This place is a staple on Northern Blvd. in Bayside for good reason. This place gives you super value and fresh grilled chicken every time. Where else can you feed an entire family with leftovers for less than 40 bucks? Take notice Boston Market.
The grilled chicken is always perfectly moist and seasoned. Mac and cheese was cheesy and yummy. All sides in general were pretty good. I will say portion sizes are enormous here. A half chicken combo feeds 2 grown men easily. The salad with grilled chicken weighs in at over 2 pounds. Never had a bad meal here (but I recommend taking it to go). Thumbs up.
Out of the three or four storefronts that occupy that little area where Chicken Lovers resides, Chicken Lovers seem to be the last one standing after many many years, as all the other storefronts come and go. I think that's an indication of how good and consistently good their food is, even after all these years. Pricing is fair especially for the huge portions of food you get. This place is no frills but all game.
I usually get their lunch specials (~$9-$10 now) – 1/4 chicken or 1/4 ribs which comes with 2 sides and a drink. 1/4 is plenty for me, but you can opt for the 1/2 for a little extra. Delicious and super super filling with leftovers that turn into another meal the next day. Sides are pretty good too. Dinner portions/pricing I still think are pretty good deals for a family meals. Byeeeee Boston market.
Oh. And do yourself a favor and get the green sauce.
One of the best place to get ribs. The chicken here is pretty much only loved due to their green sauce. The ribs are where it's at. The line may look short but don't be fooled, they allow online ordering and chances are, you're going to have to wait 1+ hr if you happen to come during peak times.
Solid place for some grub. Chicken is super tender and the sides are pretty tasty and plentiful. Don't expect much when you walk in as they certainly need a cleaning and make over – just remember that it's all about the food here.
It's not the cheapest but they give you tons of food. The rice was nice and the corn was surprisingly good. I didn't get to try the ribs but heard that they were good. Definitely check it out, food was really good here and the portions are huge. The green sauce is ridicoulus.
My thoughts were so many yelpers cannot be wrong about this place and I was right, they were not wrong. This place was tasty fantastic shut the front door I may never cook chicken again.
When I walked in the place was packed with the tables of people full of food and lip smacking happening.
I ordered the family meal which was a whole chicken chargrilled and three large sides. They also give you this wasabi mayo stuff in your to go back and then the surprise 2 large pieces of grilled pita bread.
The chicken was juicy, hot and delicious. It tasted like you went to a friends house to a barbecue and the friend could actually cook chicken. Lots of crispy skin if that's your thing. The chicken in packed fully chopped into all the regular pieces so you do not have to go all ninja warrior when you get home. Its easy to dish out the portions of chicken and the pieces are nice and large. This is no small chicken.
The sides I choose tonight were the Mac n Cheese, Green Beans and Corn.
Mac n Cheese – Nice and cheesy, macaroni very well done but not mushy. This side was a definite reorder when I come back here again. Did it have a crispy crusty top of cheese, no, but it was creamy and good and I did not miss the crispy crust which I want on high end Mac n Cheese at a restaurant.
String Green Beans – These were really well seasoned and there were a few red peppers floating here and there in the broth. I did get the end of the evening batch so the beans were extra limp, but I am from the south and we like our string beans cooked for hours with ham, so the extra cooking was a plus for me. If you do not like overly cooked beans you might not like the beans, but they were very good and a definite reorder possibility for my next visit.
Corn – Its corn and most would say it was just niblet corn, but this corn was super sweet, maybe they cook it with some sugar (like southerners who want the corn a bit sweeter), anyway, the corn was good and it was G approved. I usually get the corn for him since its it one of his favorites.
The other sides which were available tonight were sweet potatoes and baked potato pieces with what looked like rosemary seasoning on them.
The place was so busy that there was a line of cars waiting to get into the very small parking lot. The take out business here is off the charts and the delivery guy was in and out while I was there.
This place was a home run for tasty food. If you are looking for ambiance this is not the place but if you want some good home cooking then definitely stop by, and just pay no attention to the stacks of stuff they have in the vestibule area. I think this place just does not have room for all the stuff and the front vestibule is considered a storage area. Who cares, the food is good.
I will try the ribs next time and as long as they are as good as the chicken, then this place will score a 5, but for now I am giving it a 4. Its awesome!
Sorry no pictures, we just dug in to the food too quick and the aftermath was not pretty. G does have plenty of leftovers for tomorrow night.
Came here with friends for a second lunch…lol so this is what happened. This place gets such a large volume of orders that it takes them about 30 mins to prepare your order. So instead of just sitting around and waiting for our food, my group of four, all being foodies, decided to place our orders first and go elsewhere for food while they prepared our food. After our first lunch, we came back and our orders were all waiting for us at the counter! #smart
This place basically only has two main choices: chicken and ribs. They have various combinations of chicken+ribs at different prices. What I discovered is that some combos are more worth it than others so definitely do the math before placing your order! For example, the 1/4 chicken + 1/4 ribs and two sides combo may seem appealing but it is actually more cost efficient to get 1/2 chicken and two sides and 1/2 ribs and two sides and share it amongst the group.
As for the food itself, I had really low expectations for the chicken but it ended up being really tasty! I thought it was going to be really dry, as most rotisserie chickens are, but this one ended up being so juicy! The spices were on point also. Mix in some green sauce and you've got yourself one pretty amazing chicken 🙂 This place may be called Chicken Lovers and while the chicken was good, the ribs were even more amazing! The meat was literally falling off the bone and the bbq sauce that they used was so tasty! The sides were added to complete the meal but I found them to be very mediocre. The Mac and cheese tasted standard but the mashed potatoes were way too salty…The pita bread soaked up all the juices from the chicken, ribs and green sauce YUM!
After doing the math and strategically placing our orders, everyone in our group of four was able to try both meats and almost all of the sides and we ended up paying $10 each, which is cheap for such a delicious and filling meal. If I were to come back, I will definitely get the ribs because they were just too good! This place is definitely a must-try in Bayside!
The chicken and ribs are amazingly moist and flavorful. Their prices are cheap and portions are huge. I shared a 1/4 combo (ribs and chicken) with my wife with 2 sides (fries and mac n cheese) and we couldn't finish it. It came out to about 16 dollars.
The lady at the cashier was super nice but I saw my order ready and she was busy just texting on her cell phone. I noticed she seemed a little confused on whose orders were ready too. The chef also seems really bored but I don't blame him, considering he grills the same thing all day everyday. Food is still bangin though.
Chicken Lovers is one of my main local spots for hearty comfort food. I've felt satisfied, albeit a bit groggy, during the two times I've come here.
The white meat / chicken was dry this time, although I enjoyed it more during my first visit here. The moist, savory ribs made up for that, though, and so did the corn and mashed potatoes.
The portions are generous, and the sides that are offered here are classic: mac n' cheese, potatoes, corn, and mashed potatoes. You can choose between dark and white meat chicken, and I usually go with the white meat (which is my personal preference).
The service was poorer this time than during my first visit. After walking into the eatery and ordering my food, I waited more than 10 minutes to get it, but that's probably because many other people walked into the eatery to pick up their food shortly after I ordered mine– they most likely called Chicken Lovers to pick up their food in person, and the business got bombarded by tons of orders. I think the wait would've been much shorter, if the owner of this place was working today.
Chicken Lovers isn't the fanciest place to eat in, but I haven't really minded that because I wouldn't want to sit in a super swanky spot anyways while stuffing my face happily with chicken, ribs, and potatoes! 🙂
