in the neighborhood again at the same time and nothing else is open..
This wasn't a terrible meal, but it definitely smells a lot better walking by on the street than it tastes. I think I was charged $6.25 for my meal when $5.99 (cash only) is advertised on the window. So used to food carts and this is not a food cart. Not a huge deal, just notable. The teriyaki chicken itself was tasty, but nothing special, while the rice and veggies were bland and sauce-less.
I wanted to try something new for lunch and yelped to see what's new. I found this place and decided to give it a try. We went around 11:30am and there were just two people ahead of us. The food came out quickly. I opted for the extra chicken. They have a special that includes extra chicken, extra rice and a soda for $9.99. If you write a Yelp review, you get extra chicken for free, otherwise it is an extra $2. My friend did not get the extra chicken and her plate looked just as full as mine. Hmmmm.
The food was good. It wasn't overtly greasy and the teriyaki was just right…not too salty and not too sweet. The cabbage/veggies could have been cooked longer as it was basically still on the rawish side. Other than that, I can't complain. It came with a lot of food that tasted good. I will be back.
Hey guys and gals!
I've been here 3 times in the last week since I started noticing the long lines.
For literally a hole-in-the-wall, I'm a fan. Mohammed, Guillermo and … oh, I forgot his name already =( but there are 3 of them who run this little joint and they are the sweetest eveeeer.
Here's why they get 4 stars:
1. Super fast service. Really!
2. Easy menu – chicken/white rice/veggies — REG $6.99 or LARGE $9.99 — (I ask for more veggies, no rice. They hook it up and I split this into two smaller meals. Veggies are made up of mainly cabbage, few pieces of carrots, and broccoli or two. I LOVE cabbage so this is great for me. If you hate cabbage, then that sucks for you)
3. Open from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm = perfect for me because these are my feeding hours *nom nom nom*
4. Solid meal and great amazing deal for the moola you'll spend
Bonus: —Dog friendly— Yes! Because it's a take out window, duh! This is so important for me because I use my lunch/dinner time to also walk my dog so killing two birds with one stone is always a winner winner, chicken dinner.
*I'd give them 5 stars if they offered brown rice as an option and provided hot sauce/sriracha sauce/chili garlic sauce*
If you live or work in this area (fidi, wall street, civic center, city hall) you must come by and patronize this place!
Don't let the line deter you away. I came by one day at 12:45 pm and while the line was long, I made it back in time to take a 1pm call! Service is quick and they keep the line moving. Have your order and cash ready and then step aside.
TIPS:
CASH ONLY ($7 OR $10)
If you write a yelp review, you get extra chicken.
