I had the Jerk Chicken Gyro and a Ginger Tea. This was the best part of Jury Duty. The Jerk Chicken Gyro was just spicy enough, it wasn't overpowering spicy but it just enough to give it a good flavor.
Vendy Award Finalist – I had to try. Fauzia's kids are worth mentioning as seeing them pitch in and graciously help the long line of hungry customer's on a summer weekend, those are some great kids!
But on to the food. I visited their cart on Governor's Island and compared to the other vendors, Fauzia had the best value menu. For a large entree with two sides, the price is $10 + tax and the portion size was enough for 2. We asked the daughter for the jerk chicken and to select the sides and sauces for us. She was excited to prep our platter of jerk chicken over rice and mixed vegetables. The chicken was tender and seasoned really well. I wish the platter came with more! I would guess there was about 10oz of chicken to the entree but there was plenty of rice and veggies. I also got her famous spiced carrot cake for $3.50 a slice. It was moist and the frosting was sugary sweet – the perfect way to end our meal.
Fauzia is practically a godsend when I think about the quality food options in my work neighborhood. She makes really delicious West Indian stews, curries, jerk chicken, and even vegetarian options. And she always have a great selection of yummy vegetable sides. Occasionally she'll have roti or falafels as well. My favorites are her grilled lamb, curry chicken, yams and lentils and of course, her banana pudding.
Go before 1pm to avoid the lines.

This food stand is always crowded at the 1pm lunch break. I got out early so I tried this Caribbean food truck. I had a jerk chicken gyro which was an odd combo but everything was delicious. The chicken had plenty of flavor. The pita, lettuce, tomato, and sauce made for an easy $5 Meal.
