  1. Loved the airy and hip atmosphere. Enjoyed the chicken pad thai. I appreciated the large portion and it was amazing. Service was friendly, fast and efficient.

  2. Roommate and I came here on a weeknight for a quick bite to eat. We had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated and were put on a table with 2 other people. Plenty of other tables open in the back, so this was clearly a way to minimize the number of tables the staff had to take care of / clean. Wouldn't have bothered me if the people sitting next to us weren't so obnoxiously loud.

Food came pretty quickly, which was nice. The two of us split the spicy coconut chicken noodles- large portions here!

  3. The food here used to be really good. The service never really was. The last two times I've been here the waiters have been rude, it's been hard to get things other than my initial order and the food dropped off, and the food has been meh.

I mean really meh. Like last time I didn't eat it meh.

  4. The Quick: Solid 3.5 noodle joint, but rounding up as my server switched noodles for a carb/gluten free option at no additional cost. Long communal tables, great happy hour special, and fun casual vibe. NYU hang out.

The Details: I was embarrassed to ask my waiter to make my delicious curry noodle soup without noodles (saving calories!) With a smile, he suggested using bean sprouts instead, at no additional cost. My spicy coconut soup was delicious without the guilt. Plus their happy hour is served at the tables, not just at the bar, which is a huge plus. Lychee martini anyone?!

The Damage: Drink and entree ~ $20 before tip.

  5. For a Saturday night, we didn't even have to wait – kinda surprising to be right at Union Square.  Too bad I was too hungry to take it as a possible sign.  When you walk in the hostess is actually in the MIDDLE of the restaurant.  It's the weirdest thing.  It's a really nice place though.  It has long "park bench-like" tables that you sit at, and holders in the bottom center of the table that you can keep your purses and jacket on.  I'm sure they specifically made that because you are sitting directly beside random strangers.  That's the annoying part.  No privacy here!  I don't suggest this place for a first date, ever.

If you can't walk down stairs, don't come here – the bathrooms are down a flight of stairs I almost fell down.  And only two stall options for that huge place.

The food was good, I'll admit that.  Decent portion that I wasn't able to finish. And everyone was on-point with service.  I don't know if you take the check to the cashier in the middle of the restaurant, but we did – because that's what we had assumed.  So, that was kinda awkward.  I don't have an answer for that.

  6. Republic is an attempt at good Asian cuisine in nice decor. They succeeded in one of their missions : nice decor.

The food is very lack luster, I would rather go to PF Changs than Republic. The flavors are just not quite right although the dish appears to look tasty. I will have to give them credit for their Thai ice tea.

The decor is clean and crisp. Great for entertaining your out of town friends. Personally, I would take my friends to other Asian restaurants if I want to impress them. This is a good location for a more formal meeting where you are trying to impress with atmosphere more than food.

  7. The food is always delicious at Republic! My daughter took me there my first time and I have enjoyed it ever since….

Republic serves some of the best Chicken Pad Thai (Spice is probably one of my favorite places ever) as well as other great selections of noodle dishes. I usually order Chicken with Brown Rice and Vegetables although during our recent outing this week, I had Chicken with Glass Noodles and it was good!

Some of the best drinks that are served at Republic are the Pineapple Coconut Cooler (non-alcoholic) beverage and Red Frozen Sangria (alcoholic beverage) and Asian Sangria (alcoholic beverage).

The tables and seating arrangements are structured cafeteria style (in my opinion) which is fine. However, I like to eat in the bar area since the huge screen television is there and I like to watch the soccer, boxing, tennis and basketball games!

The music played is great and I find myself bopping my head and saying to the music as I eat…

Republic has great food, drinks and ambiance!

  8. Questionable food that is being passed off as Asian Fusion/Vietnamese . As expected, when I hear Asian Fusion, I usually start walking in the opposite directions. But since someone vouched for the restaurant, I decided to give it a try. I ordered the pad thai w/ chicken.

The food was plentiful, but the flavor and taste were off. This doesn't remind me of pad thai. It was edible so i ate it, but I wouldn't order again. The staff was friendly and nice. Spacious decor. It's important to note that this place closes at 10:30Pm which I thought was very early for Manhattan and Union Square on a Friday.
