  1. OK sushi, nice newly renovated location, poor customer service.

  2. I grew up on New Hawaii Sea and when my family moved to Phoenix, AZ I missed the taste of the crisp tempura, the authentic Chinese food, the seafood and most of all the sushi. When I came back to visit with my brother this New Year I heard about the unfortunate situation and I was quite saddened, but we had already spent the time to get there so we decided to walk in and give Kai Sushi a try. When we walked in we were greeted and seated right away. The decor seems to have changed into a more modern style and the ambiance gave off a comforting yet sleek vibe. The waitors came by quickly to get us something to drink. I ordered hot tea and I noticed they refilled my pot with attentiveness throughout the dining experience.

I ordered both the green and red dragon rolls with edamame and my brother ordered something that looked pretty amazing and tasted really good too, (I need to ask him what he got) The eel was finely cooked and the mixture of the flavors between the fresh avocado the rest of the roll was indescribably delicious. During the meal the manager, Kelly, came and chatted with us. She was quite nice and told us about the yelp deal. Kai sushi seems to me to be well managed and friendly in all aspects. The decor, service and most importantly food were all impeccable. I will return again if I visit New York again.
Now they have a new thai menu which is awesome. i tried the green curry with green peppers and green beans and chicken. It was delightful and not too strongly flavored like other places. Adding the new thai menu has definitely classified this restaurant as an "Asian" fusion.

  3. This was my first visit, and I really wanted this to be my Japanese spot in the Bronx, unfortunately that's not the case. Approximately $50 with tip for the following: Rock shrimp appetizer, shrimp tempura roll, eel avocado roll, crunchy salmon roll, fried ice cream, and creme brulee. The rolls were okay at best, and the rock shrimp was pretty good but nothing stood out as particularly flavorful. The creme brulee was awful! It tasted like vanilla pudding that was burnt on top. Its a big place. The service and atmosphere were fine, but the food just wasn't worth it. Happy Yelping!

  4. I've been to Kai Sushi quite a few times and I've also made countless orders to my apartment. This is my absolute favorite sushi spot. Kai is consistent; you can count on the size, flavor, and quality of their rolls to be the same every time you order. The same can't necessarily be said for other sushi places in the area. Their two- and three-roll specials are a great deal and you really can't go wrong with any of their rolls. As far as speciality rolls go, I've only had their Kai Roll, and it was absolutely delicious. I tend to like my sushi simple, so I usually go for their spicy crunchy tuna or salmon, eel avocado, or sweet potato tempura rolls. Their shrimp tempura is also great. For apps, my husband and I love the spicy rock shrimp or scallion pancakes. If you aren't looking to eat sushi, I definitely recommend their teriyaki salmon or shrimp. They also have great drinks.

I've never had bad service at this restaurant and the atmosphere is clean and warm. I'm always particularly impressed by the beautiful mosaic tiles that adorn their walls. Their bathroom is immaculate and also well designed. There's clearly a lot of pride taken in this restaurant and it shows not only in the decor, but also in their delicious food.

  5. Craving some sushi recently and refusing to travel down into Manhattan I settled on the highest ranked place with a sushi search nearby.

Décor: Nice. Chinese family style décor.
    Service good
Sushi Rolls: I would say average sushi with a little premium on price.

Overall If you have low expectations on what sushi is supposed to be like then you might like this place. I only tried the rolls, overall fish was ok some a little mushy and my rice broke apart a little too easily.

I would probably only come back if I was really craving but not before I try other sushi places in the area.

  6. Popped in for take-out after getting my car washed. I ordered a few sushi rolls, which consisted of spicy tuna, dragon roll and an eel avocado speciality roll. The food was ok, it wasn't anything special or unlike any of the other sushi restaurants in the area, but my service experience was better.

I was parked directly in front of the restaurant and noticed the meter maid rolling up and was about to give me a ticket, so I ran out of the restaurant, spoke to the meter guy, avoided a ticket and then just sat in my car to wait for my order.  I didn't ask her to, but the hostess was nice enough to provide curb-side service and bring my order to my car…I thought that was pretty cool because she certainly didn't have to, so plus 5 for the extra service.

As for the food, I'm not giving up on them yet.  Instead of sushi, I'll just have to try one of their other entrees instead.
