  1. What I really like about a good steakhouse is the fact that food and service is expected to be excellent, no matter where you go. I was skeptical considering Morton's is a chain but they turned out to be a good example of fine dining done right. We had a very pleasant night.

Our waiter was professional and attentive.

Overall, the steak was high quality. My filet mignon was cooked medium just like I asked. My brother got the Chicago style prime bone-in ribeye with cajun seasoning. He was less impressed and a little annoyed with the seasoning of the steak. Honestly, it was wayyy over seasoned. I saw him scraping the seasoning off with his knife. Regardless, still a good cut of meat.

    – The onion bread that you start with is huge, warm, fluffy, and oniony. Very oniony.
    – Tomato and mozzarella salad – probably the freshest garden tomatoes I've ever had at a restaurant. So good.
    – The onion soup was okay. This is not french onion soup though. I wish it was.
    – Now I really have a thing for the side vegetables when eating steak. I enjoyed the mashed potatoes, green beans, and creamed spinach just as much as the steak. So good.
    – Yes, steakhouses specialize in steak, BUT from what I hear they also make the best seafood. Those at the table eating shrimp and lobster really enjoyed their meals.

Do not skip dessert. I repeat, Do. Not. Skip. Dessert. The hot chocolate cake was to die for. The key lime pie as well. I didn't like key lime pie before but now I do. The apple pie…ohmygod. I wasn't a fan of the souffle though. It was wayyy too eggy (and I love eggs). Try the 3 desserts I just mentioned, not the souffle.

We were celebrating a birthday and they customized the menu to say "Happy 50th Birthday JP" …it's the little things.

Maybe I gained 10 pounds after this meal but that's okay. Do it.

  2. I recently dined there with a group for Long Island Restaurant Week, so my review is based upon that menu. What I can say, is that Morton's deserves a lot more praise than it gets.

While most restaurants look at restaurant week as an afterthought, Morton's put their heart and soul into it, and it the result was great.

The fresh loaf of bread is a nice touch, and few restaurants do that anymore. It was sourdough I think and really good. For my dinner I had the filet mignon with bernaise sauce which was tender, juicy and flavorful. I also wanted to give compliments to our waitress who was helpful, friendly and just did a great job. I couldn't ask for a better, more attentive server.

The decor is typical steakhouse, albeit toned down to appear to a wider audience.

Overall, I would definitely return to Morton's anytime for a nice steak, in a comfortable environment.

  3. So there was this one time I cheated on the Palm and it was at this place. This was the worst dinning experience I have had at a steak house period the end. I ordered a porter house steak medium rare and when it got to the table part of the steak was rare part of the steak was medium and then the last part of the steak was well done. I'm still not sure how that happens. I cook steaks and they come out perfect. I was very very upset but it is what it is. The Shrimp app. Was very good and that is what saved some part of the evening. Now it was bad enough that the steak was horrible but the valet was even worse. At that time I had a Lexus ES330. It's Great Neck so all the keys are BMW, Mercedes, Lexus etc. the keys all look the same only they could not find mine. I was confused as to what the problem was as I had the right ticket. After literally waiting 10 min there was a screech of tires from around the corner and it was my car. I guess they thought it would be OK to take my car on there coffee run but it was unacceptable and I let them know that.

All said and done don't even think about wasting your money here. Go down the street and treat yourself to a great steak at Peter Lugers.

  4. The food was exquisite the ambience is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. This is the perfect place for a business meeting as it is not too loud and you can actually share ideas back-and-forth. The price tag is high but you get what you pay for.

  5. When you make reservations in advance and advise the restaurant you have a party of six with two that have birthdays, you really have high hopes that the restaurant will get it right. I mean we are going to be dropping a fair amount of cash as this place, oh good gosh what a mess it was. It was a mess upon messy mcmessy.

First the good. We were seated promptly and we had a fabulous waitress. (I will edit the review later when I find the check to let everyone know her name). The bread was hot, crusty and delicious. I am told the wine was good, I am passing along that info as I did not try the wine.

I ordered a salad with pears, walnuts and gorgonzola cheese. Really awful. There were 3 tiny pieces of cheese at the bottom of the salad and no dressing on the salad. Ok, I will not complain as I am sure the steaks will be great. Wrong. I should have took the hint from the salad that the next events were not going to be good.

Wait, a little more good, the sides:

Horseradish mashed potatos – you have a stuffy nose, these things will clear that nose right up, but they were so good.

