  1. I like The Columbus because nothing is more New York than a kosher Deli. Now I dont really know if Columbus is a Kosher Deli but I can get Pastrami on Rye and a Knish with a Cream Soda so that makes it Kosher enough for me.
I love their Pastrami, enough lean and fat, very flavorful and not overstuffed like say Carnegie or overpriced like say Katzs. The rye bread is wonderfully soft and they put the right amount of Mustard. The Knish was also good a very plump and potato stuffed specimen which the nice counter girl split and filled with Mustard for me. The only drawback was it was probably sitting on the grill too long as the bottom was a little burnt. They gave me 2 pickle spears one sour and one half sour and I do love my pickles.
Columbus has been in that spot for many years and I hope they will be there many more.

  2. This place gets my A-OK for shear proximity to my dwelling. My parents were helping me move into my new place and I needed somewhere to take them for some eggs-n-bacon. Enter the Columbus Deli.

It pleased my father, who found it Seinfeld-coffee-shop-like and who was needing some coffee. It pleased my mom, who ordered a breakfast sammich. All the breakfasts come with coffee and a teeny-tiny shot of juice and are your basic eggs, meat, bread, potatoes…what have you. Basically breakfast here is like eating at a Dennys or Bickfords without it being a chain.

So let's face it, the Columbus Deli is 9 times out of 10 nothing special, but I'll patronize it just to keep someplace in my neighborhood open. That 10th time you can sit next to some loud old guy who has probably lived in this four-block radius his whole life and listen to him rattle off names of neighbors to his wife in a heavy Italian-American accent.

And that's the kind of local flavor that makes it all worthwhile.

  3. The best Eggs & Deli Meats in BensonHurst. Would be 5 stars if they took Credit Cards and were Open Late.  Service is always excellent and they treat you as a regular pretty quickly once you've been there a few times. Love Love Love it
