  1. OH MY GOODNESS. There are not enough words to explain how amazing the mushroom burger here is. I would usually avoid having a veggie burger but a lot of my friends told me that I had to try the mushroom burger, and they were right. I also had a regular burger as well.

WHY is the food so good you ask? My theory is:

    1. It is a gourmet burger! It seems to be better quality than a typical burger. Even though it is "fast food," it tastes amazing and not rushed at all.
    2. Their sauce- I am not sure what is in it, but it is delicious!
    3. They serve beer and wine.

  2. I've been here several times (and other locations) so I'm surprised I never wrote a review. It's good but not the greatest nor worth the long lines. Beef is cooked well and the lettuce and bun are always fresh and they put a good amount of the shack sauce to not overwhelm the burger.

I absolutely hate their fries. I don't get why Shake Shack's frozen fries are a thing. They tried going the fresh cut route but apparently people prefer the frozen so they went back. It tastes  what I imagine cardboard to be like – dry with no flavor. Recently I had a concrete for the first time – Stumptown coffee flavor and it was good – not what I expected. i thought it would be harder ("concrete") but it was more like soft serve and melted quickly.

Lovely setting and atmosphere in the park with friendly staff.

  3. NOTE: Review is only for the custard of the week (caramelized peach). Burgers are worth 3.5 in my opinion.

The pros of going to Shake Shack on a summer night: none unless you're not ordering actual food.

    The cons: everything else.

The nostalgia of making Shake Shack runs in the snow during college couldn't make up for how miserable it is lining up in sweaty summer weather with hundreds of grumpy people (largely tourists and other misinformed individuals). I was in the area so I decided to go on a whim for old times' sake, but I should have turned around when I saw the mob there. "Luckily" for me, I had already eaten, so I was only in the mood for a shake. The C-Line was a bit shorter than the normal line, so eventually I put in my order for this week's special flavor: caramelized peach. They're churning these things out constantly, so I was expecting to grab my shake and get far away.

Lol me. For whatever reason, they let a dozen shakes pile up on the counter before sorting out orders. A few other people stood waiting with me for just a shake; why can't they be a little more organized with giving them out?

As it turned out, maybe it would have been better to just walk out without the shake and my $6. The caramelized peach was extremely disappointing: cloyingly sweet with a half-assed attempt at recreating the burnt flavor that makes the real thing so beautiful. I was hoping for some peach bits to lend some gravity to this mess, but nah, the shake was one-note in texture as well as in taste. Hard pass.

Tl;dr: Avoid Shake Shack in the summer. You can get better burgers/fries/shakes/frozen goodies elsewhere in the city without going home in soggy pants.

  4. LOVE Shake Shack!! I mean, who doesn't? It's affordable and satisfying. I'm obsessed with the double stack and those cheese fries.

I also ordered a hot dog and a vanilla shake. Both were good but I'm totally fine not ordering them again. The shake was a bit too sweet for my throat.

Just keep in mind you DO have to sit outside, the lines can be long on a warm sunny day, so my best advice is to go out at night. I went 30 mins before closing time and got my food faster than you can say Shake Shack 🙂

  5. Damn Shake Shack is consistent:

    1. Great customer service
    2. Great burgers
    3. Great….well good fries
    4. Damn good shakes

No wonder I've seen so many locations pop up. Business is doing well. 9 times out of 10, there will be a lengthy line that snakes around. I passed here many a times not even realizing it was an outdoor Shake Shack. I like that they have a flavor of the week that changes on a…*gasp*….weekly basis lol.

Yep, it's good ole comfort food that will make you want to go to sleep afterwards.

  6. Very convenient location in Madison Sq Park, and it's so awesome that there are abundant seating options.  This place gets PACKED, especially at the lunch hour, so be sure to plan accordingly.  Service is great from the people that help facilitate the line, to those that take your order, to those giving you your food.  Everyone is always nice and helpful.

The food is really mediocre though.  Honestly, the whole hype is a little silly to me.  I think the first time I ever ate there, I was like, "Hmm, this is pretty good."  However, as I keep eating there (out of convenience or if someone else wants to go), and ordering other things, I'm less impressed each time.  I feel that no matter which burger I get, the patty is always super dried out.  The shakes are also pretty disappointing.  Filling, yes.  Flavor, lacking.  The fries, I do love.  They're nice and crispy with a good amount of potato in them.  If you get the cheesy ones, they also douse it with cheesy sauce (they certainly don't skimp out).

  7. The original! On my first visit to NYC, this was the only location. The line was up and down this park. They even had a live camera so you can see how long the line was at home before you came. Times have changed! There are so many locations all over NYC now.

This location is an actual shack. They have patio tables and chairs. Line moves at a decent pace. Food comes out pretty fast.

Warning, be careful of the pigeons, they have NYC attitude and attack your food! A pigeon flew and took a chomp out of my burger the first time I came.

Shack Stack – $9.59 – TINY AF! But the best burger they have on their menu. The shroom patty adds a gooey cheesy burst with mushrooms.

I do not think they compare to In n Out, overpriced and WAY smaller but the burgers are still pretty good.

  8. Food: 4.0/5.0
    Service: 3.5/5.0
    Value: 2.5/5.0
    Decor: 3.0/5.0
    Overall: 4.5/5.0

Oh Shake Shack, only a place like New York would create a chain such as yourself…with your delicious foodstuffs (both grilled and frozen) but lines that can get out of control and a price point that engenders fears of another Occupy movement.  Great to be able to chow down right in the middle of Madison Square Park.  Too different and pricey versus **-n-*** to be a fair comparison, but yes, SHAK has the edge.