Macaroni and Cheese – Crispy top, bits of bacon, very cheese, very good

Cream Spinach – Tasty, fresh with bits of garlic.

Onion Rings – Crispy, light in texture and easy to bite without the whole onion coming out, perfect.

Now the bad, the star of the meal, the steaks!

Everyone ordered the filet mignon in varying degrees of doneness and when I tell you they all came out in varying degrees of doneness not matching everyones order, it was a total mess.
It was not even one of those messes where you go…oh I got your steak you got my steak, lets switch…no problems. The guys seem to have the best luck with the exception of G's son who said he ate his but it was not cooked right but did not want to complain. I think with all the women at the table getting badly cooked meals, he was being quiet. My steak was raw inside, my daughters was raw, and the other lady of the group had a burnt steak. At this point the waitress was horrified at the mess up and was back at the kitchen giving the chef the evil eye from hell. She was so apologetic to us, totally not her fault at all. Now the manager was called and he wanted to put 2 raw steaks back on the grill and cook them and take the over cooked, burnt steak back for a new steak. Mean while the guys are digging in. Hello, we don't want to be eating alone, we all want to eat together. And personally, I dont like a steak back on the grill after its come off and sat for a few minutes. There is no way that doing the re-cook thing to a steak does not screw up the taste. I declined the offer and said I just dont want the steak. OMG you would have thought I had done the unmentionable. I dont want anything else, I'm done. They started bringing extra sides to make up for all of the screw up, but I was really done with my meal. No amount of potatos would fix this problem.

My daughter said she would have her steak heated back up and the burnt steak was returned for another badly cooked steak. So needless to say the ladies were all messed up steak wise.  We had pre-ordered the desserts so it was just wait for the guys to finish and get dessert and be done with this mess.

Hot chocolate cakes with a candle for the B'day boys and I had the apple crisp.  At the end of the meal the manager apologized for the issues, and said he had taken my steak, the bottle of wine and the 2 birthday desserts off of the bill. Whoop Tee Doo!

I will post the bill when I locate it but when you still walk out paying over $500 (including tip) you really have higher expectations than what we experienced.

Steaks – 0 Stars – The chef needs to be fired or the restaurant needs to buy him a meat thermometer
Sides – 4 Stars – who ever made the sides did a great job, probably not the same person who was cooking steaks.
Waitress – 5 Stars – she was fabulous, and horrified at what we were experiencing. She also was able to find common ground with us at the beginning of the meal so we really thought she was excellent in the realm of customer service. She totally deserved her tip.
Management – 0 stars – This was a birthday meal/Christmas meal for a family and you should have cleared the whole check. Shame on you.

So all in all, I will stretch this thing and give it a 2 star review and never return to try this place ever again.

  6. I'm not a fan of chain steak places but Morton's does a good job.  We came here for a baby shower  (which my wife planned) and we got to sample a fair variety of their offerings from their catering menu.

The filet mignon was soft like butter and cooked exactly how I wanted.  The crab cake was mostly lump meat, no filler.  Sides were good, especially the potatoes gratin.  The service here (for an event anyway) was great.  None of the guests were without drinks and the kitchen accommodated requests that weren't on the menu without a peep.  The staff there is great and they'll help you with anything you need.  Definitely going back to eat their regular menu but I highly recommend them for events.

  7. I really do like This steakhouse. The food is good and consistent and the table spacing is great. The restaurant is nicely decorated and fits the special occasion mood perfectly. This is definitely a place to check out if the wait at Lugers down the street is too long or you want to be able to stretch out with a large party.

  8. Came here during Long Island RW (Restaurant Week).

    BF wanted to impress me.
    BF made reservations for dinner
BF Took me to a Steakhouse
BF Told me to order RW Menu
BF Told me to Get the Steak (Center Cut Filet 6oz), medium Rare with Mashed Potatoes
    BF Ordered the Stuffed Shrimp

Food Arrived after 15 min.  While we were eating their Home Made soft Bread (It's HUGE!) and Caesar Salad.

BF Ate his 6 Stuffed Shrimp.  each were all Stuffed with Crab Meat.  Delish!
I had my Steak, Perfectly cooked (Red inside no blood) and OMG, it was soo buttery good.  Thought I was going to get the Cheap Steak because of RW but I was surprised the quality of meat they offered.

Of course, Dessert was part of the meal, I ordered a cup of triple Chocolate Mouse , and the BF had the regular Cheesecake.

The Restaurant itself is very upscale, dimmed lights, romantic and somewhat super potential business people happening here.

Definitely will come back again even tho is not during specials.
