Came here with a few friends for a long overdue get together and it was a good choice. Cubanu is a great place with very good and very authentic cuban style food. Very dim and cozy place with a warm feel. Great for a local date spot. Drinks are good especially the mojitos and they also have three different types of sangria that are on point. Appetizers where a very good portion enough for two. Main courses are very large in portion and very good. They have alot to choose from on the menu steak to seafood and everything is served with rice cuban traditional. Desert menu had some very nice choices. I tried the flan and was very pleased. Wish I had room to try one of each deserts on the menu, but I definitely will be back so I can try something else on my return visit.
Maybe it's not the restaurant that I am blasé about but maybe it's Cuban/Latin food in general. Except for the occasional great Cuban Sandwich, I always seem to find fault with this genre of eatery.
Once again, I felt my main course was just so-so. This meal was the roasted suckling pig and to me it was very dry and without much flavor. My wife said she enjoyed her Mariscada dish and I did get to taste Mindy's steak and it was pretty tasty but nothing too special.
The service was very good…attentive and helpful. The white Sangria was Ok. The Chocolate Lava Cake for dessert was tasty. I keep expecting Latin Heat and instead find that it always lacks fire. Not just here, but in many other places I have tried too.
Went in here for dinner last night and had a lovely dinner. The restaurant is small and comfy, the staff very friendly and attentive without being on top of you. I had a hard time picking what I was going to have. There were so many great looking menu choices but I went with a chicken option. The chicken was tasty, the sauce delicious and the grilled avocado on the side perfect. I would have had a dessert if I wasn't so very full already from the dinner! I would highly recommend stopping in if you're in town.
I was in the mood for Cuban food one night, and my husband and I decided on Cubanu. We ordered take out since we were tired from our morning errands and we weren't really dressed for that type of dining. We ate here a couple years back for my birthday. So this time around I decided to leave a review.
I really like their empanadas, dough is great and crunchy but unfortunately for that price I only get 2 which makes me a little sad, at least 1 more would have been great. I could have sworn they use to serve 3 empanadas. Bring it back! The sauce that it came with went well together.
My husband ordered the ropa vieja and he loved it. The meat was tender and the sauce was great. The rice was a great and went well with the meat. He also order a side of platano maduro and it was so good. The tostones was a bit hard, salty and dry so we didn't really eat it.
I ordered the Cuban cubanu sandwich. And I was a very happy camper. Upon opening the box, there was 2 wrapped sandwiches. Oh happy day! I didn't expect how big the sandwich was. The sandwich taste so goooooood. I loved it. I have many Cuban sandwiches before and this one will be on my list.
I will come back again and try the other dishes, they sound great. Maybe we'll try to dine in on night.
This was the place to be last night.
The Dj was making it hard to sit or stand without dancing. The music was really good.
We had coconut mojitos I was amazing, not too strong and not too weak. I enjoyed it very much.
Bar was packed. Back seating by the Dj was full as well. Most of you know, it's No fun going to an empty place.
We stayed enjoyed the energy and music. I would like to come back when I'm in the area again.
I've been here a few times and really like this place. I've only sat at the bar, so I can't say how the table service is. The bartenders are always friendly and attentive, and the food has been really good.
We most recently came for half price Tuesday. The spinach and goat cheese empanadas were great. I ordered a chicken dish and M ordered a fish dish, and both were fantastic. Good portion and great flavor.
Cubanu's mixed drinks are pretty good, but like many places, served in a skinny glass with lots of ice, so you're not getting much. I enjoyed a cucumber aloe drink and a pink lemonade type drink.
We usually come early enough in the night (usually around happy hour time) where it's a laid back atmosphere, but once we were here later as it was transitioning to a club/lounge atmosphere. A DJ was spinning some good tunes, people were gathering on the dance floor, and it was upbeat and fun.
Top dishes are:
Appetizers–Coconut shrump; empanadas; picadillio; wings; plantain chips. Skip garlic shrimp. Fish tacos used to be excellent, but last time were poor.
Entrees–Skirt steak; tiger shrimp; pollo picante; paella; tilapia over salad.
Sides–spinach; maduros; congri; salad–and they are very willing to let you switch sides from the menu.
Good house wine and beers on tap.
Excellent service.
Excellent value for the money–especiallyt on Tuesday night when almost everything is half price..
Some outdoor tables recently added.
Can in for lunch with a business associate.
Ordered the empanadas and fish tacos. The empanadas were quite good, with homemade dough and lightly fried. I liked both the beef and the spinach and goat cheese. The spinach was tender and garlicky and the beef had a hint of spice. They also came with a tasty aioli.
The tacos came in small, round, crispy shells topped with corn salsa, avocado and a citrus dressing. The fish was light, tender and not over seasoned.
My colleague had the ropa vieja and reported that it was excellent.
Would like to return for dinner or more tapas. Recommended.
